The Star Citizen Thread V10

I backed SC back in November 2015, not much before 2.0 released (also purchased ED not long after). I pretty much experienced almost every live build since then, and in some regards, you can feel the progress, but it took a lot of time and money, and I fear that it won't be enought. Personally I won't give them any more money for concept sales, if I do, it is only for merch.

I love a lot of things about SC, mainly the art style, if not every ship, but most of them appeal to me in one way to another, the soundtrack is awesome, but I hate the fact that CR is forcing on the player the need for escort, the need for crew mates. You will always depend on someone else, either for fuel, rearm, or escort, and you cannot self sustain in the black, not that will be that much un mapped star systems to begin with which was discussed before.

To be honest, I would use some NPC escorts in Elite if there will be an option for such a thing, but not allways. These things fun from time to time, but not allways.

Hi Ladies and Germs, I've survived the holidays.
Can someone give me a short Sitrep as I'm assuming that it wasn't All Quiet On The Western SC Front.

Am I the only one whose clothes are magically shrinking during the x-mas season? :D

Well, now we have a roadmap for Squadron 42 which delayed about a year:

CIG also shared the financials from 2012 to 2017.

There was a 3.4.1 update as well, but I didn't tried it out yet.

you are lucky, there is someone who backed back in 2012 and is still waiting.

You realize that you backed a Kickstarter, which was already one year overdue in November 2015?

You paid my refund back then, because CIG was running out of money, as we know now from the financial data.

Still wondering why there is no finished game in 2019?

Wasnt kickstarter done in 2012? CiG continued to raise development money but they did that through actual sales.

That's the joke. The Kickstarter failed in 2015 by all sensible metrics, CIG was out of money by then and had to stall me for weeks, before being able to refund me.

Just like with every real Ponzi scheme they paid their refunds with fresh money. The money they got from AutumnalWanderer.

Since then they were struggling from JPEG sale to JPEG sale, from payday loan to payday loan, always on the brink of bankruptcy. Obviously development slowed down to a crawl and they were mostly concerned with creating smoke and mirror demo reels for conventions in hope for more fresh money.

Now Star Citizen has been sold to investors and the whole "no publisher", "crowdfunding" theme is essentially over. The backer money is all gone.

They sold the backers down the river for private investment, but it's ok because there's a roadmap for a squadron 42 beta in 2020.

The whole thing is a trainwreck from start to finish.

What?
Is that new ?

Happened 9 months ago or so, but they only recently announced it. Plus the finances, which indicate that if that hadnt happen they would have been pretty much broke. They also announced Sq42 beta for Q2 2020(!), meaning they pretty much have little to nothing done in the moment, and they need Sq42 to further fund SC. That puts SC up for 2023 or something at best, but CIG already indicated the Q2 2020 date is 'best case scenario'. In other words, expect it in 2021 at best, with a release in 2022.

Quite a few, actually, including myself. Thankfully, I managed to get my money out of that quagmire in 2017, after learning about all the shell companies Chris Roberts established. I still think that kind of thing reeks of "Hollywood Accounting."

I'm not giving CIG a nickel until there's a released Squadron 42 I can play all the way through... assuming I like what I see in the release Lets Plays, of course. Maybe, just maybe, if S42 was worth my time, I'll consider repurchasing Star Citizen as well.

Backer's take is overblown on selling out completely and the backer money being all gone ;)

Chunky money is still coming in it seems, but they have been running around a 6mil loss per year for the last few years it seems, and were down to about $14 mil (possibly more like $9mil if they included the Coutts loan in the statements they released, which seems eminently possibly ;))

Things were looking a bit dire essentially, given that loss rate and an apparent lack of finished products. So some venture capitalists now hold about 10% of the shares, in exchange for about $46m, with lord knows how many strings attached regarding direction and remuneration. SQ42 has a quarterly roadmap, turns out to not be all greyboxed and functional as stated, and has a hilarious Q2 2020 Beta release date attached now :D

There are some handy recaps over here on SA.

Yep 10% of CIG shares....but we only speculate about that in here until the "Chosen one"finally acknowledged that few weeks ago in his public letter......

Fear not Zyll! By 2020 we'll have 100 star systems in a living, breathing, believable 'Verse, and 28 chapters of the best FMV clickventure ever created.

Or buckets of lulz.

What's not to enjoy? :D

Been reading some of the arguments on the SC sub and they are golden. The mental gymnastics are off the chart.

They are seriously holding contradictory ideas in their heads and even sometimes posting them in the same post and/or thread.

CIG were not running out of money, they had lots of money <-> they now have lots of new money, so now everything is ok

The new money is for marketing only, its not for development <-> With all this new money they can continue development

I love this. Coupled with "they're so honest and open we now know they got $47M"... Yeah, but it was back in may, for supposedly marketing a product that'll only reach beta in 2 years but considering the 193M expenses I bet those 47M are far from being intact and safe in a bank.
