So who precisely of you fine folks had the vision of "improving" the graphics after 4 years?

Yeah, the blocks where the first thing i noticed. My condolences :(

What i''d ask you to do is not just take screenshots, but to point your ship towards your local star (prefferably red or orange) and follow the steps outlined in my bug report and take screenshots before and after the fact. I've yet to get any that others are affected by this. This might be just a fluke with my particular config (though it would be pretty specific, with the steps neceassry to reproduce this).

I replied to your post in the other topic, but to be sure: why is your 'original' so greenish/washed out? What is your driver version?

I'm wondering about why those images are so terrible as well, I saw someone else mention "cartoonish" graphics and I thought that was hyperbole. After seeing his images and a few others I'm thinking there's a problem with the new rendering engine, a problem that effects the graphics on some hardware and not others, or it might be the rendering in certain areas of the galaxy and not others.

I only posted the lower res images I had, I have some 4k images as well that are directly looking at a blue star and as I rotated away from the star. None of my images are "cartoonish", the image looking directly at the star shows the HUD washed out and very hard to read. That's about the worst I see. I will try to reproduce the bugs report images but I don't see any part of the Milky Way skybox as bright as the bug report, probably down to my location.

I love how hes broke the filter BTW. It looks so nice when its off aswell

I think some of the graphics on my hardware look much nicer than pre-3.3, in some areas and in some ways. Remember, this is v3.3, in a few weeks there will be a v3.3.0.1, a v3.3.0.2, and a v3.3.0.3 which will fix many of the issues people are seeing. This isn't the first time we've gone through these growing pains. At least our avatars aren't being rendered without skin!

Yeah sorry, my subscribed threads didn't update for some reason. Thanks for the info btw. I guess the game works differently in VR. Would you able to post a screenshot from a system with a neutron star (if you're near one...) - i understand that the color grading is different on your end?

The background isn't all that important, since the color grading is applied to the whole screen. The images i've posted are almost exclusively from neutron star system, since that's were the effect is most prominent (for me). What would be important is a before/after image to see if the bug happens on other systems as well.

Light weirdness...

PS4 Pro Commander here.

I’m finding the new lighting system hit and miss, a crate full of things I love and a ‘conda load of things I don’t like too much.

So to start with, this strange gamma/brightness/HDR eye adjusting effect combined with the colour grading sure gives some odd results. The backdrop and galaxy should not be affected, like the Milky Way is bleeding near a red star, or frozen near a blue/white star. The galaxy has a colour palette that should remain separate from the local star(s).

I think regarding this bizarre HUD lighting I’ve seen mentioned, that is significantly affected by the colour grading and local brightness or darkness of anything nearby. The HUD should be a separate lighting element not affected. If you can’t read it, how can you navigate?

It’s like at night driving when someone heads in the opposite direction with full beam on and you’re blinded, I think this adaptive lighting is trying to show your commander adjusting his/her eyes to suit, which on paper is very cool, but the execution here is slightly off.

Planets, stations and rings to me now look a bit more awesome, unless you are in system with more than one star light source that is.

Personally I’ve not had a completely unreadable HUD or anything as bad as the screenshots here, are you guys using HDR/UHD displays? Mine is an old 1080p 40” screen with no bells, no whistles.

I do have trouble with the red ‘PROX’ now looking like a giant red unreadable blob however.

Commander earthtone99 out...

Ok so after actually seeing this in game, its not the issue i expected it to be. It is however still wrong and ugly but if you arnt near the star the backgroud goes back how it should be.

I'll take a screenshot from Rift and post it tomorrow, I'm in the Western Neutron field ATM so finding one isn't much of an issue :) I have noticed the colour wash effect close to a star, but it desaturates quite rapidly with distance...

I'm afraid arrival distance is not an option i can select while jumping from sysem to system...

I kind of feel that when you are looking at a black backgroud the stars might actually look a little bit better, slighty more 3d but even far from the star the galaxy is really wrong. I think you might be able to improve things by tweaking the gfx from the ini (or whatever its called)

Forums in a way do not disappoint of staying disappointed :D

To be fair, most likely this feedback with detailed info is more useful to devs than gloating praises. New system will take some time to tune in, so that's good to have also some negative feedback. I thought in some cases stations where too bright, but other than that did not have any complains.

I tried replicating the bug reports but didn't get any effects like you see in your shots. I'm not at a neutron star but I tried at a few white dwarf stars and a few other places and there's some kind of effect but it's not pronounced. I would say that there's more of an effect at red dwarf stars for me, the dust clouds in the skybox seem to get a lot redder in those shots than elsewhere. The stars in the skybox seem to have the correct colors. I did update my drivers and the blocking effect is gone.

I don't get any lighting changes when exiting the galaxy map, I was in realistic mode like your bug report. The cockpit looks pretty normal under most lighting conditions besides the HUD changes I mentioned earlier, I didn't see any abnormal lighting inside the cockpit when facing away from the stars. I also didn't see any lighting changes when jumping. I tried to replicate the filter disabling, I'm not seeing anything as noticeable as your images, there does seem to be a color shift from the same region of space different in normal vs. supercruise. You can see that in one of the shots from Beta-1 Tucanae, much bluer in SC while redder in normal space.

I took a lot of screenshots, I'll upload them all so people can see but I'll link to the albums for each system. Most shots are from testing but a few are from random areas of the game.
