Ship docks, CQC structures and other new in-game assets

If You feel inclined still, Momorient system is worth a visit. Lots of new stuff and scenarios.
Bring Guardian Shard cannons (a.k.a cash cows) and collector limpets.
I have saved a hospital form pirates right now.

Note: Docking computer is much faster now...

Yeah ... as I mentioned a while back, when "special" things are everywhere the need for a thread listing all the "special" things becomes somewhat redundant. Oh well, this was fun while it lasted. I might still try to catalogue a few especially notable ones (e.g. I need to go and photograph Lave Radio's Orange Sidewinder bar).

Hey Alec, I found a huge Capital ship drydock, must be one of the new assets.

Lol, I've been contributing to this thread since it started. Wanted to check with Alec first, not 100% sure if this is new.

Location is my home base in Q1 Eridani, near Sol.

Yeah, that seems new. I've added it to the list as a "huge dry dock" variant (did it have an in-game classification that distinguishes it from the more conventional ship docks?).

It is listed as 'Capital Ship' I thought it was a bug, until I flew round the other side and noticed the two Farragut Battle Cruisers.

Found something called Flying Lamb around LHS 2451 LB 2. That thing flew way faster than me, so i could only see the glimpse, looked like a civil installation with some scannable satellites attached to it. Haven't seen mentions of this one anywhere, so reporting in! [yesnod]

I think installations and the like which speed away from you when you drop at them is a bug which was a lot more prevalent during the beta. Sounds like it's not entirely fixed tho. As for adding that installation to the list - if you manage to catch it and it's particularly nice then let me know but, as I've mentioned, since 3.3 there are now literally thousands of installations (well ... certainly hundreds) so I've abandoned the idea of this thread being a complete catalogue but I'm still happy to add especially noteworthy places (speaking of which I've heard rumour of one I shall be going out to verify and photograph tomorrow morning!).

Tried to do a genertion ship tour and can't find atlas anywhere near the star. Thought maybe the fss would trigger on these but it doesn't. Not seeing the ship on the nav panel.

Jackpot! The place in question was "Hidden Osmium Drilling" in the Chiboneskhe system.

It's an installation nestled right into the heart of a dense asteroid ring.

Not only that but while I was there the installation came under attack from pirates in an epic voiced scenario!

Mining equipment not much use unfortunately!

But it's super cool to see NPC's hiding behind asteroids!

And then a thought occured to me. Could it be possible to actually find and explode a nearby motherlode asteroid while all this was going on?

Answer - yes!

Hard to make out but you can just see the lights of the installation in between the explosion and the ring I've made with my engine trail.

Here's another shot from the installation with the cloud of the asteroid explosion clearly visible in the background.

I'm not sure Elite gets much better than this! :D

^^^ Good story, Alec. And yes - there are loads of cools stuff to experience out there. But sometimes you have to create them, and that’s where a good imagination comes into play [yesnod].

Now that looks like a "drop everything and go visit" kinda place! Nice find.

If you go soon then, as I understand it, you may well find the remains of the asteroid I cracked open still there (would be interesting to know). If you want to get involved in the scenario then you'll need a combat loadout but if you want to look for more asteroids to mine then you'll need a mining loadout. Tough call - maybe a hybrid ship?

Not sure when I'll be playing next. Yeah been thinking about a hybrid mining/combat ship but I'm not getting on too well with "new mining" (won't go into details here). Plus a hybrid would need plenty of hardpoints so maybe Chieftain or Challenger. Currently trying mining in a Phantom but it's not agile enough for my liking (but I love that cockpit!). Don't want to go too OT.

Thanks again for this thread, really handy. Do you plan to update it with new stellar phenomena introduced with 3.3.? If not, do you know a thread where they're listed (apart from the ingame codex, where you can only see the first discovered in a region)?

Thanks! No plans to add stellar phenomena. I figured that was probably best done in another thread and luckily the ever marvellous Qohen Leth has stepped up to the mark ...
