If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

and it's become another trainwreck...

i suspect the mods will be tossing this mess of a thread in the dumpster fire soon.

Personally I'm looking forward to the ADS being reinstated so we can move on to arguing about whether retroactively populating the Codex with the millions of pre-3.3 player discoveries would be a waste of time or a nod to those that had discovered most of this stuff already.

It's still a mature discussion, relative to where the last threadnaught ended up, so we've probably got a few more pages of bickering left in this one.

Of course, if it does get modded out of existence somebody will be along with another one soon enough. The issue isn't going to go away without some input from FDev - and probably not even then.

I just need to keep taking part in them so as to recuse myself and avoid modding. Yeah, that's the ticket....

Why should they input to this thread when you have stated you wont accept a NO, it's pointless for them.

As I said in a earlier thread , they have already said 'no' several times in beta and in the livestreams but you just won't accept the answer, what else can they do except ignore further complaints.

Well how about this: reinstate the ADS, but if you equip one it disables the FSS? :D

Then I'll still want an "instantly explode targetted NPC" button so that I can do assassination missions without messing about with weapons and fire groups.

There has been no communication on this topic since the FSS became an integrated component. Personally I'd accept just putting the modules back into outfitting & letting the players 'discover' them for themselves ;)

You mean like an "instantly explore distant planet" button so that you can get first discovered tags without messing around with flying a spaceship?

You do realize that we're asking for the ability to make the game HARDER for ourselves, by doing away with the long-range scanning functionality?
Most, if not all, of us don't even want the planet types displayed on the original honk - just the ability to target them and fly to them.

I've never said I wouldn't accept a 'No'.

All the comments by FDev were prior to the actual release of the software. I don't believe it's unreasonable to ask them to confirm that they have no plans to reinstate the ADS in any format, now that the playerbase as a whole (ie, not just PC players) have had a chance to experience the system.

Well your choice and your decision, hope you enjoy X4
My point is that even a broken mess of a game is better than the kitsch Frontier have delivered in the form of the FSS and space golf - that is saying ALOT about how bad their decision was.

[EDIT]FTR it has not been my choice nor decision - it was made for me by Frontier and I am pretty livid over it. I expressed my concerns during the Beta - they were largely ignored.[/EDIT]

I'd very much like the ADS to reveal less information than it did - mass and temperature is all I want.
However, if I take the trouble to fly to a body to resolve it, rather than sitting still and playing a minigame, I think it's reasonable that I get credits and tags.
Basically, please don't force me to use the FSS - just let me fly around in my old, boring manner.

Yup I agree 100% sorry I wasn't clear on that! Yeah the functionality of the FSS should be mirrored by the old way of flying up to the planet as well! :) Personally I hated that with a vengeance (also not keen on probes) but if people like it then I say fair play and let them do it that way!

For those of you who prefer the old system of honk, select a planet, and fly to it for a detailed scan, can't you still do that?

You can honk in the Analysis HUD without having to go into FSS mode. This populates the navigation pane with unexplored locations as well as the system map. Select a target, fly near it, and you get the detailed discovery - you don't even have to be pointed directly at the target and have it selected. Nor do you have to wait for the DSS to process the results (which was annoying even with a G5 fast scan engineered DSS).

I have this happen to me all the time. Fly into "unexplored" system, do a honk, and the star(s)/asteroids nearby auto-resolve.

I personally love the new system. Now you can scan planets from a distance, which is more convenient and makes more sense (for the time period). You still have to fly close to the targets to do the mapping with probes.

Honestly, I just don't get the complaining on this one. However, as long as they keep the new system, feel free to keep complaining. [big grin]

And for those who might be leaving for X4, or other games, will you be leaving the forums too? That would be great. [noob]

I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned before, but...

In unexplored systems the honk does NOT populate the Nav Panel.
You only get items in the Nav Panel if someone else has already visited the system - and then only the ones they've discovered.

I think people are just trolling me now.

Nope, not trolling you. Only unexplored systems I've dealt with so far since 3.3 are the ones in the bubble. I haven't gone out into the "unknown" yet. Will do that with Distant Worlds 2 Expedition.

So do you also not get the system map from a honk? I could've sworn the Devs said you would get that from the honk.

Anyway, I'm all for them making changes so the truly unexplored systems work in the same way as what I listed above, so those who preferred the old system can still do it that way. That doesn't seem like it should cause any issues. If you want to fly all the way out to somewhere near the target to explore it, I don't see why that should be prevented. As long as the rest of us can still use the FSS for quick scanning, and the DSS for detailed mapping. I had never seen a single geological feature before this update. Now I'm finding them on planets all over in the bubble.

Not a fan of "Mark 1 Eyeball" type of scanning.;)

Nope, no more jump-honk out in deep space. That's the source of (almost) all the complaints.

Nobody (seriously) wants the FSS to go away - just the option not to have to use it outside the Bubble.

The DSS is definitely an improvement, no argument there. If I'm picky I'd say it's a little over-powered, but it's still way better than eyeballing.
