What if Thargoids were playable?

I didn't see any topics like this, so forgive me if it's been brought up a million times.

If we were all given a second profile slot per account for the purpose of making a Thargoid pilot, how cool would that be?

Imagine that there were a Thargoid equivalent of The Bubble somewhere. Imagine stations or "Mother ships " they/we could use. Imagine Thargoid factions controlled by players attacking stations and megaships instead of a server tick doing it automatically. A whole new kind of pvp. Crazy Thargoid engineering, the works.

I would like to see an expansion that includes all that someday. Sorry again if this is like the millionth topic about it, like I said I didn't see any.

Think how difficult this would be. The Thargoids are alien and therefore act in a manner that is alien to humans. Having humans play at being Thargoids would be nonsense. Do the Thargpids have factions? Do the thargoids even understand the human concept of factions? Do they understand the concept of an inhabited bubble?

And so on.

Yeah, I would like to put my hands into flying thargoid ships, those look different in control. And doing missions like "Resque 10 sensors from monkey ships"...

It has been mentioned a good while back.

The only way I thought it could work is if the human players could port into a limited few types of Thargoid ships for specific scenario based activity, much like CQC. Strictly no Thargoid ownership, engineering or the like.

Hmm...

You know, I could see Thargoid SLFs. Based on Thargons perhaps?

I hope this doesn't come across as harsh OP, but basically this amounts to saying "How cool would it be if we didn't have Aliens and had re-skinned humans instead?!" which unfortunately also amounts to "How cool would it be if we just had the same old, same old in this game?!"

Don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from, and in one sense, what you're suggesting would be cool. In another sense though (and one particularly pertinent to this game) it would be very uncool.

I would much rather FD stuck to their guns and continued to do them as Aliens.

So, sorry, but it's a no from me.

(Just to be clear though, this is about players playing as aliens. Players playing as humans who have access to alien tech is a different matter. The latter does of course have it's own considerable issues, as it relies on other players not having access to that tech, which would be very unlikely to go down well with the people who aren't given that access.)

There's a few downsides to playing as a Thargoid:

Surgery is required to modify your body to breath ammonia.
Surgery is required to modify your body to provide for an exo-skeleton.
Surgery is required to add two limbs to the middle of your body.
Surgery is required to modify your stomach to assimilate whatever they eat.

Just one more thing: Mating with the hive queen is not optional and normally ends the same way that it does with the preying mantis. Please ensure your things are in order at all times as she can be quite random in her choice of mates. Don't forget to brush your mandible and mouth parts before mating or you'll never make it past the first stage of approach. The queen doesn't appreciate things stuck in your mouth parts.

Enjoy.

Well, there would only be two factions right? The evil thargoids and the little bit less evil thargoids. I would suppose they would be vying for territory similarly to the way ant colonies do when they get to close to each other. There could be a mission system that revolves around Thargoid behavior. For instance, there could be a mission to investigate destroyed armadas. You would send a thargpulse into the area and investigate any points of interest on the damaged ships to learn of their destruction and accomplish the mission. There could be a mission to just show up to a destroyed armada to collect human escape pods that you sell at thargbases for science/consumption. There could be one where you defend an attack by the more evil thargoids on the humans because you have similar thargnology and can detect where they are attacking and for whatever reason, you want to help humans. There could be missions to attack stations or mega ships. You could also be tasked with probing human ships that come to the area of your missions for extra credoids.

I know it will never happen, but with enough creativity, I think it could be done in a manner that preserves the spirit of thargoid behavior.

I do agree, the Thargoids should not be made relateable.
But there are a lot of escape pods in the hands of the Thargoids (if not already "processed"), the next best thing would be a kind of Thargoid sympathisers who return under mysterious circumstances and are driven to appear in certain systems (mission markers). Working for the Thargoids without understanding the intentions (and more often than not probably just a distraction). Should they have hybrid-ships? The special Thargoid drives? I don't think so. But almost everything I just wrote could be roleplayed already.

I've only played Elder Scrolls 3,4,5 but as I understand it, players really begged for the ability to play as an Ork, a character that was not originally playable, correct?

Can I nominate Cher as our first ambassador to the Thargoid people?

Hey, sure, why not. :)

She kind of looks like one, so I'm all for it.

Problem is, people would still complain. Being a thargoid is too grindy.. it takes too long to move from a scout to an interceptor...

We'd need a whole new form of currency to buy, rebuy and outfit our thargoid ships. Thargoid engineers would require more and even harder to find materials....

I just can't see any good coming out of it.

What if Thargoids were milkable?

Can you milk a cat?

On a more curious note: COL 70 sector is blocked. Possibility: that's where they live. One day (possibly a DLC maybe???) we can go there with cargo-holds full of ammonia and other "odd" things that they might want, and trade with them at their new bases orbiting certain planets.

Trade with them as long as you've never shot one before. Otherwise, they'll know. They always know. I heard they can read minds.

Hmmm maybe. If Xenos and humans ever allied and it was this MAss Effect-like universe of multi-species coexistence. Otherwise I'd just rather fly their ships as a human. More than anything I want a full-on Guardian ship. I know it's coming. When the Guardian update released people were collecting Guardian Vessel blue prints, but then they were immediately taken out of the game. Hmmm
