Not to sound ungrateful, but no love for LEP?

I wouldn’t have paid £100 for premium beta if I’d thought Horizons and a much needed adding of content to the basic game was all I’d be getting by this point in time.

It was to support the development which planned out to be very slow. Anyway, they seem to be back on track so I’m not so bothered at the moment other than when they say “free”.

Hopefully it will be really expensive then :D

Thanks for paying for the free updates over the last year for everyone - we appreciate it! Without noble minded philanthropists like yourself the world would be a worse place - you really are like Santa Claus to us all :)

I tend to agree...they make out you're supposed to feel grateful for fixing rubbish gameplay mechanics and bugs. The reality is the Beyond update is such that they couldn't charge for it anyway. How would that even work? I still use old mining mechanics and you pay for new ones? That would be a horrible thing for them to maintain. It isn't an expansion, it's addressing issues. They should be apologising for it taking 4 years to fix stuff that should have been done pre-release, not telling you how lucky you are that they aren't charging you for a game you already bought.

Yeah, spot on. That’s why I don’t resent Beyond being free. They’d struggle to sell any paid expansions without it.

You’re welcome freeloader.

Except you do need horizons for the new mining tools so ya you have to pay more for that if you just have the base game unless that has changed if the last few days.. We all paid for it one way or another so its not "free".

For anybody coming to the game now, or anyboyd who hasn't yet bought Horizons, some parts of Beyond wont be free indeed.

For those of us who bought Horizons before Beyond was announced, Beyond is free. Because we bought Horizons, and got Horizons. Anything more was not covered by the terms of the sale, so anything extra on top of that for which we don't have to pay is necessarily free.

Except you didnt pay for it. When you paid for it you had no idea you would get this too, and a lot of it doesnt even require Horizons.

There's a flipside to that coin.... When people bought into Horizons they didn't actually know what they were getting. All that was shown was a roadmap filled with nice words like crafting and crew features. No one knew they will turn out to be RNGineers and multipew. Or we could go even further back to the Beta stage, where no one knew what will actually be in the game at launch.

Does anyone even remember the discussions we were having on this forum about how E: D 1.0 will contain all of the features from the DDF, and that FDEV are just keeping them "a secret" for the "surprise"? And FDEV keeping silent the whole time?

So yeah, when people paid for Horizons or the whole LEP or whatever, they had no idea what they were getting. True and true. But bottom line is that they paid for it. E: D is not free to play, end of story.

The price point, content and release schedule wont trigger any salt from me no matter how it pans out.

I'll look before leaping.

Nice, so you have already stated you are a freeloader; no cash from you other than original purchase, no skins or other extra's. You also ridicule those who chose to back FD with actual hard cash and those who buy paint jobs etc; I'd not want you as my customer.

Well I am grateful that they are fixing 'rubbish gameplay' and that they are doing it for free. Of course they aren't just doing it out of pure generosity, it makes sense if they want to sell more expansions later. But that doesn't stop it from being a good thing. That's more than I got from VW or the countless billion dollar companies who don't pay taxes in Europe.

Cheers easy.

Beyond however is free for all Horizons owners, end of story.

LEPer here. As of now I have had nothing for free. I have paid for it. Whatever they think of adding, I've already paid in advance for it. See how it works? Good.

If it ends tomorrow, well, those are the breaks folks.

You can look all you like but with frontier where you land will always be somewhere completely different :D

Nah, not really. We knew horizons was a bit of a mystery bag and I thought it was (and still is) great value for money pennies to the hour. I'd have happily bought more seasons in advance, but they've dropped that now so never mind.

Realistic expectations help.

I bet you guys also thank Microsoft for all the free Windows updates they're giving you for all these years.

But in the end, what do I care.... Ed and Adam going on and on on stream about how Beyond is free... if this is what gives you butterflies in your tummies, who am I to judge... Happy that you're happy.

And I bet you are one of those selfish people who are the reason that our society sucks. ;)

It’s good value per hour for sure. Shame about all the misleading pie in the sky videos from frontier back in the early days by Lord Braben. The games not even close to what he was selling it as back then even now, so people having unrealistic expectations is down to them. Not it’s customers.

Are you talking about the videos where David Braben says they don't know if this stuff will make it into a game but that it is their vision. And that if something of it makes it into the game it will probably be way after release?
Nope, totally the customers.

You know thats the only thing that still winds me up about all of this is when they do live streams and keep going on about all the new features being free.

It’s not free when you’ve already paid for it!! Silly I know but every time they do it I mutter something about it not being free. If they said no additional charge it probably wouldn’t bother me. I don’t even resent this year has been “free” lol

Aye same, one that really struck a nerve for me was Braben doing an interview proudly talking about ED's success being because of Frontier's loyal following and because updates have been free with a revenue through microtransactions model.

It was a bit galling to hear, you're like, yeah your most loyal followers paid up front for those free expansions.

When I read that it was obvious that Frontier/Braben give the LEP no thought whatsoever, that it just doesn't factor into any equation for Frontier.

And I think it coincided with people starting asking questions about what was going on so I don't think it was just me.
