Interdicted and killed by real player

You are playing a game where people fly around with guns strapped to their imaginary space ships. What exactly were you expecting? Guns and missiles used for singing nursery rhymes and coom bye ah while you roast marshmallows and drink hot cocoa?

Oh, by the way, OP. You asked about allowance.

The guy who killed you probably gained a bounty, depending on your criminal status or if you had crime reporting on or off. He also may have taken a hefty financial hit, depending on the disparity of your ship costs.

So, there were consequences. But just like in real life, nothing in Open Play prevents one player from pulling the trigger on another.

The only way to ascertain if someone is a greifer is by the complete lack of "package" in their trousers so the only way they can feel "manly" is to destroy someone elses pixels. ;) Sadly there's no way of knowing that in advance.

It's fun to shoot spaceships in the spaceshipey shooty game.

That's what I don't understand, I had no cargo, no bounties in any system, and was unarmed, I was killed in exactly 13 seconds after being interdicted. why would any one kill another player when all there doing is getting a hefty bounty on themselves with no gain.

What kind of a sociopath would do such a thing?

Well, you, obviously! And maybe one or two others out there. Maybe.

@OP please, for your own sanity, do not get drawn into the whole 'griefer...harassment' debacle. The Open server is really the only place where this might happen, and it makes sense in the context of a Dystopian-future-space universe populated with all sorts of pilots from cheery helpful fuelrats to giggling sociopaths who just want to see the Universe burn. When you log into Open, you're leaving yourself Open to any manner of interaction. There are no NPC 'big bosses' or really dangerous characters - this role is fulfilled by other players - but, they are by far the minority out there, and with a bit of help from more experienced pilots, you can safely and happily pilot your way through pretty much anything the Universe might throw your way. In that spirit, here's some basics... probably mehtioned in this thread already (I'm fixing tea atm so this post is taking a while).

1. A properly engineered PvP combat ship will exterminate an unegineered PvE ship in a matter of seconds.
2. A moderately engineered PvE ship can survive almost any encounter long enough to escape* - there is no shame in Brave Sir Robbining.
3. A fully engineered PvE ship will survive all but the most coordinated wing encounters*.

4. *Escaping from another player is not too difficult, but does take some practice...
Always be aware of the ships in your vicinity - hollow squares/triangles are potential threats.
Whenever you see a potential threat, open your navigation panel and scroll down to a nearby system - this will reduce time later.
If you are interdicted by another player, you are probably going to lose - NPCs are too easy.
If you start losing the interdiction, throttle down and submit! This greatly reduces your FSD cooldown time.
Turn and face your attacker, boost straight past her.
Open navigation panel, lock pre-selected destination, keep boosting in random directions, and jump to a different system (there is no masslock when hi-waking).
If you want/need, jump back to that system, and try to get to where you were going, this time avoiding interdiction.

5. There are certain systems where you are more likely to have these encounters. They include:
CG systems
Engineer systems
Popular credit-making systems - such as Robigo & Sothis/Ceos
Popular old world systems
Powerplay headquarter systems

6. Unlocking some key engineers and not focusing on over min-maxing for PvE will make your ships much more survivable.

From my experience, I've been interdicted and attacked by other players about a dozen times in the past 18 months. The last time was by a Powerplay enemy in one of his systems. He eventually waked out - I had report crimes on, and the system authorities attacking him made it pretty one-sided - I was flying a fully G5 engineered combat ship (but have minimal PvP experience). The time previous to that, I was running rares to the CG (not this weeks) in a fully G5 engineered AspX, and my attacker almost managed to take out one of my shield rings before I escaped - the next time I encountered him in SC (the next day, same CG), he completely ignored me.

Disclaimer: I'm on PS4 - I've heard there are more villainous scum on Xbox and PC, but that may just be rumours.

And finally - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh9AWV_BWo0

Learn to survive in 13 minutes.

Oh, and unlock The Dweller (sell to five black markets), then unlock Cheung (Trade at 50 markets).

Dweller gets you G5 power distributor.
Cheung gets you G5 shields and G3 boosters. More than enough to survive most hostile player encounters.
You already have Farseer, sounds like, who can help with your thrusters.

Are you on PS4? If so, I will find and send this vermin to the gates of Valhalla, so that they cut out his eyes and tongue and kick him out leaving him unable to speak nor see in order to navigate his way from certain infinity doom. Ayes!!!

I was in the Deciat system, going to Farseer and was interdicted and killed by a real player, is this allowed? is it a in-humble thing to do?

Ah, the paradox of needing to engineer your ship to be capable in PvP and getting blown up by trying to get to an engineer. You could also try Elvira Maartuk. Bit further out, being right on the edge of the bubble but might have less traffic. Think she does shields as well.

This game lacks an OPEN PVE server.

OPEN is full PVP without restrictions.

Don't waste your time trying to characterize the morality of the players. The game is built this way. Check out Mobius if you want an OPEN experience without PVP.

Someday FDEV will join the ranks of every other MMO that offers a PVE server, but that day is not today.

Double down on the irony that many PvPers confess to doing all their mat collecting and engineering new ships in Solo!

I wish we had the ability to play in certain circumstances where an attack by CMDRs was impossible.
Some kind of... Whatchamacallit... "modes" for example. That would be awesome.

Not me, and I've yet to see this claim irl.
Even my new alt account is almost exclusively in open.

Nor me, but I'm not a proper PvPer - still too busy enjoying all the PvE there is on offer.
I have seen a few cheeky admissions to gathering, etc. in solo, but perhaps 'many' was an exaggeration.
In fact, I'm second guessing doing the DW2 mining CGs cause they look like mostly PG events rather tyan open.

It's fun to shoot spaceships in the spaceshipey shooty game.

Of course it's fun, but does it "have" to be a player controlled spaceshipey? Especially one in a inferior ship, which many do hence why I question the content of their underpants. It's that aspect that many PvPers (not all) just fail to comprehend that other players are NOT their "content", we share the same galaxy and all but if many (once again...not all) PvPers insist on the seal clubbing malarky then they will get no sympathy or understanding whatsoever and my eternal disgust to boot.

So what classifies someone as a greifer in elite dangerous.
Frontier don't define griefing specifically, but they do have rules regarding harassment, and what players call griefing may (note I say may) be harassment.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=237761

In addition taking action such as seeking out and targeting specific players purely for the purpose of being disruptive, to cause offence, or to upset players within the community can also be considered harassment.

So being killed a single time by a player just going "ooo hollow box, lets blow it up" is not griefing. However if they camp outside the station where you respawn, and continually kill you (only) it may be harassment. Or a single kill and tirade of verbal abuse may be harassment (eg: comments about your sexuality; your parents; threats to dox you and so on).
As it says in the link above, it's all about context.

Most player PvP killing is just opportunist "fun", although I personally don't consider it "PvP" when one side doesn't have weapons at all (such as explorers, miners, Fuel Rats).
Just be aware of hollow squares, and especially triangles, and be prepared to evade them (jump out of system / drop to SC, then jump out / head away into deep space etc).

Not sure just how new you are, but if you ever run out of fuel, please call the Fuel Rats for assistance: https://fuelrats.com/i-need-fuel

Fly safe o7
