If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

The same seven as now.
A tad harsh with the feedback I've read

The fact that virtually none of those who want parts or all of the ADS back into the game seem to accept an "XOR" compromise - in form of the original ADS module suppressing all of the FSS functionality when fitted into the ship - is telling volumes by undermining any potential credibility and honesty. It's basically saying "hey, the FSS is kinda cool and all but we want it all!", while happily ignoring all concerns about consistency and coherency of the game. It's an absolute destructive stance that deserves no further accommodating, plain and simple. :|

Not quite sure what you said there but if you read back i have stated that it would be something like heaven to be able to plug in an ADS that totally disables the FSS and everything it does. Any gaps to be filled by flying up close.

And I even said, multiple times, that I would glady part away with the entire content of season 3 if that was the price for getting rid of the "point at marked circles" every single jump.

Speaking of, if I "ignore this thread", does that mean it will never again show up in my Activity Stream? The best way for me to not eat cookies is to keep them out of the house.

No way, you need to bang on constantly and everywhere about your personal bugbear for at least three years to stand out from the crowd here.

So far this is small beer.

Small beer perhaps but it's nice to see you, Skippy, Stuart (muted), PicCommander (muted), OldDuck (muted) and Indigo devote some of your time on the forums to keep those ADS exiles company.

It's that kind of community spirit that keeps me coming back.

That would also get rid of Elephant Butt Leather..... I'll tell you what, let's take it all the way back to 2.3 (my woes started with 2.4), and you've got a deal! Just let me keep my engineered modules.

That is new to me. Because this idea, originally introduced by Ziljan, has already been extensively discussed, while I can't recall anyone of those who are unhappy with the current situation saying "yeah, that's it, let's make it so". Feel free and prove me wrong with just one single example. Then come back and tell me more of that tosh about claiming a 'morale high ground'. But maybe you're actually the only one that can accept this compromise and wasn't there at this point of the discussion. Personally, I would be perfectly ok with this solution.

It's 'moral', not 'morale'.

Still trying to find my own posts. The downside to all this posting is that my activity feed doesn't go back far enough.

[Edit]

"Ziljian's solution of an option to fit either the old scanners or the new ones is the only one I've seen that allows me to explore in a manner that I find enjoyable."

I'm eager to hear more about that from "the rest of us". :D

Well that part has been answered.

That would bring the beigening back. No deal! :D

edit: just remembered the fix for the beigening was in 3.0, not 2.4... In that case I amend my previous statement, I would glady throw away the entirety of season 3 except the beigening fix in 3.0, in order to make the blue ball pointing begone.

How about this:
Honk shows you all the bodies in wireframe (inc brand new systems)
FSS gives you textures and 'Anomaly detected' on planets and in system (space anomalies clarify in the FSS)
Fly to planet to do DSS to get specifics, waypoints and etc...

All the solutions I've read seem overly complicated (on both sides), this wouldn't satisfy everyone, that's an impossible task but as I recall originally the honk was only going to do that anyway so it would be honouring the spirit of the honk whilst still making the FSS an integral part of scanning a system.
Fdev, like to weigh in?

And now you are trying to get me on spelling subtleties? Do I really need to mention that I'm no native speaker? Or are you fallen that low to just defend your point.

I know about this statement:

But what has it to do with the aforementioned XOR proposal? It's something entirely different.

Huh? [where is it]

My apologies for the spelling comment - it was a cheap shot.

I've updated my post with a link showing my support of Ziljian's suggestion, from back in the reveal thread.

The link to Blackcompany's post, as I stated in my original response to your XOR post, shows that the ADS supporters are prepared to accept almost ANY limitation, if it allows us to explore the way that we want to.

I'm glad you've come around to the idea that a compromise is possible.
