Will we ever get an official apology for this disaster of a launch?

Good luck with that chargeback. First you would need to provide supportive evidence for the chargeback to occur in the first place. If you are successful (unlikely), Frontier would note the chargeback (and thus loss of revenue for services rendered) and provide their own evidence to the bank, the successful resolution of which would mean they reclaim that chargeback. After which, they could lay a charge of theft, or chargeback fraud against you.

But, sure.. you do you; see how it works out.

If you don't like the game, fine. Just leave without all the melodrama.

Not quite. As far as bank / cardservices care about, all that's needed is a statement of "services paid for have changed, unhappy with new changes/services no longer have paid for value". The worst that would happen would be Frontier banning my account or hardware config or IP. Which honestly given this new system doesn't sound half bad. I'm sure other games will find more value in my money and not make sweeping changes that ostracize half the playerbase that critically examines their efforts (while the other half for lack of a better word.... is basically a bunch of white knights) and don't want to accept garbage as the only means.

So far, we can see that bugs corrected in beta are back in live game, that bug reported in beta and overlook are still in live game. Happiness is not working.
And so on...

It is pathetic. And they seem not ashamed of it.

Thats why i dont participate in this company's betas. Fool me once...

It's my understanding that in most countries, chargebacks cannot be initiated by the consumer. The consumer can only dispute a charge on their card. Which means the bank will do the necessary investigations and either initiate the chargeback, or not. Further, as part of their investigation, the bank will attempt to contact the company that made the charge (in this case, Frontier) and inform them of the investigation (this may or may not apply to all banks). They all also request information from Frontier to validate or invalidate the dispute.

Point is, I doubt you'll get the chargeback; and even if you do, Frontier could still dispute it. Just because you no longer accept what Elite has become, does not entitle you to a refund (forced or otherwise); that's not how it works. You paid for a service, you got that service. Otherwise gamers around the world would play for years, then demand a chargeback simply because the developer added Christmas decorations to the users favourite tree (or other equally silly reasons).

If you do go for it, just make sure your ED was not bought on Steam (they don't like chargebacks and wield that ban hammer with a vengeance).

Have a nice cup of coffee or tea and give it another day or two. So much new stuff was introduced in this patch that the servers are going to have a bit of indigestion for a while.

Hate the changes, hate the new exploration mechanic, tempted to do a charge back on all my Elite purchases because this isn't the game I originally paid for anymore. Good luck if someone discovers something new on a planet like "D f 9", you don't even know where that is until the whole bloody system is scanned, can't see at a glance anymore. Plus useless interface minigame instead of actual mechanics. Sheep mindlessly going "oh exploration is so fun now" no , no it's not. What's fun? Things for explorers like the Space Jellyfish discovered, or new alien life, or new structures of alien origin, not an eyesore of a minigame making systems a chore to navigate anymore. Can magically punch holes in reality to warp in seconds to a system yet can't just send out a wide omni-directional pulse anymore and get feedback of basic planet types now.

Hate what Elite has become.

You can keep all your badly salt corroded stuffz.

While I sympathise with the OP, if any apology is due, it is due to the hard working peeps that made the changes, worked late hours, to bring this to us, only to be let down my someone who didn't have the foresight to see that if any day was to bring in large amounts of eager players, launch day was absolutely going to be the day.

We're 12 hours later and still the client is showing 'Issues Detected'...

Of more concern is the new lighting which for me at least, in VR, is a disaster. I had a headache after 30 minutes playing. The new scan screen looks pretty but completely breaks any VR immersion and indeed is completely wrong! One minutes I'm on the bridge of a ship, the next I'm sitting on nothing, in a vast space with a screen in front of me.

The new Phantom is nice though, first impressions is that it in no way an FDL killer and is merely a 'racer'.

The new iconics look nice, but... why? Everyone and his cat knew the layout, now it's all changed. Why?

The new keyboard/hotas/input is a complete disaster. This was thought out by someone who has never attended an Human Input Ergonomics training day. Yes it is a thing, a very important thing. Here's an example; I had no idea what the screen did or how it operated. So, I left changing/assigning keys until I could actually you know, see the screen. Big mistake. How to exit the that screen if you hadn't previously made any assignments? There is no way!! You have to kill the game from task manager!! That's just idiotic. If anything, if it were me... I'd have used by default the Galaxy keys and at a very minimum used 'ESC' to allow exit.

As it is, I still have no idea what the screen does. Not a huge issue, I don't envisage ever using it.

As for the launch day shenanigans, was it to be expected? No it was not. Anyone with half a brain-sell between their ears should have expected a huge influx of players on launch day.

Not having the server capacity to meet that need, displays a willful ignorance of expectations, or a complete disregard for the playerbase, and indeed, their co-workers who laboured to develop it.

I'm with the OP. I play another game where already two hours of problems would result in a boatload of compensation items from the ingame shop. That other game will have a new content patch today. I'm going to play that. With yesterday's desaster I have had enough of ED for a while again.

Not necessarily in that order.
