Fallout 76 Announced - Are you in?

Listening to this now as I type, and earlier watched his initial reaction.

It's clear now this is a low effort store front for micro transactions. Looking at the 500 Atoms you are given as an apology for ripping you off on the canvas bag, and to put that in perspective, a blue skin for your power armour will cost you 1800 Atoms!

Disgraceful.

Gotta agree with Joe, I have gone from excited and looking forward to Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 to worried and dreading. After the cash grab for paid mods and creation club update for F4 and Skyrim, we really should have seen this coming.

I think their engine will suit ES6 better than Starfield. Both are likely to have projectile combat in them, ES6 with bows, throwing axes etc. and Starfield lasers and the like, which will mean they will both likely have some form of VATS in them too because their character models move so jankily, like puppets suspended from string, that aiming can be tricky.

If they haven't announced a new engine by now, then Todd will likely be telling the truth and they will reuse the existing one for two more games. How long can this continue? It looks out of date now but in another 3-4 years its going to be laughable.

Gotta say I was fired up for this. After playing a bit, not so much. Games like Conan Exiles do a better job, look better, and have larger building budgets and no micro transactions. Pretty disappointed.

You are not getting the 500 atoms as an apology. In the quartering video I linked, Jeremy makes a great point - if you accept the 500 atoms, you are effectively giving up your right for a refund or any kind of action against Bethesda. They are just covering their backs from the law standpoint, not apologizing or compensating.

Yes, I've since read that too. Although on of those IANAL folks have also pointed out that it shouldn't apply to digital goods and may not make a difference anyway but I can see how Bethesda's lawyers, who are way more talented than their games designers it seems, may have pushed that as a get out.

I think I'm done with Bethesda if I'm honest. I don't really like their engine, which they should have ditched/upgraded years ago, then I hear their next two games will be using it and now this deceit towards people that cared enough about their franchise and company to spend $200 on what I consider pointless fluff.....it's over.

If I were Todd, and this is assuming he didn't already know, and I heard that some of my most gullible loyal fans had stumped up $200 on one of our biggest special editions I would make it a personal goal to make it right for those people.

I don't know how many 1000's of people bought those bags but how expensive could the prototype really have been? Take a look at the following:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vintage-Mi...543837883&sr=8-9&keywords=canvas+military+bag

£26, and yes I know its not like for like and wouldn't take a T51b helmet etc. etc. but if the price had been really expensive for them its because the people making it for them smelled money! No way should it cost more just because its made of canvas. Bethesda could have afforded it but chose to be greedy instead in a clear bait and switch move, and their shame and this PR disaster will haunt them for years to come. And when their new IP comes out I can't wait to see what their special editions will be like, and I hope the buying public that got screwed over don't forget this.

It makes me sick when I see those same old YouTube personalities like AngryJoe bang on about how they were ripped off, misled and so on, and you just know these idiots will pre-order their next efforts the second they are announced. Whether this is because their channel requires this for them to stay relevant, knowing that other channels will go ahead and do it anyway, or he is just a common or garden idiot, I neither know or care. This is what happens when you pre-order and with their move on not putting this on Steam you have next to no chance of getting your money back, which was the last line of defence for those that still advocate pre-order culture.

"Pre-order the game dude, I mean, what do you have to lose?"

My soul....

Almost hell, West Virginia
Server crash Mountains, Disconnect River
Engine's old there, older than the trees
Cracking like the mountains, freezing like a breeze

Empty roads, take me home
To the astro shop I belong
West Virginia, asset flip mama
Take me home, empty roads

No NPC's to gather 'round them
No more canvas, perfect says Todd
Inept Bethesda, painted on the sky
Misty taste of shoddy, teardrop in my eye

Empty roads, take me home
To the astro shop I belong
West Virginia, asset flip mama
Take me home, empty roads...

It's gonna be okay. Knowing Bethesda's recent track record, the leak will have been to a pentesting group and their security will be beefed up because of this.

See, Bethesda couldn't even do a major data leak right!

I am so glad I didn’t buy Fallout 76. I was interested before the beta, but after that I decided to wait until after launch to see how it released. Glad I did.

Before this I was super interested in Starfield and I love the Elder Scrolls games so it was a given I’d buy that on day one. Not anymore. Anything from Bethesda going forward will get a wait and see approach from me. Period.

Let's be fair, they couldn't even do their cash-shop right.

I only hope they learn from all of this. I'm still interested in Starfield and TES6, but my enthusiasm has gone from "OMG SQUEEEE" to "Please don't mess this up."

Bugs I can tolerate. Not excuse - tolerate. Previous Bethesda games were good *despite* their comical bugs.

What I can't excuse is the really poor customer service, the lying, the cash shop insanity, the creative laziness, and the abandonment of the types of game experiences that I and so many others adore them for. Those are the kinds of things you can't fix with a patch.

I didn't buy Fallout 76 because I had a bad feeling about it from the beginning. Now I'm glad I didn't.
