It has really depreciated the value of the title 'Elite'. I mean, you can be Elite now in an afternoon.

It's like people didn't even watch Star Wars. Han Solo wasn't a pirate per se, but he was the master of running away; he just always looked cool when doing it so it's easy to forget.
This thread is about PVP piracy tho, not NPCs![]()
This would suggest people are dropping at the centre of the hotspot rather than some place safe, e.g. 4Mm away
If jettisoned...they go boom yet still make a hefty profit
Miners can earn a decent living from them.
Pirates can earn a decent living from attacking and looting the miners.
Miners get into combat defending their ships.
Much fun can be had defending miners from pirates.
Pirates fight amongst each other for control of station systems that pay well as they know miners will come a-calling.
Cmdr’s fight the pirates at these systems.
All because of Void Opals.
I’m not sure if it was intentional or an unforeseen trickle-down due to void opals selling at high prices, but it’s an amazing shot in the arm for the game. Keep it up and DO NOT NERF IT!
I just tried to kill a wanted pirate attacking commanders in the LHS 5287 system and they just kept running then logged out. criminals are cowards. they will gladly attack defenseless mining ships but run like scaredy cats when the law comes poking around.

The titles never were really worth much IMO,
a glorified boy scout sticker.
Keeping yourself from advancing however,
by non-lethal piracy yields no sticker.

Alright, let's be real, Elite ranks mean almost nothing. Didn't then, don't now.
Exploration. If you can honk and jump, you can be an Elite explorer. You don't have to go to Beagle Point, just fly around honking and jumping and scanning.
Trade. If you can sell stuff for profit, you can be an Elite trader. Just buy low and sell high.
Combat. Grind out NPCs in the RES or CZ. Get yourself some ridiculous DPS weapons and vaporize elite NPCs until you get the gold star.
CQC is probably another story. Never played it, will leave it out of the discussion.
The only true factor in Elite ranking for the former three was time. Why are people so hung up on them?
the main reason people used to combat log, was because if they didnt, the rebuy would mean they have to spend 10 hours or so just get back to where they were, now with void opals etc, its not as bad if your attacked and even can be fun, when you know you wont have to spend 10 hours just get back to where you started the encounter. i for one am now in open all the time, if i die, its not nice, but it doesnt make me want to quit the game like it used too.
Slightly off topic perhaps, but whenever I read 'emergent gameplay' I always take it to mean that the game in question has little or no actual content, excepting lots of different pieces of wood for players to beat each other around the head with in the name of fun.
It's also a term that receives an instant 'no buy' award from me. Each to their own of course.
I've never combat logged, and been killed plenty of times. Who know, one day I may even stop playing in solo.

I'm honestly surprised anyone goes Open to do their Void Opal Mining.
