The Star Citizen Thread V10

I have a few predictions for the new year. *

1. The drive by posters who drop in to tell us how awesome SC is and how much fun they have with their mates (but they didn't get to video any of it because... reasons), will start dropping in again. This time round though they will be telling us what a fantastic time they had playing solo. Still no vids though.

2. As soon as CIG have something they can push out as a (bit of) SQ 42 test, it will be available for download to the faithful, to run on the local PC, no servers needed.

3. The SC servers will be scaled down or switched off altogether (to save money). Either CIG will say something like 'we need more people testing SQ 42 so we are taking SC off line for now' or they will say nothing at all.

4. Ship (or land or house or tank or SOMETHING) sales for SC will continue even though you wont be able to get in to the game at all anymore.

Of course this will all depend on the Crytek case not ending the company or the new 'investors' not closing the whole thing down to asset strip it to make their profit.

* Word of warning. These predictions come to you from the person who predicted CIG would not last out 2018, so what do I know.
Regards the asset stripping, there is also the possibility of whatever tax strategy and needs the investors have at the moment calling for a loss of millions (even if mostly loss on paper).

I don't think there is a lot they could get from an asset sale.

Interesting predictions, always fun to speculate.

CIG has this weird tight rope act where they sell you a game / games but they hide under early access alpha excuse to avoid judgement.

Once they "release" (If ever) anything and the gaming world at large gets a hold of this stuff and starts reviewing its over. Expect a release to end all of this. Its the last thing Roberts wants until he's ready to cash out.

Haven't visited the SC threads in a while. It's still worth an occasional laugh/cry/cringe.
Has anyone curated a "Best of" list of SC failed promises and cringe-worthy moments? I'm thinking a chronological list of links or something like that which would be easy to post as response to over-exuberant posts? Things like the stream of CR sitting down to play SC and failing miserably, devs having played through every SQ42 mission two years ago, pics of "Answer the Call 2016, 2017, 2020", "any more than N years and it's stale", KS video being "actual gameplay" with physics "coded by CR", flight model fallout in 2018, FPS module fail (various partner fails like moon collider AI, where is the AI worked on for years?), "more money means we can deliver more features faster", etc.?

Also, "never done before", "1/6 scale planets bigger than anyone else has done", type comments would be fun to see followed by multiple examples of games that have done it or more.

Maybe the list is basically endless so it would be too long to bother with?

Cheers and happy new year folks, your endurance following this saga is amazing.

I think much of it is enclosed within the hallowed halls of the various iterations of this thread :D

Our good Doog may be able to link to some of the more distilled writeups that consist of purest condensed lulz that the SA peeps have spent time and effort on - it's not a place I visit.

Of course, even the most informed, methodical and salient writeups won't give an absolutely clear picture of the Delivery of the Vision - because one doesn't exist - especially not in Genuine Robert's head.

My standout moment by far, is when The Code Whisperer himself attempted to play his own game on a livestream. Still makes me laugh 3 years later.

If only they had more like Dennis. :D

LOL, thanks for that.

Win at what? Releasing a game? Its amazing, but gaming companies release games all the time. A few seem to struggle with this concept though, CIG among them.

Wise words. Even fans should be skeptical to some extent, although perhaps not to the same extent as some of us ;)

A realist

Ah, one of those... development really only started in XXXX.... but just to hedge his bets....

And that is only the first few posts.

Pure gold.

You should read through the rest of it instead of skimming :)

There are more realists in that one thread than there are fanbois....I've been reading the thread with great interest. As with most things on Spectrum, once the negative vibes continue get more up votes than the cultist drivel, the mods move the thread to a quiet corner of Spectrum where it won't upset them any longer.

To be fair by the time the thread was linked there were mostly mind-gymnastic and fanatical replies to it, it has considerably grown to include the more reasonable voices since ^^

Spectrum always looks like a cultist echo chamber to the casual observer because of the moderation...or rabid censorship... which is a more accurate description. I don't post in there often but when I do, I find my usual tack of confronting the fanboy nonsense directly gets my posts very quickly upvoted to the top...then the entire thread either gets deleted, closed or shifted.

I've not been banned this time around...yet. I guess I'm just not trying hard enough :)

You guys should see the concierge sections of Spectrum. Sometimes it is very, uh, special as far as cultist echo chambers go.
