Yep, loving the new lighting and the atmosphere it can create.
I can imagine it may be a bit too "cartoonish" for some at some locations, particularly when the system star has some really distinctive colour (like purple or green).
But I love it. One of the main reasins I play Elite is looking at pretty things. And this is pretty. :)

Are there green stars?

Go out on a clear night and stare up, there is a general blueness but you can pick out reds and more blues and even yellowish ones.

Refraction.

In deep space, they're all nearly white.

The star colours in the game as they were in the previous releases were already embellished heavily to visually differentiate them based on their spectral class. The current update has not changed that fact. There's nothing wrong with the stars embellished as they are, it's the same level of embellishment given to nebulae, after all. Remember that in real life, nebulae aren't nearly as colourful in visible light, and they are more diffuse than air, so we wouldn't see them if we were inside them.

IMO the lighting works very nice but it's oversaturated in many cases, take a look at this picture:

The surface of the planet looks so pink that it looks like a cake, not like a mountain.

And you know for a fact that in real life the chemical composition of the planet would not make it naturally bright pink?

I'd be okay with white. I'd probably be okay with colors in general as long as they aren't applied to background stars as well. As far as i can tell the current update has changed how stars are colored - not the local star, but every other star in the skybox.

The new lighting is different but it has grown on me. Still, the galaxy map is very hazy now days. Not sure why that had to be lit up.

Perhaps some of this new lighting is what will make new surface textures look better when they come out.

I can accept the surface of the planet being pink. Its the stars. They are wrong. They just arnt all the same colour and that screenshot is a particulalry ugly blue. They arnt all red either.. there should be blues and reds displayed at the same time as whites and all the others.

I agree that this skybox tinting is a bug that needs fixing pronto.

Not really.

It's taking what was once a good attempt at verisimilitude and is slowly bringing it to No Man's Sky territory.

For being near a black hole it could make some sense for space-time dilation Doppler effect.

But yeah, in general it's off and I'd prefer it were fixed.

I don't understand this 'cartoonish' thing people are saying. The graphics don't look cartoony to me... /shrug

I havent decided if I prefer them yet or not, but I don't see the cartoon thing, that's for sure.
