Weeks of grinding wasted by the update, left the game

So you tortured yourself with brain numbing grind for days or weeks so the bar graph in another station would get a different title. And it didn't work out. Sounds like you should be angry with yourself, not the game. You consciously did something miserable on your own accord.

I watched all the live streams and knew about changes to the BGS. What I never heard (does't mean they didn't say it) is that everything that was in progress was erased. Also, I never thought they'd go live with the update so soon after the end of the beta. I figured they'd be a lot of issues to iron out before going live. Once I found out the release date it was too late to stop the expansion, we were already in the process.

To be honest, had we succeeded in our Expansion from Tobala to Ngombivas there would have been a week or two (or three) as we fought our way to take control of the system. After that I don't know what I'd be doing with the game. There was nowhere decent to expand to so there's a chance I'd left anyway. That's the problem with so much time to play, you run out of things to do. By late 2017 all I was doing was logging on once a day to haul forts for Felicia Winters, nothing else. And then in early 2018 I quit playing the game. More recently I had been trying to learn flying with FA off so perhaps one day I could do some PVP but then I got distracted with the expansion. And I doubt there are too many players in their 60's doing PVP anyway ;-) With the update there's a lot of new stuff to learn, a bunch of controls to remap, etc. I never did figure out the system scanning thing but then I didn't spend much time trying to.

I don't think we can mention other game's names on this forum but a brief Google search should show you what I'm talking about. There's also quite a few YouTube Videos including some by ObsidianAnt.

Only do things you enjoy. Video games are about having fun, immediate fun.

Work is where you grind in order to have fun later. If you are working in a video game, you are doing video games wrong.

I'm loving the changes and the unpredicability of the bgs. Makes it more fun, I work on bgs stuff all the time and at moment it's crazy.

Bugs don't help, but there is no need to leave

We have had 4 wars in 1.5 weeks, and due to bug we have expanded from a system we shouldn't have. When we couldn't stop it.

Funny really

Yes. We all need to git gud at video-gaming.

No, games are not about fun, but fun CAN be a result. We play them for entertainment, to pass the time, to test ourselves, to learn anew, because you just spent £400 on a flippin graphics card and this at least justifies the cost, stave off ennui, make someone's life worse so ours feels better (see anyone watching Jeremy Kyle and all those other "poverty " daytime shows).

None of that requires IMMEDIATE anything, let alone immediate fun. If you want immediate fun, eat candy.

Yeah the BGS whack is annoying - the fun is getting somewhere and having it reset isn't fun. But it happened. Swear a lot and ask yourself if it's worth the time and move on...

Your first discos should be OK though (unless you've been told otherwise?!?!?!)

I also feel for you mate, it has hit a lot of smaller groups very hard, even some of the larger Wings have been having a nightmare. Unfortunately its all down to the need to rebuild. I know its not going to be easy, try asking for some help from a faction close to you its always better to make friends close by in case you need them. You can also return the assistance at a later date if the need it.

We all feel like quitting at times, but stick with it, or start again in an easier system with not such a large population to make it harder for you.

Same happened to my player faction, we were 1-2 days from completing our first expansion when the update hit and reset it.

We decided that no point moaning about it, just got it back to 75% the next day to get it pending again and have spent last 10 days trying out all the new stuff the update brought instead, while waiting for it to complete again.

Now on day 10 since expansion went pending so hopefully it should go through at the next tick tomorrow.

Certainly wasn't "wasted by the update", and even Fdev apparently don't have complete control. X4 is good though, if awful ugly, hopefully the OP will waste his time more pleasantly there.

Ultimately everything is pointless; we do it anyway and try not to think to hard about it. A game, something we have complete control over, should be fun so it's annoying when it's not.

the point is that if the operation of the BGS were "fun" then having it reset would be no different than finding someone had reversed your work, allowing you to do the same "fun" all over again. This would, if the BGS running were fun, cause this rollback to be a nonissue. You get to play it all over again!

If running the BGS is not fun, then why is the OP doing it? If they were forced, this would be one thing. BGS is even more than engineers (which you can negate mostly by staying out of Open) optional content.

We were doing the boring grind to get the prize at the end of the grind, namely a better home station. 5ls from the Sun, good outfitting and usually very good missions. Much better than the agricultural world we started in a long time ago before I was with the faction. Our expansion started, we lost lots of influence which is normal during active expansions, then the rug was pulled out from under us and we had influence numbers in the mid-50's vs. the 75% we pushed it to. So we paid for the expansion then had it stolen from us by the update. And there is no way to adjust our influence or faction state to make amends. In the weeks prior to the update going live I probably put in something like 60-90 hours of gameplay almost all of it for gaining influence, then later paving the way for our expansion to the new home system. All that game time like it never happened now. It would takes weeks of grinding influence missions just to get back what we lost. And I'm not going to do that, so I told support to close the ticket I was gone from the game. Support was sympathetic and was using delay tactics hoping I'd get over my "mad" but they told me in their 1st response they couldn't adjust the BGS.

But if some other group played better you would lose that. And, if it is "better", then you'd have to fight a lot of people's attempts to take it away from you.

When you fall in love with a beautiful system, you better watch your friends.
(better watch your friends, better watch your friends)
...

But the point is that you would likely see this same thing happen in the future. If you are going to leave the game for it once, then you'd leave the game soon anyway. Isn't it better to get it over with now?

Are these kind of replies necessary?

No. Then again yours didn't have anything to add, making it ironic at least. PM them if you want to chide them (they either take the point or don't, but at least you haven't appeared to try to demean them in public) or report the post if you think it an attempt to start flaming or trolling for some forum PvP.

Seriously considered this in a PM for you, but figured there was some chance that it would change other minds too, or at least get them to post more than just a "Did you have nothing better to add?". And not that I can assert I've not done the same as you. Or those others.

If moderation deleted "worthless" comments (rather than go hog wild and ding for infraction) neither your nor my comment would be needed, and maybe comments like theirs would not be posted, since it would be wasted effort. Or at least all four comments would be binned and threads be cleaner.
