Is it weird that I'm not excited about season 4?

Given that nothing has been said about season four the content is only what you speculate and imagine it to be or not to be, so nothing anyone should get excited about.

Otherwise it would just be hyping your own wish list which will always end in disappointment.

The way to tell the future is to look to the past. What have we gotten in the past? That's what we'll get in the future.

I find it hard to be excited about a add on to a game I sort of fell out with some time ago, add to that nothing thats been added has made me want to play again because underneath it all its still the same game that I stopped playing.

So unless season 4 is a game changer or adds somthing that for me at least that has that wow factor. Then no.

The problem. Is one man's wine is another's vinegar. The reason I personally am not playing right now is the main reason a lot of people are claiming they are enjoying the game again (void opals or what ever they are called)

If it wasn't for Void Opals I doubt I'd be mining or even playing the game at all, am just building up the credits in the vain hope something better is coming worth spending them on.

The new exploration tools really excited me, for a time. I've recently tried some of the other new things, and also have gone back to some old things, and I'm so sadly disappointed... The bugs (at least on my platform) are just horrendous. I'm sure some of the newer ones will be fixed in an upcoming patch, but others have been there for years. Combat with NPCs has completely lost its appeal to me, thanks to bad AI and engineered NPC ships. Mining, even the old-school which I used to enjoy, also on the scrap heap thanks to design flaws. The new scenarios were cool at first, but similar to rescuing people from burning stations, once the novelty wears off, so does the enjoyment. "Really, you ran out of gas, again? I'm still waiting for that song!" And then there is the new lighting system, which makes some things look better, and other things far worse..

I could go on, but you get the point. Exploration is the only thing in the game holding my attention, but when I'm not in the mood to explorer, instead of doing something else in the game, I'll just be playing a different game. Now if the Season 4 (if there is one) announcement is for atmospheric worlds or space legs, then I might get excited, at least for a little while, but that excitement will be tempered by the thought of, "I wonder how they will screw this update up?"

Not excited no simply because other than the fact they are working on new stuff I have no idea what that will be.

I'll save any excitement for when those details are revealed.

The conspiracy theorist in me noted that never once did that important dude say "Elite: Dangerous".

He might have been talking about a forthcoming "season 1"

The conspiracy theorist in you conveniently missed all the references to it being an ED expansion then ;)

However, as we went through the early stages of what the next era for Elite Dangerous would be...

The future content that has started in production is a whole new era/chapter/milestone in Elite. Much like Horizons was and like Beyond was/is.

Yeah after reareading those links in their original context I'm even more suspicious.
All I saw was "era" "chapter" "milestone" and "landmark" For Elite. Didn't see anything about an Update or an Expansion to Elite : Dangerous, or anything about a Season. Language was way too cagey and weird.

Ok, you are correct. This is very conspiratorial. It's like aliens just came down and moved your goalposts...

If this helps: They didn't call it a Season because they're not using the Season format any more.

They did say that the new format, whatever the hell it is, would be 'much like' the recent expansions Horizons and Beyond.

But however, I suspect you are correct, and what they are in fact talking about is something that is in no way a paid expansion for the Elite Dangerous game. Hell no. Where's that crazy talk coming from?

To be fair, the language was odd at the time, and was noted as such. I'm pretty sure the question was even asked at the time, in the thread where questions were being answered.

Me? I suspect it was just non-committal language about something not set in stone yet.

The possibility remains it's a rework as well as an expansion - address some of the inevitable technical debt built up over 6 years to enable them to more easily add the features we all want. A rework of the code beyond just adding a new expansion would also tie in with the reasoning for postponing the ice planet rework, for example.

Well for us BGS players 3.3 has only been released in Beta form. Its so damn broken that we cant assess 3.3 yet let alone look forward to 4.

From the Planet Coaster twitter today:
To celebrate Frontier's 25th anniversary, tomorrow is the start of Coaster week and we're bringing you all on the ride! Throughout the week, we will be celebrating and will be ending the week with a special stream on Friday! Keep an eye out for how to join us in the festivities!

So ... Dino Week the week after, and Elite Week starting the 28th?

Yeah totally agree :). I just find people staring into the tea leaves and seeing dancing chicken guts kinda amusing, so was prodding him ;)

I see it as them not having settled on a format too. My suspicion is that they're trying to see how much they can get done in a certain time frame, and will settle on a delivery system as they get closer to it. (I'm thinking their end of financial year is a likely one. IE say it looks like they're not going to have a meaty product by May, they might opt to deliver a series of smaller DLC, all paid for upfront. But if they feel each strand is liable to hit the date they could bundle them for a bigger priced delivery etc - with that being the ideal aim).

All guesswork. But probably more accurate than: "They're abandoning ED and launching Chicken Little 7!" :D
