The Star Citizen Thread V10

You guys should see the concierge sections of Spectrum. Sometimes it is very, uh, special as far as cultist echo chambers go.

To be fair, I don't want to discount the delusional and over the top theorycrafting of aspects of concierge. Those are pretty spectacular as well.

For me, "The Rack Incident" is completely unbeatable.

It's enough to cup your cagenuts.

This is one of my fav SC vids too - someone should set it to the Benny Hill theme. It would go awesomely with their speeded up atv fitting the rack section...

For the uninitiated, please can you enlighten me as to this "incident"? My interest in Star Citizen is purely to laugh/cringe at the incompetence of leadership shown by CRobber.

Latest ATV in case it's not been posted yet:

Main takeaway for me - the focus is clearly on S42 this year ("feature and content complete by the end of the year" - those friendly investors must be driving CI[notG] hard to get it out ASAP for the ROI they're presumably in for) as the majority of stuff for the PU (new planets ArcCorp and Microtech, full persistence, "laying the foundations" for server meshing in 2020) has been pushed to "later" or even the "very end of the year".

Seven years since the Kickstarter, and they still can't figure out how to make persistence work. This is not going to end well.

Quick summary:

Plane.. erm, sorry, spaceship, flying over a cityscape. Looks like GTA5.

Walking around forest scene, never been done before in a game ever.

Kids are wheeled out. Chris doxxes his own children once again, Derek Smart blamed for this.

There were some photos posted up of them working hard racking new servers to allow the pipelines to be fully operational, etc, etc... so they filled up a 42U rack and then found that their Fibre Optic Cables didn't reach the connectors on the switch.

More or less another parable for the whole story so far :)

Depends on what they plan to use their acquisition with. Maybe it's not so much about releasing Star Citizen than having a database of gullible customers to sell to.

Folks, including myself, have been making that semi-joke-but-far-too-much-of-a-possibility on & off for years (and I joined the peanut gallery in v5 of this thread so am by no means an early adopter!).

I'm not quite decided as to whether it'll be either

1) a list of people who will pay a quite frankly daft amount of money on a game pre-order

or

2) a list of people who are now broke and will never spend any money on anything ever again

Either way the IP, assets and engine updates are pretty much useless to any third party.

Yes no surprise here - years 2019 and 2020 now are for Big Evil Publisher SQ42 game

Its interesting in general...while other Publishers are moving from SP games to live services..
So CI(G) now wants to save single Player games not PC gaming anymore...

So is there a new stretch-goal to fund stretching those cables?

Unsurprising. Despite the claims of some, it's clear CIG has run out of money. The whales have been milked dry. The only way they got investment was to convince the guy that there's life in SQ42 and a console release (I seriously doubt there is, the property is toxic now). That investor wants their money back asap and SC's development future relies entirely on that fantasy passing.

Apologies if this has already been posted: I do not read every page of this thread. But I found this rant entertaining.

"The difference between Chris Roberts and a snake oil salesman is a snake oil salesman has snake oil".

Haven't visited the SC threads in a while. It's still worth an occasional laugh/cry/cringe.
Has anyone curated a "Best of" list of SC failed promises and cringe-worthy moments? I'm thinking a chronological list of links or something like that which would be easy to post as response to over-exuberant posts? Things like the stream of CR sitting down to play SC and failing miserably, devs having played through every SQ42 mission two years ago, pics of "Answer the Call 2016, 2017, 2020", "any more than N years and it's stale", KS video being "actual gameplay" with physics "coded by CR", flight model fallout in 2018, FPS module fail (various partner fails like moon collider AI, where is the AI worked on for years?), "more money means we can deliver more features faster", etc.?

Also, "never done before", "1/6 scale planets bigger than anyone else has done", type comments would be fun to see followed by multiple examples of games that have done it or more.

Maybe the list is basically endless so it would be too long to bother with?

Cheers and happy new year folks, your endurance following this saga is amazing.

Not really a list, but over on Something Awful they do have a few threads with titles like "Star Citizen Thread Recap", "A historical catalog of Star Citizen drama" or "Star Citizen Daily Release Checker".
Although the last one consists mainly of members posting the date followed by the word "No" :D.

There is also the main SC thread who's title changes depending on whatever is "FUN" in the SC world. Reddit posters are the main source for this. :) This is my go to for SC "news". *Well worth the $10 to join.

And there is always Derek.

Happy new year to you too.

*Not for the easily offended. ;)

For some reason i got an "high admiral" golden gun reward out of nowhere (just like that, didnt do anything special or buy anything). Is it for early backers ? i am quite far from the money that needs to be wasted on this in order to get concierge or admiral rewards..

You're SC persistence incarnated in flesh. That much is clear. Your appearance in this time of doubt is like a divine sign that fortifies my star-civic resolution. (+10 shilling power)

Own up! You've spent a grand. ;) If you haven't, prepare to have it ripped from your fingers by agents from RSI who should be knocking on your door shortly.

Here is the official description about what you don't deserve to own.

Arclight II Laser Pistol Executive Edition: The pistol you wear on your hip is more than a mere tool, it is a statement, and the Executive Edition of Klaus & Werner’s famous Arclight II laser pistol might just be one of the boldest you can make. Gold inlay and detailing highlights the elegant design of this dependable sidearm that has graced the holsters of movie stars and Advocacy Agents alike who prefer this weapon for its fast rate of fire and reliable accuracy.

Reading that, I would be expecting a real gun to turn up.

Well i definitely didnt spend a grand... also this showed up right in the middle of nowhere, just like one of those timed rewards. Not that i care :D I am still waiting for a semi-decent flight model in order to try it properly.
