The fruits of my labours from day #1

Is that a northerly, 340 degree or so approach Cmdr?

I find Heading 212 > 232 gives you a nice run off into the crater to help with gaining altitude afterwards.

There's a "mickey mouse" crater I look for to align with when finding my starting point...

Yeah, I've started getting sloppy about which direction I approach from. Done a fair few with the crater at the back but I just end up smacking into its back wall anyway so I thought I'd try something else.

My gut feeling ( needs more "research" ) is that you actually gain more height with FA OFF and close to zero degrees (applying boost + vertical thrust) , than you do with FA ON and 45 degrees vertical upwards thrust.

.. but as I say, needs more research :)

Oh no, you're absolutely right on both accounts. Heading roughly 220 gives best runoff. And pitch zero has most upwards thrust, 45 also tries to brake. What you can do is floor the forward thrusters and pitch up a bit. You only need to get over the crater.

Success! I don't think I'm going to break any records but I'm just delighted to have managed not one but two successful runs this afternoon!

Still sorting through the submission and the chaos you all created Sunday at midnight.

A few facts, though, just to keep you excited.

30 submissions in total. 18 participants on the leaderboard. And I know quite a few people tried or planned to submit as well but either weren't able to get a valid run in or had other commitments on raceday. One of the most used comments from SB1 veterans was: "This is a lot harder than last time where we just had to freefall". That is what we were aiming for, but also "This is stupid lots of fun and I'm glad I participated". I think, in this regard, the location in the bubble with the shipyard really was a huge bonus, and I can't praise EDSM enough for helping us find that place!

Between third place and fourth are just EIGHT m/s in final speed, with the entire top ten being within just 53 m/s!

There were several last minute, and I mean last minute, changes to the podium, with pilots coming completely out of left field to smash their way onto the podium. Heartbreak as well, with people fighting to get a medal, just to be bumped down with mere minutes to go. And one fairly spectacular, second place run that turned out to be invalid due to a mis-boost just 8 seconds into the run.

All I can say is - a little bit of patience, we are trying to sort it all out and will get you a racerun countdown on Twitter as sooon as possible!

Ah! What a dumb mistake to make, that guy must have felt a real idiot at the end....must suck being him. [noob]

Thank you again PrimetimeCasual and Halo Jones for the spectacular event, very much harder than Speed Bowl I, and very much stupid lots of fun!

And congratulations of course to Sanderling for just being him, to Alien Hunter for snatching away my usual 2nd place at the very last time (see? I'm congratulating, I'm just that nice :D) but really, to just about everyone else having so little sense of self-preservation to even think of trying that. [up]

Attention contestants!

On Wednesday, we will attempt a mass Speedbowl as grande finale around Bombelli Prospect. We plan something around 1900 - 2000 UTC, please check Discord if you want to participate!
