Sure. But accusing someone of commit fraud is, as is saying CR is intentionally scamming people. So I am just asking trying to get clarification from the mods if accusing people by name of crimes is okay or not. :)

We're just assuming that there could have been something morallly wrong or illegal connected to Mr. Roberts and his fellow Board members, we're not accusing them. That's a minor but very important difference.
Our assumptions are ofc for the purpose of argument to indicate a premise on which a statement can be based.

What if the fooling results in financial loss or bodily harm?

Then it's not fooling, then it has went from fooling to fraud or assault, battery, etc, depending on the circumstances.

Squadron 42 roadmap is up. I was expecting a 2020 release and the roadmap kind of confirms that. Sweet.

News are breaking!!!

Crowdfunded developer Cloud Imperium Games is raising $46 million from a private investment that now values the company behind the massive, in-development title “Star Citizen” at $496 million, the company tells Variety.

The investment comes from father and son Clive and Keith Calder and will be used, according to the company, to create a “marketing war chest” for the 2020 release of the game’s campaign mode entitled Squadron 42.

Development on that long-awaited campaign, according to a development roadmap made public Wednesday, is slated to finish in the spring of 2020, with a summer 2020 release.

Founder Chris Roberts says the new deal will help the company maintain its independence and ensure that all the crowdfunding money raised and being raised through the sale of subscriptions and virtual goods, will continue to be focused on game development.

Would you mind if I started publicly accusing you of crimes because it 'is how I see it', even if I couldnt prove it? Mods, is this ok? If not, can we have a list of who we can accuse?

Exclusing TJ, you cannot level accusations of things against other forum members.

I said half-jokingly a few threads back that all Chris Roberts would have to do to stop such accusations and bad mouthing would be to join the forum and make his presence known (and probably verified by FD to ensure it isn't just someone pretending to be him). At that point he would be protected by the same forum rules that cover all other members.

Remember when they said they could make both games for 6 million? Or was it 2? Or was it 65?

And 2020.... with agressive deadlines, with a pop up saying "I get it" (no option to select "You're 'aving a laff mate!") to them basically absolving themselves of missing that deadline by whatever margin they choose.

Breaking news? More like a wet fart in the face of backers.

I consider the forum rules pretty clear as to what can be posted and what not. If you feel unsure about what you can post either dont or give it a chance. Also if you feel someone is posting stuff that is actually breaking forum rules you can always report them. /shrug

That Forbes piece brings with it an unusually high amount of financial info (for SC standards that is):

By the end of 2017, the company brought in a total of $207 million and had spent $193 million since 2012. Capital on hand at the end of 2017 fell 26% to $14 million from the prior year. Total income—made up from fan pledges, its subscription pass and fan events like its annual CitizenCon event—has been consistent the past three years, with the company bringing in $44 million in 2017.

The majority comes from fan pledges. Backers can no longer directly donate to the company; they now receive something in return, be it the early-access version of the multiplayer for $45 or purchasing in-game assets like starships whose costs can rise into the hundreds of dollars. This year, the company matched 2017’s $35 million, calling December its best ever month for pledges.

The highest expenditure is on its staff, of which 85% were developers last year. With a headcount of 464 across five studios in 2017, salaries cost the company $30 million. Staff size has since grown to over 500. Other costs associated with development made up the second-largest line item, at $10 million.

If I read this correctly the article info pretty much supports those theories about SC having really used up most of the 200+ millions so far, high annual spend at the 40+ million per year, and being in a delicate situation to finish up without external help.

Looks like CIG has bought itself one more year (in addition to whatever it can still get with ongoing pledges). Really curious to know the conditions that huge sum came with. Going to be really interesting to see the evolution of the relationship between CIG, backers and all the new investors :D

Also... 8 years to get SQ42 at least (if there are no more delays).

So they got nothing near release and SQ42 is scheduled for 2020 (beta?) which brings development to 9 years and running. In addition we all should know how reliable CiG schedules are so 2020 is with a high probability a no-show. I gotta say when it comes to fulfilling negative expectations CiG really shines :) Looks like this free-drama entertainment will stay for a couple more years....love it :)

Another item checked off for discussion and looks like the skeptics were right again. "Pledges" on the RSI-store are actually SALES, this declared by CiG itself. ^^

Investors hoping to make a profit on the back of $211m in pledges from the faithful that kept little old crowdfunded CIG going for years. :D

EDIT.. Calling it now. SQ42 won't get to chapter 28.

Looking at those numbers, it seems like the campaign will be quite lengthy too.

No change there, then eh?

Given that $46M is circa 18 months funding added to whatever they have left at the end of this year; that takes them through to release of Sq42...

So no need for any more ship sales, Yay! :)
