Squadrons and carriers

I don't disagree with anything you wrote, but I disagree with the outcome. Fleet carriers were never going to change the game. A station to call home, that was mobile, and could probably be upgraded by feeding resources (increasing what outfitting is available, for example), would definitely have provided a fun distraction for about an hour and a minorly useful tool for the future (for moving squadron resources around the bubble), but game changing? Such that it would make or break for the game for you? In the face of SUCH a vast raft of improvements over the last 12 months? I'm surprised is all. :)

For me i think it would. My main focus of play is around player group activites. I'm not interested in building a fleet of ships, mining or exploration. So the carrier would have really moved the game forward. It means my FDL would transport with the group and act as a short range fighter- my role in the group. If I had known 6 months ago it was going to be cancelled I'd have quit then as it would have been clear the game has no legs left for me. Again, the biggest frustration is that FDev monitor these forums. They know people like me (and I'm not alone) were looking forward to this and planning around it. It feels like they thought "should we tell them? Nah, as long as they think it's coming they'll keep buying paintjobs like good little suckers".

People putting the word "sim" next to Elite are loosing credibility at the same time. Elite ? A sim ? Seriously....A space game, that I agree.

As a squadron leader, I like to think that the benefits provided by multiplayer enablers are not lost on me. I don't see FD's store and paintjob/ship kit policy as greedy either, plus I'm eminently happy with the direction of the game the last year and that didn't cost me a bean. I also don't feel carriers would add anything to the exciting game that I am currently playing.

Are you in a squadron? Do you often work towards meaningful goals with more than three other people? Genuine question, not trying to belittle. I wasn't bored iwth the game before I formed a squadron, but I must say the game has taken on a whole new level of depth since I both started a squadron, and started playing the BGS in a more serious way, with serious goals and plans to achieve them, worked out in conjunction with others. I also know that joining my squadron has breathed new life into the game for several of my squadron members, cos they've said so in no uncertain terms. You need to get the right squadron for you though, one that will invest you in the lore and the reasoning behind actions, not one that will just order you to do missions for this faction one week, and fight in this war the next week, without ever explaining why. ;) Sorry if that comes across condescending, I know that you play MMOs and you've said you like multiplayer, I just wanted to share my recent history and also post a little recruitment propaganda in case you want to stay and wait for carriers and see if they will be the game changers you hope. My fingers are crossed for you, as I imagine that an implementation that would satisfy you, will also be great for the rest of us. :)

Squadrons are coming with Beyond Chapter Four. The Fleet Carrier is delayed, probably coming in 2019.
I would not hold my breath on that score.

Frontier should look at this other game called X4 Foundations and see what they can add to make Fleet Carriers better.
I disagree - the X series is sufficiently different from the Elite series (esp. ED) to make any comparisons irrelevant.

I'd like to have a reason to return...hence why I check in here periodically. As yet, nothing has presented itself.

I think the impassioned feedback FD received concerning carrier implentation and function influenced them to re-asses their plans. I am cool with waiting if what we get is an improvement over the original idea.

That wasn't the reason they provided, which wouldn't have been one they'd feel compelled to hide I wouldn't expect. I'm unconvinced this was the reason.

I agree, even though i can of course understand the disappointment of players who waited for an already announced feature.
That a developer pulls a planned feature for redesign/rethinking isn't uncommon.
Just today i read that CCP pulled the alpha of "Project Nova" and took it back to the drawing board.
I much prefer that to pushing inferior stuff out of the door, which only will frustrate and annoy players. In fact i very much expect that from a dev-team with self respect and respect for the players.
And if they thought it wasn't ready (for whatever reason, i don't need the details), you can bet your bottom dollar the players wouldn't have thought so either.

But they didn't pull it for a redesign. They said it was because there was conflicting pulls on resource with an unspecified future update. You're allocating a reason that has never been aluded to. There's no indication at this stage that carriers will ever be added. We just got a kind of discord type thing in the game...great.

They didn't cancel this feature. They just said it was delayed.

I didn't see that. Can you provide the statement from FDev saying it's just delayed? I must have missed it.

All they said was it's not coming with Beyond Chapter Four and " The team are very keen to bring them in". Can you provide the statement where they said it was canceled? :p

They didn't. I'm reading between the lines. If it was planned for later release the PR savvy thing would have been to advise that it would be released later. Then when they observed the fallout and frustration they would have advised that it's still planned but will be later. However, if it's cancelled it makes sense for them not to say it explicitly but let dome speculation continue that it may arrive. It's not planned to be brought into the game, evidently.

Sure!

Squardons is still a major part of the Beyond - Chapter Four update. However, the fleet carriers specifically were prioritized and unfortunately won't be making it into the Chapter Four update. they may well come in the future and that doesn't mean that they will be paid for content. But as you'll see in the post of mine above, it's a little early to be able to talk about the dates and details at this time. We'll soon be able to share more details on the Beyond - Chapter Four update as a whole. Hope that helps?

Was the last I saw, no guarantee they would be coming, or if they were coming what time scale. No guaratee they would be free, but didn't say they'd be paid content.

"Indefinitely delayed". I'm imagining what my company clients would say if we were to give them that line in respect of their investment returns. The standards FDev are held to are very, very low.

Good thing that you are not their client and that you didn't pay them anything for carriers.

Yes. I am their client (or the analogous equivalent for a continually developed game). Not sure why you find the equivalence too abstract to comprehend.

Are you going to present an argument now that Fdev owe no duty of communication and delivery of announced contet to the player base? Because that would be a very detrimental approach for a game developer to take.
