Why can't I find any cobra MKIV ships- I have Horizons

An interesting thought, but I'd prefer a skin for a useful ship. No amount of paint and polish can make a Cobra IV as good as the Cobra III.

It's a realty good deep core miner, I made over 7 million in less than an hour and a half... And that's with the reduced prices that I got, it should've been over 12 million.

There's really no better small ship miner. It might just become my mining ship of choice. You can make really good money in about 2 hours, which is a good session for me.

Up until now, I hated the Cobra IV.

Ok FDev, how much cash money will it take for me to get a Cobra MkIV? I'll even sign a non-disclosure statement promising I'll never tell anyone that I have one and if I do you can take it away, plus I'll pay the credits required for ship purchase and buy a new paint job for it. Take my money please.... Think this will work?

I'll sell you a Cobra MkIV.

Me me down the docks in half an hour.

Wear a dress.

It was time-limited, and you had to purchase Horizons on the PC before February 5, 2016, or on the XBox before July 30, 2016.

Interesting, I bought Horizons (full game + expansion) at the end of 2015, which seems to be well before the "February 2016" cutoff date, yet two places claiming to have it on Inara both don't show it in the shipyard for me. I'll have to investigate further..

Edit: investigating further: you actually needed to buy horizons separately from the original base game to get the cobra as well. If you were a mug like me and just bought the "horizons" game during the brief period it was sorta a separate game instead of DLC, you get a gold asp instead.

I absolutely despise schemes that lock new players out of content.

My protest takes the form of having a Cobra MkIV all decked out and fully engineered, but not being happy about it.

ED hasn't had a paid for DLC since Horizons. Without going back on their exclusive & time limited deal for the CMKIV for Horizons, Frontier could do another pre-order special deal for the CMKIV again for the next paid DLC in the future, presumably "ED: Atmospherics" or "ED: Ambulatation"

It's trash. Get a Mk III instead.

The Mk IV is barely faster than a Type-9 Heavy, and the only redeeming feature it has is that it can carry MOAR cargo than the Mk III.

You'll die when someone looks at you though.

No such problem in the Mk III. It has legs and speed, making it the perfect light multipurpose. For small ships, speed trumps armour/shields.

Just keeping score :)

Fun fact: I fly mine quite often and I've never lost it. Granted you won't be flaying many corvettes in it but as long as you're happy to evade combat with ships where it's out of its depth it's a cracking little ship especially with some judicious engineering. It's a small ship with eight internals including four class 4s!

Sure there are other ships that will let you do anything you could do in the MK4 more effectively but you can say the same thing about virtually every ship in the game that isn't an Anaconda, Corvette, Cutter or Python.

Agree. I said it's trash, not useless.

But the amount of people who say a ship is only good if it does pew well... Then complain about FD focusing on combat ships.

Did this turn into another "Free the CM4" thread?

Why wasn't I told?

Simple fact is, the CM4 does make for a decent small ship but the justifications for it to be made generally available are rather undermined by the existence of the Dolphin, which can do most of the stuff anybody might argue that the CM4 is especially suited for.

Having said that, I'd be a happy bunny if FDev did release another small ship with at least the same number of internal slots as the CM4 or Dolphin, simply 'cos I don't like driving the space-bus. [sad]

Something like a miniature Krait would be smashing, when you get a minute FDev. [up]

Now with deep core mining it has actually a role under certain conditions. Preferably in high security systems where you are allied with all minor factions so that mining is fairly safe here. Other than that its exclusivity is the only unique selling point. Remove this by making the ship available to everyone and the already tiny fan club of the MkIV will shrink into unrecognizability.

I used mine in an anarchy... No issues. The C4 makes a great deep core miner.

Along with the other pleasant surprises that have popped up in the past few days, opening up Cobra MkIV to all would be another great way to finish off the Elite: Dangerous - Beyond cycle.

(just saying...)

That's a great idea. Let everyone bask in its mediocrity.

I wouldn't be opposed to having the mkIV available again in some way or other, it not only makes a nice miner it's one of my fav ships for kiling Thargoid scouts. You don't need the extra speed of the mk III and with Guardian and AX kit onboard it's ideal for getting into nice furballs of fights with clouds of saucers and that's when the extra "tankiness" soon becomes apparent.
It also happens to be the smallest ship I can stand to use in a dogfight when using VR - as with the Ieagle, fighters etc I start to get motion sick. As a result I still tend to play at least half the time in "2d" using my trusty edTracker.
