Absolutely. That post also shows how it all ties together:
the FSS, probes, the new lightning, new stuff to find: it all connects into an awesome explo experience. Still hanging around in Colonia, ships are being transferred and then I'll be doing a series of smaller expeditions around these parts in small ships, waiting to see where DWE2 goes.
I'd be happy to agree with that, including that "it all connects into an awesome explo experience" except for the FSS mechanic itself, which completely ruins the whole experience for me. And this is further feedback to let FDev know.
I'm on record to say that the
results of the FSS are great - the POIs, the USSs, the remote discovery results, etc. Well done FDev on all of that!
But the hunt-the-blue-blob UX is atrocious, and I don't particularly feel like pulling punches to soften my words.
How is a 1950's underpowered servo-motor driven "telescope" in any way believable? The ultra slow pan and line up the circles mini-game has been designed by FDev to create busywork. They believe explorers need to use fine motor skills. Surely exploring should be treated as a more intellectual pursuit, rather than tedious hand-eye coordination.
A spreadsheet with clickable links for every blue blob would have been better. At least we could have accessed the data faster.
So FDev, my feedback is that just about everything about the latest update was great, except for the unnecessarily slow blue blob mini-game. Assuming the FSS view won't change, some of my suggestions are:
1. Blue blob display should be persistent (of course),
2. Allow configurable pan speed, eg. up to 120 degrees per second,
3. Allow instant switching between hemispheres or octants (since there has to be at least two "telescopes" on any ship anyway),
4. Allow point-and-click just like many other places in the game,
5. (my preferred) Use the orrery view instead, with blue blobs on the orrery clickable (been suggested many times by myself and others).
