So who precisely of you fine folks had the vision of "improving" the graphics after 4 years?

Fun Fact: Elite Dangerous is actually a Video Game. Theres literally hundreds of things in this game that are not accurate. Why some disgruntled man babies have decided to cling to this one thing is Beyond(TM) me.

I've been called that before. :D Seriously though, it's just a discussion about an addition that a significant number of players dislike or consider flawed (from a technical perspective, it's hard to argue that it isn't). Very few of those who feel this way are actually asking for the feature to be completely removed, just that players be provided options. I don't see the point of erecting oppositions where there aren't any.

Sorry I was busy playing Elite the last 2 hours. Had an awesome PVP encounter with some dude who really seems to want to kill me. (he still cant)

In relation to your point - Thing is, I would like the development of Elite to focus on things that are a tad more ,shall we say..important?. "Eww the skybox colour seems a tad off" Oh really? Thats too bad. Meanwhile we still dont have atmospheric planets after almost 5 years. We still have crappy P2P servers..its going to be 2019 soon... The list is pretty endless.. Hows about we forgo the petty details and get working on the meat of the game, perhaps? If everytime a group of "non game developers who just play video games and complain(TM)"(AKA These forums) tried to start a movement to undo something stupidly unimportant (like this) and FD actually listened , you, we, I and all of us would be very, very old men before anything resembling the finished product would be released.

TLDR: Lads - we have bigger problems.

Goodnight.

Incidentally i've been busy mapping multiple undiscovered ELWs and terraformables, altough I was barely able to enjoy myself because of the messed up skybox.

I'm deeply sorry for taking offense in shoddily implemented lighting systems, and I undertand that fixing bugs in newly implemented system take precious resources away from implementing new mechanics. I'm certain that not fixing existing or newly introduced bugs will greatly accelerate work on important features like atmospheric landings. In fact, i'm sure that the quick and comprehensive work FDev does in regards to bug fixing (just look at the forums - we barely have any!) is the sole reason we still don't have any of the features you are requesting. I'm sure everyone else will be more than happy to take a step back from what they want implemented and fixed so that FDev can get on with whatever you think is most important.

TL;DR you don't get to decide what's important and what's not.

Keep up the good fight CMDR

Did FD come out and say that the lghting is not working as intended?

If they did then fair enough, its a bug..and bugs should be fixed..no arguement there (though there is a priority list and this would be way down that list from a gameplay persepctive..)

But if its not.. are you just that desperate to validate your own petty annoyances that you took it upon yourself to proclaim its a bug?

Staggering.

TLDR: You dont get to decide whats a bug and whats not.

Keep up the good fight.

I could have sworn your post said something different just some minutes ago...also, what's with the emotes? If it's such a chore for you type a reply, why make it harder for you by adding even more words?

First off, the lighting system is undeniably bugged, as it reproducibly over- and undersaturates the screen when exiting the galaxy or system map (the latter under certain conditions), which is not dependent on graphic settings. You can see the tint slowly fading in, among other things. Also, if i don't get to "decide" what's a bug, why do you get to have any say in what order bugs get fixed? A far as i can tell FDev has no priority list for bugs and just decides at random what get's fixed or not, as long as the bug isn't game breaking. That aside, FDev coming out and saying that something is a bug is not a reliable indicator if something will get fixed or changed - they usually just stop adding entries to the "known issues" list after a few days.

How odd! I've been out discovering and mapping multiple systems and enjoying every minute, even with the 'interesting' colour-wash changes. I'm happy enough to live with the 'new' shadings and with dark places now actually being dark. But then, I'm only playing a game and not expecting anything even resembling 'real' in it - if I want reality I'll get out more :)

What does this sentence even mean? What emotes? What are you talking about?

Because i said *rolls eyes ? You want to argue about my use of that? Holy hell man...no wonder youre not happy with some things in Elite..you sound like you might actually be slightly insane.

Youre babbling son.

"That aside, FDev coming out and saying that something is a bug is not a reliable indicator"

Right..and some random disgruntled man baby is?

Give it a rest.

That would probably be more effective if the board didn't display the time a post was edited in addition to when it was created. You were going for "unsettling", but stopped at "comedic and desperate". I take it you're trying to derail this thread?

Let me get this straight..

Youve moved off topic and are now on to me about editing my posts.

Correct?

Maybe you could leave some tips on how you achieved this here?

Would make a facinating read for some im sure.

Derailing it is then.
...and on the ignore list you go.

*Argues that FD saying something is a bug holds more water than some random pleb on forums does.
*Random pleb proceeds to talk about post edits while accusing person of derailing.

*Responds to random pleb calling him out on this.
*Random pleb states he adds person to ignore list.

*Arguement self evidiently won.

My job here is done im pretty sure.

One less idiot to waste energy on I guess.

*Shrugs

I don't think you could even begin to understand something quite so complex, as you are certainly not me :) but have fun your own way, as do I.

Outside of the game world there is this odd place that is filled with other things called 'humans' and many strange and interesting things called 'animals' and much flora, fresh air and both darkness and light... (in many shades too, awesome!)

GIGO :D

I was not actually having a go at you..i agree with you! That was directed at our less fortunate friends!

I've managed to reliably break/disable the filter in my game, see bug report here. Can anyone reproduce this?

If I have time I'll try to reproduce what you are seeing, although I'm in the bubble, nowhere near as far out as you are. Where I am the Milky Way band isn't as prominent as your images; I'm not seeing my graphics as badly impacted by the new engine as others have noted. I took quite a few images in and out of stations, near a variety of star types, one was an O type, the other a white dwarf, another an orange star. I took images as I rotated my ship so I could see any effects caused by the star's light. I did see the HUD color impacted by the outside lighting. The worst impact, which might have been my 4 month old out of date Nvidia drivers (GTX 1070 Ti) was a macroblock effect on the light of the O type star. I've since updated the drives and will look for changes.

I'll post links to some of the images here in case anyone wants to look at them:
