Future of Elite+Paid For Content

Company is doing fine from what I can see...
Bought 2 games so i have Xbox and PC commanders!
They roughly get about 2 ship kits and about 4 paint skins out of me a year...and I will be buying the upcoming Paid Content.

They will be fine. I can't worry about what might or might not happen with a game company unless I'm buying their stock. Games, at times, come to an end. Everyone should already know this when they purchase an online game.

The FSS... this game is dead to me. If they dont do something about it as far as i am concerned i have been robbed. This wasnt an addition mind, they took something away that i have paid for.

I'm still experimenting with the new exploration and mining equipment/configuration and I'm going to have to disagree with you here.

The FSS, as far as I'm concerned, is an EXTRA thing that you don't HAVE to do at all. In fact, in the old system, you had to actually go to each and every moon, point at it for x number of seconds until you got the scan information.

With the new system, you scan the main planet, then as you get closer to the planet's system, it logs in all those (sometimes as many as 15) moons for you. The scan is complete and you get the same credit as with the old system except you didn't have to surface scan every living thing. Unless you WANT to. Extra money for it but only if you want. If it's not interesting, you skip that part of it and move on. Mining? ping the rings. Exploring? Ping landable moons for interesting locations which actually show up as a target in your nav panel now which is what everyone has been screaming for in the forums for the last three years.

I'm finding it more useful than the old way. I still do the HONK. I see what the honk provides. The only "loss" to me was the dedicated module called the Detailed Surface Scanner which now comes built in. With two options: (1) get close and get what you used to get with the detailed thing and (2) surface mapping for extra money as an option.

I feel enriched with the modification. If you don't feel the same then I'm sorry for your loss.

I dont know how they can expect anybody to give them any more money tbh. You could buy something and then a few months down the line you log in one day and its all changed, even things missing from your ship. Impossible to know what yo might end up with, i mean thats ok when its free... i guess... but lol paying for it.

What!? Somethings changed, missing from my ships? I've heard nothing about this. When did this happen? Is there any ongoing discussion somewhere about this travesty?

I think we need another paid for expansion pass, like Horizons, which has a bunch of new ships/content maybe something else like jump gates that open up other areas of the galaxy easily or maybe a satellite galaxy like magellanic cloud or something. And its only accessible to those who buy the paid for content. I really dont mind spending another 40gbp on Elite expansion especially if its going to help the game develop and pay the salary of the devs who work on it, especially considering all the money I spent on hardware its a pittance really.

I recon a major expansion or season pass for basic space legs and atmospheric planets. Maybe DLC for Fleet Carriers (player owned capital ships) and bases that can be constructed and managed by players.

We need an official announcement of what's coming in 2019 (3305).

How many hours of game-time did you play before 3.3? I'm pretty new here and had over 600 hours pre-3.3 which makes the game exceptionally good value (thinking of some VR games that are over in a couple of hours - replayable but still very short) even if something was introduced that put me off playing it is still just pennies per hour to play :)

I assume we have different perspectives on 'being robbed' - oh, and it was me who snuck on your ship and stole the ADS :D

Well, again, I find this as an enhancement. And as I said, if you don't feel the same, then I'm sorry for your loss.

Instead of a LOL, perhaps you could provide some constructive criticism in my post concerning the FSS and it's features over the original DSS.

Constructive.. im struggling. I just wanted to be left alone to go exploring. I heard there was going to be ice worlds. :(

Thats ok. I love the old honk. Lets be equals! You have your thing and fdev put the honk back. Is that good with you?

I get your point, but here's mine; for all the 'Honkers'.... it is only one more teeny weeny key/button/trigger to press and EVERYTHING remains as it was......... Hit change mode (to Analysis) then HONNNNKKKKKKKK.... even the rewards for the honk remain the same.

(Absolutely no need to ever enter the FSS...... ever! .... if that's the way you want to play)

I honestly wish it had subscriptions so that the game had sufficient manpower behind it to not be a jungle of bugs. Increased content would be cool too, but holy moly the bugs. Bethesda's bugs are more comical, but I'm not sure they would best FD in sheer plethora of bugs.

Planetside 2 has the most and best bugs. Like the vehicle ejection seat bug, where merely trying to get out will catapult you up and out the side at high velocity, resulting in your death should there be a solid object in your ermmm..."flight path".

I'm sure the devs were trolling, you couldn't make this stuff up by accident.

1st quarter 2019 FDev will release a teaser for the next expansion which will be either space legs or atmospheric landing or my bet both .

The expansion will cost £39.99 and release in parts throughout the year ,first part arriving around April.

My bets on a teaser arriving very soon as in January and the beta starting march.

Speculations are based on the fact they have been working on atmospherics and space legs from day 1.

Atmospherics and space legs would be multi-year DLC. So maybe we can buy each DLC individually or get a season pass for all future DLC.

The most likely endgame is free-to-play. About two-to three years from now.

That depends on how well the game and cosmetics sell in the coming years. They could sell cosmetics for ship interiors and costumes when we have EVA.

Dear OP,

If you do a quick search on the forums, you'll find a post by Zac 'The Don' Antonaci https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/444800-Important-Community-Update which explains that whatever is beyond Beyond (Sorry for the pun), they're already working on it. My concern is the development time for a major update could be quite a while and I'm hoping that E : D doesn't loose the fantastic momentum it's built up after the 3.3 release. Nothing has been announced but we suspect that the next season / DLC will have to be paid for (and also free to LEP owners). It will be Frontier's 25th anniversary in January, so we might announce something around that time. Personally, I hope they stop selling Elite as two packages (base game and Horizons) and that Beyond becomes the base game going forwards (Obviously people who haven't bought Horizons, still can upgrade) to cut down on confusion. If anyone remembers the confusion around the Horizon's release.

As far as Frontier being a business first, all game companies have to be a business first because if they make a game that doesn't make money, chances are they won't be able to make any more games. That means they can only develop what they can afford, Frontier appear to be careful with what they commit to and so far it appears to have worked. Feel much better about Frontier's approach compared to that other space game.

I can see several potential expansions that they can go for ;-
  1. Atmospheric Landings - This one I suspect is in development and probably the next logical progression to where the game is at the moment.
  2. Space Legs - This one is probably the most ambitious but the amount of work involved would be vast (look how much trouble the other game has had).
  3. Base Building - If you look at the success that MNS has had with this, it will a challenge to store the location on the servers, could it be a land based version of Fleet Carriers.
  4. Capital Ship Piloting/Fleet Carriers - Although this was announced and then withdrawn for 3.3, I'm still hopeful that we'll get this one day. I would suggest something controversial that you can only fly a Capital Ship in Multicrew. Something like Star Trek's Bridge Crew or Pulsar would be great to play.
  5. Mission Packs - Thanks to leaks, some people suspect that this will be the filler content until the next big DLC is ready. It does run the risk of turning the game a little bit towards a 'theme park' as opposed to it's sandbox but as long as it can't be exploited as a 'Pay to Win', then it they should be fine.

[snip]

I'm sorry "fantastic momentum"?

Can you show me where please?

Because 3.3 still looks like a buggy mess from launch 3 weeks ago, that as far as I can tell hasn't even been patched to fix some of the frankly ridiculous amount of bugs, or even stopped the godawful freezing some people are getting regularly.

There's no momentum going on here mate, none at all - it's been a dead stop since it dropped.

Well we got one last year that turned out to be lies. I doubt they'll change this year ;)
