Describe the next SRV (buggy)

Whilst I enjoy the Scarab I also eagerly anticipate an alternative (or few) new SRV(s)... ...and Santa's coming after all...

My ideal would be a motorbike type of thing. Fast, manoeuvrable, dynamic, no guns, no cargo, but quick and agile, with a very effective long range high fidelity scanner. Great for data scan missions.

Now, over to you, what would you like to see in a new SRV? Lots of cargo, and good weapons but slow? A unicorn wearing a pink tutu?

Tell all! You're amongst friends after all!! [heart]

Skimmer. Driving the SRV with head tracking is the only video game experience I've had that actually makes me nauseous. I pity those having to drive SRVs in VR. Until Player Skimmers come along, I will be avoid surface activity as much as possible.

Some kind of future tank, something like this which I found via random google search

We have SLFs, now we need surface combat vehicles

Nothing. Pretty sure they are backing away slowly from SRVs at this point, given the utter lack of updates except for those awful Guardian ruins and sites.

In terms of what would be nice? A light hover-boat, focused on finding and obtaining engineering resources. It'd be absolute pants at combat, but in exchange it might get an improved scanner, and a faster, more stable driving experience. To enrich this, the vehicle could scan exploration objects or points of interest. It could also be a way to obtain mats or missions.

Also, can we PLEASE get something better than that stupid scanner!?

I, on the other hand, would like to see something bigger and slower, with more than 2T cargo capacity.
Looking like this f.ex.:

I would love some surface metal/mineral mining and something to go along with that.

+1 . I don't suffer from VR sickness at all - I can move around in VR using conventional first-person movement all day (I much prefer it to teleporting) - but I'm green after 30 minutes in the SRV. It's the combination of the bumpiness of the terrain and the constant din of the engines. Some kind of hover craft would be bliss... [up]

My very long time imagine one is a submarine SRV!!!

When we'll be able to explore the water/methane worlds in ED, I'd love to dive deep into huuuuge canyons flooded with water/methane, as I'm dreaming humanity will explore Titan with submarine probes at some point.

Hate to break it to you, but I think you'll find that, if further vehicles are ever attained, that the current Scarab is the "motorcycle" option - fast, low cargo, lightly armed. The logical companions to it are a "truck" (slow, high cargo, lightly armed) and a "tank" (slow, low cargo, heavily armed).

And yes, logically, additional vehicle types were originally planned and should eventually become available - otherwise, what's the point in "selecting" the Scarab to puchase, if there's only ever going to be one choice? Might as well just call it a "Scarab bay" and have it come pre-equipped with one.

Agreed but I suspect some here are overlooking one vital aspect - the physical size of the current SRV. Even the current one needs to have the wheels retracted into the body to fit into hangar via the hatch so I can't see anything larger than the current model we have. Apart from that aspect there is no reason why FD can't give up variants of the current SRV or at least let us modify or swap out modules to make the SRV more applicable to different roles.
