Buggiest update ever

The industries leading space game?

It is not even in the top 10s for review score, number of owners and number of players on its main web store Steam.

Sadly right now the only place ED is the industry's leading space game is downdetector.com.

Downdetector - that's great! :D Funny but unfortunately true.

If you count sitting in the launcher for hours waiting for the download of megabytes of buggy update as "playing", yes ED has got very slightly more "players" this month.

Lol, that sounds desperate. Most people have the sense not to watch the little bar go up, I have a terrible connection so I just update it overnight. No wonder you're bored, its pure pebcak. Get a hobby you enjoy and cheer up a bit.

Pretty much is. NMS beat ED for the previous three months -- by x10 at its last expansion release.

There's always a spike post patch and a lull pre patch, the thing with NMS spikes is they fall off again really really rapidly and then stay down. Have a look over the entire history of both, ED's always been well ahead by thousands.

Steam stats are great, I predicted all this in the NMS thread months ago.

Yes, and almost the same amount of players abandoned it quickly after they tried it. Not sure if that's a good sign for the "leading space game".

On PS4, only 46.8% of players buy a new ship after getting their starter Sidewinder. This would imply that over half the players who own ED on PS4 abandoned it quickly after they tried it, either that or they love their starter Sidewinder so much they decided not to buy any other ship...

FWIW, this statistic does not make me happy...

I just logged in & my passenger mission has disappeared. Checked my stats page & they haven't abandoned ship (I've never lost a passenger), checked my logs & AFAIK the mission was there at 10pm when I was last in the game, now it's as though I never had the mission.

It was a rich explorer mission going about 1,600ly out from the bubble with a 3 week timer, I was about half way there having picked up the mission this morning.

I tried logging out & back in again a few times but no joy, the mission had just gone but the passengers were still onboard. I couldn't remember the destination system to try to complete the mission so I just returned to the original port & no surprises there was no change. I also couldn't swap ships, or eject the passengers without the mission page so for the first time in my ED 'career' I self destructed. Fortunately it was only a Dolphin :)

Sorry for the on-topic post, as you were.

ETA when I returned to the ship after the rebuy screen I noticed a 500cr restock fee - it was to top up the (engineered) chaff from 11 to 16. Not sure if this counts as a bug or not, I don't see the rebuy screen all that often.

Ummm... how many Elite buyers do you think actually still play the game? Probably a ratio similar to NMS, maybe better or maybe worse. So do you mean that's not a good sign for Elite as well?

According to the excellent steam stats less quit ED, you should see the NMS player dropoff in the few weeks after NMS launched. Its was stat carnage.

That was way back shortly after journalists families were being threatened by maniacs for reporting on NMS delays, so you can understand why NMS doesn't have its own forum.

my thought -
it doesn't really look like this was the buggiest update ever, since the previous season had similar fails, and i even think that was around same time of the year -
unless you correct the title to "buggiest beyond update ever"

At least skimmers aren’t falling out of the sky to cause death by installation when attempting to land.

At least missions don’t fail by Unknown Contact as soon as they’re accepted.

At least all the planets didn’t turn beige.

i wished you could say "At least the color of the main star doesn't decide the color of the galaxy"

Judging by steamcharts (which isn't anything to judge by...) it seems like Elite maintains a pretty stable player base even 4 years after release.

So, Steam charts are good for verifying facts and providing accurate data - is that what you both are stating? Great! That's progress. But they don't answer this particular question from Babel on how many bought the game and no longer play unless Steam magically accounts for consoles, etc.

Nope the old reverse steam doom maneuver is just funny.

No, that's not what I said.

The Sidewinder *is* a nice ship. Just like the OH Perry class...
