Thought this was a nice touch.

So I'm 2000 ls above the orbit rings looking for High grade emissions when up pops one of the those distress signals with a threat 2 so I go have a look as it is getting tedious looking for the high grades.

I drop in expecting a trap but there is a T6 with some cargo beside it and a FAS in front of it so I scan from a distance and the FAS is a pirate. I wait to see who else Drops in but nothing happens so I nosey over for a closer look.

As I got 4km away 3 DBX's appear out of nowhere! they must have been silent running, they opened fire as they appeared and I start to turn my Conda to make a hasty retreat But just as I'm about to boost 3 green dots appear on the radar.

So I boost toward them dragging the pirates with me, it's the feds so I turn back on the pirates and start blasting. Got all 4 pirates with the police distraction then they leave and I start picking up the leftovers.

Another 4 pirates drop in with a different assortment of weaker ships, so I kill them too and this happened 2 more times.

All the while the poor guy in the T6 is crying for help with his busted ship but as I'm clearing up the droppings of the dead pirates in drops a Search and Rescue ship which saunters over fixes the T6 and off they both went into the night.

Seems FDev have been fleshing out random encounters while I've been gone, I found this most interesting to watch and would not have seen it had I not bothered to drop in or run from those pirates.

You were in an Anaconda and hesitated to split an FAS in half with one or two volleys?

Hang that ship up and get back in a Viper... you should be ashamed!

And then, hiding behind the cops at the sight of a mere 3 DBX's? You could ram them into wreckage faster. Even more shame!

Anacondas are for killing things. Why do you think the cops use 'em?

But seriously - yeah, they have shored these up a bit - nicely played, Commander! Nicely played!

Still not confident after coming back after a long absence, I lost a ship in a conflict zone when my shields were taken down and then engines in 10 seconds when back when I could kill until the ammo ran out, it was a shocker.

So I try to avoid combat at least until I have my ship engineered.

I usually ignore distress calls because I don't have repair or refuel limpets equipped, I thought it would be awkward to visit just to take a look and not help. One time in had a few different limpet controllers with me and no distress calls appeared. I will be less hesitant knowing that the situation can resolve itself if the attackers are distracted.

Don't avoid combat till you have your ship engineered. Get in a cheap ship and re-learn all the entrophied skills while getting used to eating a few rebuys again.

Does wonders for your confidence when you start killing bigger ships in your Viper or Cobra again.

This guy comes in here and shares a cool story and the first thing that happens is that he's criticised over which ship he flies and how he flies it.
Great reply guys hmmhmm!!

I liked your story OP and I agree those events are rather nice, Fdev is realy on the right track there and in 3.3 these events will become even better with the new scenarios.

These types of encounters are awesome.
They tell a mini story and give you enough hooks to use your imagination.

Uhmm, don't you think that it depends on how he outfitted his Anaconda?
Or perhaps he is not that experienced in combat.
There can be all kinds of reasons to avoid a confrontation.

Not all Anacondas are built for combat. It's a multi-role ship. I use a lightly-built and lightly-armed one for long-range cargo.

I think you all missed the last part of that reply:

The DBX has a large weapon. So that is three large weapons and six medium weapons not including the FAS. Add the FSS and that is 5 Large weapons and 8 medium weapons from multiple moving targets against a ship that may not be engineered to the hilt. Personally I would say that retreat was the best option. Especially as NPC ships can have engineered weapons too.

Nice story OP. These will only get better when 3.3 drops too.

Stay tuned.

You missedi it by light years.

So let me spell it out for everybody who missed it - The whole first part of my reply was comedic community satire.

A stripped out, unarmed Anaconda is a cardboard tube. Even a fairly built one will go up in smoke fairly fast vs a half decent combat pilot. But do you know what goes up in flames faster around here? The community. Dare ye to play some way other than how someone else says. So a little lampooning help remind us not to take ourselves so seriously and have fun. OP had fun and lived to tell the tale.

The rest of you... relax, and maybe write a paper on “satire”, except the fellow who got it - you’re good :)

Nice story Dice man.... that sort of thing happening in game bodes well for future narative/content.

Yeah, these are good these little scenarios - and there are,way more variations out there than you think. Wasn't always the case but the game is creeping towards a critical mass imo, where seeing the same scenario more than once or twice, is getting rarer and rarer.

On the scenraio itself, well held Cmdr. Had you started FSD countdown before the Feds arrived? How close were you to missing the whole thing? o7

Don't dare though to lock up the Distress Ships (supposedly out of Fuel and Damaged) and check them out.

- flying close to them makes their Thrusters engage to avoid a collision
- no fundamental damage exists that'd prevent them from moving around or jump out
- when under fire by the Pirate/Ambush NPCs, you'll realize they have Experimental Unobtainium Armour. They're physically invincible ;)

But I like that (normally) a Search & Rescue Ship now drops in a while after the scenario is cleared, so it leads to a logical conclusion.

Better yet, starting from next week you'll have voiced-acted versions of these encounters. :D
