the FSS, watching paint dry....

Just got back to Jaques after a trip to Sag A* & back to swap ships, then toward the Abyssal Plains, total of around 32Kly round trip, all done since 3.3 dropped so FSS'd all the way. Thanks to some assistance from two of the explorers who dislike the FSS intensely I was able to find a (first) black hole and a few other 'new' type stars for me.
It was great fun to do the trip 'just because I can' and to get back tonight feeling happy enough to head for the Abyssal Plain properly. This trip started in a Krait MKII and swapped to the Phantom for the second part, I like the Phantom, nice ship for exploring IMO.
I think I'm as sane as when I started, but then, all mad people do :D

I can already tell you that some will complain that it reduces credit payout for honk+jumpers, for starters. I'd personally be fine with it, on the condition that what is revealed on the system map 1) isn't shown on the nav panel and cannot be selected on the sys map until scanned with the FSS, and 2) isn't revealed on the FSS screen before locating it yourself.

So if all it does is show the visuals on the system map, without providing shortcuts in any other way (so in other words just provide a visual aid for some to determine if they want to use the FSS or not), that is fine with most. I proposed it way back in beta as a compromise, and I dont think many, if any, opposed it.

Mind blown. You're asserting the idea of restricting other players options when it doesn't effect your playstyle at all.

Tried therapy? Maybe we should all go to the pub some time and take a load off.

EDIT: As far as game mechanics go, both systems are one the same. Its simply when and how the rewards are received. The FSS is by far the EASIER mode, so introducing a more "difficult" option does.. not.. in.. any.. way.. impact... the new god mode. The ADS does not provide anything material and noone is asking for it. The ads is still the first step of the fss..

Seriously dude, maybe you should take some time off, think long and hard about what people type and then come back and be a bit calmer. Or if that fails at least ask for clarification. People have discussed in great detail the consequences different changes could have on a variety of different playstyles and you simply seem to completely miss all of that. There is a reason I suggest those restrictions, and it isn't because I 'need therapy' nor should it blow your mind. These extreme knee-jerk reactions every single time you don't understand something makes it all a bit fatiguing. Discussing game design should be a little bit more engaging than yelling "u so crazy!" over the fence.

I see the discussion over FSS is as healthy and constructive as ever.

It's Schrodinger's game design element: Both God Mode / Super Easy / Boring, but also Confusing / Complex / Hard to use at the same.

Also apparently now, people who like using it are the bad guys - gotta love this community [haha]

i think we know what this is really all about.

The new system uses blobs and patterns to optically program the players brain to buy more cosmetics from the store... thus, it will stay as is :)

Now we're getting somewhere. I blame the lizard people working at FDEV for unleashing this psychological warfare device upon us.

It helped me decide not to buy any more store stuff. So, in that respect, it's been a success.

I think I’m weird.. I’m exactly the same, the store is very much not called for atm.. but I kinda feed sad about it. So silly lol

I hope frontier do alright because the spirit of exploration is aimed more at the people who are using their steam credits for other games not buying multiple aaa titles worth of skins so yeah best of luck.

Let's be honest now, staring at a computer screen for hours on end is not good for our eyes, period.

Speaking of waterfall, trying staring at an actual sonar waterfall in a nuclear submarine for hours on end. You'll come back singing the praises of the FSS. Perhaps that's why I love it so much....

I had spread spectrum displays...

So anyone else find this incredibly boring? I think I'm going to quit while I'm ahead here, way too many controls to map and rather confusing to boot.[where is it] Heading back to bubble to try out the new mining. Hope you die hard explorers have fun!

Right? I had to map like... five whole buttons (all of which are dual mapped to my ship controls). The humanity.

Anyway, for me this is more a debate about minigames and pretty colours, and about immersion levels, than it is about the exploration dynamic per se. I expect a similar debate to take place following future updates as more areas of the game are hit by this new touch (have already seen a couple of Godawful paintjobs which point in a similar direction, ie away from where I want to be), until the playerbase adjustment settles down.
I genuinely don't think you need to worry. I'm going to end my involvement in this thread (only because I'm getting repetitive enough to bore myself, not because I think anything I say is the Last Word), by making a simple bet.

If FSS hasn't been rolled back to Basic ADS Honk within six months, I will, quite metaphorically, eat my hat. If it hasn't, then by all means any of you here on this forum may feel free to metaphorically eat your own hats - though of course it's not for me to tell you what to do.

But I genuinely think your hats are quite safe. Even metaphorically speaking.

It'll never be rolled back - there are enough people who love it that it makes no sense to do away with it entirely.
I'm hopeful, however, that within 6 months we'll get some ADS-style functionality back alongside the FSS.
