Killed by Blocked player

Minding my own business in Open, I just got ram-murdered by a certain player. OK, so that's how they want to be, fine, so I blocked them.

I reload - and WHAM - insta-killed by the SAME PLAYER.

If they are blocked, how did they end up back in the same instance as me?

Anyone from FD care to comment?

Logs and EDD records available.

While I'm here, what on earth does 79% hull damage, totally destroy FSD & Thrusters of a Beluga in one shot? Anyone from FD care to investigate? 'Cause that's that my log shows.

Happy to be enlightened about the one-shot insta-kill weapon too; if it's legit I'm getting one.

Blocking prevents comms and discourages instancing.

Discouraging instancing is not the same as preventing it - depending on who else was in the instance, the game may have prioritised instancing you with them over not instancing you with the blocked player. There are a lot of different factors - wings, friends, squadrons, people you've seen recently - as well as blocking.

To reliably guarantee a lack of instancing you need to use Solo (or a PG they aren't in).

(I'm not completely clear on the actual order of events, but it also obviously won't affect instancing if you were already in the same instance when you blocked them, until one of you changes instances)

Only way you can truly block a player is by going private or solo. All the bloack function does is block comms & attempt to keep you in diffident instances

I think this was explained by FDev to be technically possible under certain circumstances. For instance, if you are instanced with a friend also, who has said rammer not on his blocklist.

Ok, I didn't realise the subtleties of how Blocking works. Solo / group it is then if this kind of firepower is now common.

Engineered Frags or Plasma Accelerators will do damage like that if you don't have much armour. What's your build like? Lightweight alloys hull by any chance?

As stated, blocking applies a weight to instancing, not an absolute prohibition. It's effects are often unpredictable.

Regarding the damage done to your Beluga, a volley of PAs, cannon, or fragment cannon, or torpedoes can easily do what you describe to a lightly Engineered beluga.

Engineered lightweight alloys - grade 5 Heavy Duty. So not standard LWA. It could only have been frags - extremely short range - likely sitting directly above & behind the pad as it raised into position - so absolutely no chance to see them. Brave brave sir robin...etc. It was at an Engineer's base too - are they anarchy / no security?

Only frags or ramming can do the kind of damage you describe. Frags are very strong at point blank range and you can fire three shots as fast as you can pull the trigger. I can do a 2000hp burst from my gunship with 7 frags. It is useless in any real engagement though, the person who did this to you was outfitted for trolling, exclusively, unfortunately.

What ship was the other player in? A ram from a large ship and then a full blast at point blank from plasma or frags will ruin any ones day if they arnt redy for it.

I dont like vindictive blocking and im glad it didnt stop you two from being instanced. but i simpathise with your loss none the less

Several things effect the functionality of the Block feature.

For a start, if they have a friend in your instance then they can also join your instance - the MM likes to keep friends together.
Do you have any shared friends? Do you accept random friend invites or have a massive friends list? As this will also open up who can join your instances.
Again, for the same reason. If the attacker is a friend to one of your friends, then the MM will override the block to keep friends together.

If someone is bothering you, your best response it to swap modes until you are out of the area.

what? frags are useless in real engagements? lol

Common? How long have you played for and how many times has this happened to you? I've played from nigh near day 1 and have only been "ganked" 2 - 3 times... I fly in populated space 90% of the time as well.

FYI, if he was with friends and you didn't block THEM as well, you may instance with THEM (and he'll be with THEM). EDIT: Ninja'd by Jockey79

Also, going to ANY engineer base - SOLO ONLY. Period. No exceptions.

That is so damn unlucky.

But then as a positive it's very, very lucky you actually got in an instance with someone without the server booting you out in an instant.

Same for me too; but the chances of getting unpleasantly surprised are fairly high at an Engi base whether it's happened to either of us personally or not. I always watch every hollow on my way in and out when I'm kitting up at an Engi base. It's like a watering hole on the savannah, the risk is always there.

Huh? I envision plenty of engagements where that setup is extremely useful. Eyeing my gunship with renewed interest

It's super effective against whales actually. Take the gunship if you're going to use the fighter, otherwise try a challegner, still got 7 hardpoints, with better convergence and much better than the gunship in every other way too, except weight. Very small dps discrepancy, equivalent of 1/3 of a small hardpoint difference.

We're having a bit of a gunship revival in the squadron lately, Camisade is sorting his out. Mine is currently in dakka mode and UNDEFEATED! MWAHAHAHA. lol.

Granted it's been a while since I used my Challenger so perhaps it's improved, but in my experience the Challenger has an Achilles Heal right above it's nose in the form of a windscreen that is apparently made from tissue paper. A properly built Gunship should crush it 1v1.
