I'd love to see a backer video showing the joy of attempting to sell 10,000 units of a commodity at the market.

Can see that the forest playfight could be fun. Are there any balancing aspects to the gunfire visibility? (Like do all guns have visible tracers etc? And if not are there any downsides to ones that don't?)

Not hugely sold on the other vids though. Taking down non-resisting opponents ain't that compelling ;). (Are there bots at the location in the 2nd vid? Have seen some of the AI act like that at times. And what was up with that player ship? Had he fought back at any point? Was he disabled in some way, or just disconnected or something?)

His dispassionate professionalism has never been in doubt. Good to know he's in there doing research...

Some of the guns are laser rifles, so those arent tracers. I use the gun I use because of the sights on the gun. Can't stand most of the sights on the other guns.

The biggest ship in the game right now only holds 576 units of cargo.
Not "units" then, whatever it is I've seen streamers struggling to sell but the market only allows a very small number per sale. So they sell a small number repeatedly, over and over. Fun!

If the $200m game is so much fun and works so well, how come neither Chris or Erin Roberts or any of their 500 staff have ever gone on stream and played it in 6+ years of hundreds of marketing videos?

Ed and the guys jump on stream with 'hot builds' all the time. CIG can't do this with their whole international company, hundreds of staff and AAA budget?

What's the problem? Are they embarrassed by it? Too afraid of having fun?

As one Arma fan to another, and a Star Citizen backer, with absolutely no malice or offence intended... but seriously, Star Citizen is by any reasonable metric an awful game. Just think - 7 years and 200 million dollars... again, 200 million dollars in pledges and Sovapid's vids represent the pinnacle of PC gaming? 200 MILLION DOLLARS and this is the result? A sub-par no clip asset viewer set in a cliched Roman Empire vs Vandals universe?

It's no wonder they're 100% focused on getting S42 out this year, to meet the financial requirements of the new investors - if they had to rely on the PU they'd be out of business in a year.

Yeah I couldn't tell on phone if the kinectic / normal rifles had visible tracer or if it was only the energy weapons that were lighting up. Night squabbles would seem to need them all to advertise your position (or some rock/paper downside like noise / range or whatever).

But seriously, did that ship ever fight back? ;)

No, no. The dude that sued CIG in small claims court.

Hah fair play :D

Yes! If you kill 100 people but save 1 child that does not make you a saint!
What what you say, someone was killed? No, I was using a gross overexaggeration to get across the extreme excess that this 'game' is generating. They [CIG] get credit for being so innovative and have 'created' so much 'new' and 'innovative' tech that they have 'revolutionized' gaming - you just go and read the comment section on SC youtube videos and you will get the gist of where I am going.

I'm a great proponent of mods and how they have elevated my enjoyment of a game with very small means, but those mods have catered to my specific ideas of fun and what I need; they are just a few scripts based around a Real Game that has hundred of thousands lines of code and content, the mod would be nothing without the Game.
So having enjoyment of SC says nothing about the company or how Chris Roberts manages this whole 'thing' whatever it is supposed to become in the end - his new production and way into making films again?
It is in all that matters a sunk cost fallacy!

I completely missed this when it came out a couple of weeks back. A two hour chat between Tony from Guard Frequency and Derek Smart about CIG financials. If you wind forward to the last five minutes, the conclusions are that:

1) Tony reckons backers will be invited to buy shares in CIG.
2) Neither Tony nor Derek believe that there's much chance of Star Citizen ever being fully released.
3) Derek reckons theres an 80% chance that Squadron 42 will be released by the end of 2020.

It's a long discussion, but it's all about facts, with no mud-slinging. I have no idea why they didn't put it out as a podcast.

Its quite astonishing. When he isnt raging on his twitter feed Derek is actually very interesting to listen to, behaving civil and refraining from hyperbole sharing insights into his knowledge and past experiences. By now most interview with him repeat 80% of stuff that I already know but still....thanks for the link
