Why can't I find any cobra MKIV ships- I have Horizons

I've been to about 20 different ports, all of which I've seen using eddb and inara saying the ship is there, one even said like 20 minutes ago when I went there. yet when I get there none are available...IN every port it's the same thing. Also went to Ray Gateway and they don't have any either. Am I doing something wrong or what is the story? I'm hoping there may be few other locations in the Li Yong Rui system I can try, but it seems kind of strange I haven't been able to locate one. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Ok, I see it's a special ship

Crap. I bought Horizons, but I guess I did not buy it when the cobra mkIV was part of the purchase. I was going to outfit a good ship for exploring and the cobra mkIV had plenty of slots for extra stuff to take along. As a side note can you have more than one of a ship?

LOL That's funny, fashionable. NOT There was never a need for so many book marks.

Obviously there was, or it wouldn't have been so fashionable.

More to OP's point, they can have as many of one type of ship as they can buy, for whatever the hell purpose they want. IDT there's a max fleet limit, just a limit per station for parking them, for which I don't recall the max number.

IIRC the MkIV was a perk of being a kickstarter backer. The irony is everyone (well most) think/thought it was a hunk of junk. I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I bought Horizons and I still want one. Not gunna happen. Went through the five stages of grief a few times.

No it was a Horizons pre-order bonus thing. It did feel disappointing (compared to the Mk III), but can be engineered into something half-decent.

...May I ask if you use it at all now, after all the changes since then?
I have one and use it occasionally, it's not my favourite ship though! - it makes a good mining ship with the new (3.3) changes (if you like mining of course!)

edit:to drift even further OT - the Mk IV is one of the few (only?) small ships with sufficient internals & hardpoints to be able to handle all the new mining gear. Maybe a bit of an oversight by FD there ... ??

Unfortunately, if you did not purchase Horizons before:

- 5th February 2016 on PC
- 30th July 2016 on XBox

You won’t be able to purchase a Cobra MK IV.

If you are a PS4 Commander, then is no way to buy the ship.

We (PS4 community) keep chasing sporadically on this (currently 28 page) thread : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/314330-Will-PS4-get-the-Cobra-Mk-IV
And have been given various assurances such as:

You knew this question was coming. :p
Surprised it took you so long to ask :)

We are still working out the finer details of the PS4 Release and there'll be further announcements closer to the time.

And latterly

I'm going to be chasing this up today, I'm aware how eager everyone is to get into the seat of the Mk IV [yesnod]

Also happy 1 year birthday, Elite Dangerous on PlayStation 4!

...but it hasn’t arrived yet.

I have access to the Cobra MKIV but I've never bought it or flown it, because I can see from the stats that it is junk, just like the Viper MKIV. From what I remember these versions trade off agility for better tank, but that doesn't really work well for these small ships since it is better to avoid damage than to try and tank it. Medium and large ships are are going to eat that tiny bit of tank alive, and you'd wish you had the better mobility of the MKIIIs. Both MKIV ships are a disappointment.

Viper IV is an excellent ship. It's great for mat gathering on planets. It is however, not a step up from a Viper 3. It's what the Asp Scout should've been while the V4 should've been a heavier harder hitting V3.

I'm happy to let the MkIV stay exclusive, but I don't like feeling taunted by the fact that a small ship with 8 slots is possible, but not available in some other form. :)

The Viper IV was my first exploration ship--best combination of slots and jump range I could find early in the game.

They had to make it somewhat disappointing otherwise the come all ye lately snowflakes would have shouted P2W at the top of their lungs until it was nerfed into the ground anyway

The Dolphin is close with seven and moreover the biggest slot is a class 5. Perfect for a massive fuel scoop or a GFB.

Yes - Ship and module storage are part of ED. Ships can only be stored or swapped between at stations with ship yards though. Module refitting is more readily available.

The Viper Mk IV is a fairly good alternative to the Cobra Mk IV for exploration IMO. It lacks on the optional slots a bit (better than the Cobra Mk III) but other more capable options will require a higher degree of capital investment.

I'd give my eye teeth for a Cobra Mk IV but since I didn't know ED even existed back when you could be an early adopter then I'm sure it will never happen... unless they relax that restriction sometime in the future. Again, probably will never happen. I just hope that sometime in future releases they'll give us a ship of similar construction or modify an existing one to be close. That Cobra Mk IV would make a dandy mining ship. I'm building a T6 to use as a mining ship but the two small hardpoints are gonna be the bottleneck I'm sure. Bumping those small ones up to a medium size would make me a very happy camper. Or, add engineering to mining lasers to give them a little extra oompf so the small ones can be more useful.
