Sell me on the beluga

Actually just messed around in Coriolis and made a build for Conda, Dolphin, Orca, and Beluga. The Beluga with some extreme engineering can almost match a Dolphin but not quite, and falls short of Orca and Conda. Here's what I came up with on the fly in order of least to most jump range.

Beluga: https://s.orbis.zone/10ov
Dolphin: https://s.orbis.zone/10ox
Orca: https://s.orbis.zone/10o-
Anaconda: https://s.orbis.zone/10oy

The difference is massive, the Anaconda gets so much more for a MULTIPURPOSE ship (and thats not even some of the more extreme builds people have done with module swapping) that is supposed to be decent at everything but master of none, compared to dedicated tourism ships whose purpose is to go out there and be like "LOOK AT THAT!" that it isn't even funny.

There's basically no need to build a Beluga when Dolphin and Orca are cheaper and get more jump range, and the overpowered Anaconda gets to go where no one else can. The only things that come close to a Conda are like DBX and maybe an ASP or super stripped Krait but even then I think those values are closer to Orca than Conda. Basically if you wanna do what I want, which is to get on a fringe system in a glorious tourism ship for delicious 4k screenshot with a sexy ship, you're outta luck. Ugly multipurpose ships (or just plain ugly) are your only choice.

But when you load the Beluga up with cargo, it makes less difference to its jump range than you might expect, so that it makes a useful CG haulage runner, although engineering it to survive human pirating is a challenge Ive not yet worked out.

Conda with same cargo (i think even a little more) would still probably get some more jump range than Beluga, still runs colder (even with Overcharged powerplant), and fits better shields if you have to.

Ok salesman. I'm a billionaire who enjoys a wide variety of game activities but not overly interested in making money since I already have alot. I own most ships but none of the Saud Kruger ones. I'm looking for a reason to buy a beluga. I know its stats on coriolis so not interested in those. Give me your best sales pitch on why I should buy a beluga instead of keeping my cash in a savings account earning 0% interest.

no luck. i see really no reason to buy a ridiculously shaped, pretentious and posh ship with fins, except you have exceptionally odd taste or little dignity. sorry to disappoint. not really :p

I believe arguing against the Anaconda fails at so many levels it's pitiful how FD have allowed it to remain this way. I hold out hope with Legs that commanders of Condas will have to climb several ladders and along very long gangways to go for a pee.

Literally due to all the negative points of it versus its own twins of Dolphin and Orca, or a ship like Conda, there is no reason to buy one EXCEPT for if you put say a Black Friday skin on it, then its a giant black space phallus for slapping other ships around as they go through the station mailslots. Give it as much "MASS" as possible with B-rated components then do nothing but keep your speed under 100 and just slap things around in the station and the mailslot and violate them with unrelenting "GIRTH".

Pretty much. It's the blatant lovechild of Frontier and can't ever be allowed to fail in any way. Even garbage companies like Blizzard when trying to balance games like WoW, Heroes, and Overwatch, don't make it THIS obvious (except the time back in WoW for Warlods expansion where Ion was on the Q&A just dumping all over Demonology warlocks with his "we'd rather you didn't play Demonology" comment). It's clear Frontier is obsessed with the Conda, which given their past lore you'd expect that to have been the Cobra MK3 instead.

Post oddly split into two posts pointlessly so uh... extra post here I guess?

I wanna fly the Beluga, I really do, but damn is it useless compared to two in it's own series and like 5 other ships (in terms of exploration alone) with DBX, ASPX, Conda, Krait MK2, and hell probably even Type 6 (or was it 7?) at this point.

- It needs a good deal more optional internals. After all, it is the very biggest playable ship in the game and should act like it.
- They REALLY need to fix the overheating problem. You currently cannot scoop fuel without a ton of alarms going off
- The chairs in the bridge sit too low. So the 'dashboard' area encompasses almost half your forward view.
- The HUD is very off center and you actually need to align yourself with the bottom of the HUD element to actually be centered.

+rep for your accurate reality check.

Incorrect HUD alignment really upsets me for some reason - it's depressing how many times FDev have screwed this up (is the Chieftain-class interdiction HUD still wrong?)

Additionally I'd never been able articulate my exact dislike for the Beluga cockpit but you've nailed it; The chairs are so damn low that half your screen is just wasted on dashboard.

Hey, I'm gonna have to stop you right there. IT'S BALANCED!

Just because it's the longest-jumping, highest-DPS, best distance-hauling, best passenger-ferrying, ship in the game that's also darn good at pirating, mining, and exploring whilst not being rank-locked doesn't make it perfect. Have you all completely forgotten the serious, game-breaking flaws of the Anaconda?!

  1. The windows need cleaning
  2. There's loose wiring hanging out of the cockpit ceiling.

I rest my case; Let us never question FDev's integrity and flawless balancing of the Anaconda again.

That is why it is only two-thirds the hull mass of the Federal Dropship, despite being eight times larger (double in all three dimensions).
Nothing to see here, move along now!

Anaconda. A one-of-a-kind prototype ship made of ultra-light unobtainium and phoenix feather gold. Yeah. For what it's capable of, it should cost at least 500M stock. THEN I'd be willing to accept it.

I bought a Midnight Black paint ........ for that extra menacing look in the slot

And a black SRV to go with it [woah]

Thanks Chris, I've tried reposting the images ... otherwise it means TinyPic is broken and I will have to try Imgur again.

Sorry, still nothing. Now it shows just a line, instead of IMG brackets, but no images. It can also be my browser, though. It happens, sometimes.

Yeah that's you. I can see them just fine. Very dramatic shot of the ship flying through the toasterglow.

Can you post a screenshot of that? :D

Before I spend an evening trying to figure out why my browser doesn't display tinypic URLs I'd like to be sure you're not trolling. :p
