The controls are a minor problem. Wait until you get good at the mechanic and start using it. That's the real point where your gut sinks.
I disagree, I love the new system. The old one was not exploration at all.
I like it. Using the new scanner mode is a lot more engaging than endlessly supercruising around systems.
You don't see people mapping the ocean floor with divers and a pencil and paper do you? No they use radar and technology. It's the year 3300....we have technology.Yeah, flying 500,000 LS to see if that HMC was terraformable isn't exploration, but sitting by the star moving a few sliders around, now that's REAL exploration.
Everyone remembers how Roald Amundsen heroically explored the South Pole by sitting on his couch and turning a globe upside down.
If you could supercruise faster, then zipping around the system scanning planets would be a lot more engaging than fiddling around tunning.
It's the tunning I hate most. Why are we manually tunning signals in the future when we don't even do it anymore in the present?

Yeah, the new mechanics seem very well suited to world type cherry picking credit farming exploration. But for me, it still isn't how I get my kicks playing the game.
The most fun I've had with it so far is actually not using it and just happening across a couple worlds in a system in supercruise, then DSSing them. The "explorer" and completist aspects of my nature had me park up to FSS the rest of the system and DSS the rest of the worlds. This was a mistake.![]()
...
I still have to DSS everything else to complete the system in exploration game mechanic terms, but I'll have to save that for the next session.

And then I DSSed a gas giant! [haha] ← "Famous last words."

Hmm...

Mapping is not the same as exploring.
Given the advances in technology by 3304 you'd think the FSS would be automated so that it produced a schematic diagram of the system with all the images of the planets in the system on it.
Oh, that's right, that's exactly what the ADS did. Technology just took a great leap backwards.
The changes make exploration feel like a chore now instead of a relaxing past time.
In 3304 they'd automate all ships and humans wouldn't be needed.
Old people can't adapt to change
I don't get it. You can do the same things as with the old system. You can do the same things faster for the same amount of cash, and when you do more you get more. I think I had to add 4 bindings for it, which are all pretty much reused for similar things (granted, I'm a mouse and keyboard user).
Any questions?
Played since Alpha, insane amount of hours sunk into Elite, bought your skins etc. And this latest update is a right royal joke. Have spent an insane amount of hours working to get this pathetic exploration system to something that works decently, I am done.
Most un-intuitive system ever been put into game since day 1, What path are you taking Frontier, cause I sure don't seem to find it enjoyable anymore, controls on top of controls on top of controls.
I will give it 6 - 12 months and drop back and see, but as it stands I not bothering with this keybind insanity any further at this time.
** No you can't has my stuff, I may return late next year![]()
I started a thread with the X52 default bindings, they work pretty good.
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/464655-PSA-X52-FSS-default-bindings-inside
If people really quit because they can't be bothered to bind 5 keys I hope they stay away. You are holding the game back. Imagine what would happen when they release spacelegs? 'Move forward?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN FRONTIER!!!'
PS
And just to be perfectly clear, it doesn't get more pathetic than this thread title. Especially when I consider that it took me less than two minutes figuring out the new controls.
