All penalties are a loss to you and your team. You're only hurting yourselves if you dont fight for them.
Thats the point of wars and powerplay.
So, it's a 100% unnecessary change/feature then. If I choose to retreat (whethervboost, wake, log) than I am no longer there and you can carry on killing the NPCs until you win. Same result, you've driven me away, you win.

But you also wouldn't be fighting at all. You wouldn't be risking anything if you could just leave. You wouldn't be working a conflict zone or powerplay zone. You would just leave. You really wouldnt lose anything personally either. Rebuys need a purpose.
If there is no reason for you to stay in them, people still wouldnt use half the modules and tools available in the game. Nor strive to change builds or work together because it wouldn't be needed.
There are enough options in this game to nope out of things as it is.

The irony of the idea as well is that it if you're not allowed to wake out of a CZ, this would also encourage combat logging, which seems to be something that most people who push for 'open only' have a big problem with.
And why does this matter to you? If Ethaidan or anyone else leaves, or does not take part, or whatever... It changes nothing to you, except maybe makes your life a teeny bit easier. Certainly not much since I doubt many here would be any threat to your ships. All that changes is that you get one fewer player kills, a little less salt for the mill. You still win the battle either way.

They also dont get to turn in those merits they earned. Which is the whole point of winning and losing. Its not just about combat zones. This has everything to do with macro and micro gameplay.
Which proves my earlier point that this is just another Open Only thread by stealth. The hotel is indeed healthy.
