Notice how FSS (Full Spectrum Scanner) modes aren’t assigned to anything when you boot up Beyond. You’ll figure it out.
Notice that the Combat/analysis mode switch isn’t assigned to anything when you boot up Beyond. You’ll figure it out.
Notice that the key bindings section is becoming so convoluted and unintuitive that FDs own programmers can’t make any logic out of it.
Notice that this game is full of idiosyncrasies such as these.
Notice that despite this games inherent beauty, it is beginning to collapse under the continued load of “adding stuff” without any thought to actual playability.
Notice that I as an original fanboy am disappointed with this “let’s get this barebones game out now to generate revenue for continued add-on/development for years to come” strategy without any attention to actually keeping the game fluent and playable.
FD finally after 4 years got around to adding the content that should have been there from day one, but it is practically inaccessible to all but the most die hard management fetishists, because of the non-sensical convoluted inconsistent mess that is key bindings.
I honestly can't recommend this game to newcomers, purely because of this mess.
- Notice that you have an “enter FSS mode” at the top of the FSS bindings menu.
- Notice that there is no “exit FSS mode” bindings option adjacent to “enter FSS mode”.
- Notice that there is a “leave FSS” hidden somewhere in the middle of the FSS bindings menu. Not an exit FSS mode. Not even a “leave FSS mode”. No, it’s a “leave FSS” bindings option.
- Notice that you can assign the same key to enter and exit FSS mode, but the bindings menu would never think to suggest this. That would just be too logical and easy.
Notice that the Combat/analysis mode switch isn’t assigned to anything when you boot up Beyond. You’ll figure it out.
- Notice that you can assign a given secondary key binding in analysis mode, but you can’t assign said key in combat mode. Because reasons?
