Hellmode

You wouldn't believe what happened to me. There I was heading to my home station in my Mamba but being a little more cautious because there is a CG going on there. Next thing this idiot starts bombarding me with stupid messages about what side I am on - heck I'm not even participating in the CG I just want to get home. Next thing this ganker just opens up on me, next thing I am seeing is the rebuy screen.

You also left out the part where you were a ganker.

A mamba with extra pip exploit in CG is almost certainly 100% a ram oriented ganker running frags or beams. This one had beams. No good reason to bring a mamba to a combat CG for PvE when you can just bring a vette. Mamba isn't even fun to fly except maybe in races.

The more I think about it, the more I realized I probably actually interdicted a ganker who didn't realize he was in over his head. That's why he fought despite not being very good, he was used to seal clubbing and didn't know what to make of the encounter with a rare ship running a quirky build and a pilot who knew how to evade rams.

So you should be thanking me for removing one of these monsters from the system. I will accept thanks in the form of Lavian Brandy.

Does this make me the new crime and punishment system all you guys need?

Nah I never had a crew, did once about 12 months ago but found out I was paying the lazy sod even when I was in a single ship. Yep you got that wrong :D

And I have never ganked anyone in my entire career, I was just flying my Mamba home after a bit of bounty hunting at a nearby Res - oh and before you assume something else, I was clean, no bounties on this little vegemite.

So you just assume that if a ship has more than one seat then the Commander automatically has NPC crew and is therefore umm cheating with the extra pip - how umm forthright you are in your assumptions.

See I can role play too, but in my version you are the ganker aggressor :D

You're making it all up. You saw my post, made a little parody, and are doing a little two step here. Yours is forum role play. Mine was in game role play that actually happened, and i supplied a video link, and here's a little screencap cherry on top.

The idea you're asking me to entertain is that some rando in a thread just happens to have had a nearly identical encounter to the one I described in a quickly deleted post - and he responds within the 3 minute window required before I delete the post - with a story identical in all ways except certain facts omitted to mirror my encounter but paint the non-mamba (me) as a ganker. All in a ship that was just recently released game content.

Sure, and let me buy that bridge you're selling.

If your story was true, which it isn't, then that's even worse. How on earth did you fail to escape in a mamba? The ship that can escape without even waking. If you're going to stick with that story you're certainly not qualified to talk about anything remotely connected to open play or PvP. The only reason to admit such an encounter would be to ask gracious helpful skilled pilots for pointers on how you failed to outrun a ship whose top speed is ~100m/s less than yours.

Re multicrew, no, not more than one seat. Seats listed as both occupied on a specialized combat role vessel that doesn't carry an slf. It a common and garbage tactic used by gankers and PvP desperadoes. See pic and note 2/2

Yep, you have me, I made a parody of your little tale of woe (which no one can now see since you 'edited' it out - how convenient lol). And it seems I have upset you, my bad :(, all I did was to show the inane nature of assumption on your part.

As for your preoccupation that any ship that has two crew is evil, I would bet there are a lot of commanders who fly in all the three modes that do exactly that, hire a crew to fill the seats - cos it is not only allowed by FD but was their entire intent when developing NPC multi-crew. But in your world, anyone who does that must be a ganker or griefer right!

I thank you and old duck for reminding me of a lesson I learned so long ago in so many other forums and should have brought with me here. A lavian brandy for each of you.
Only ignore them if they get to you. If you're fine with wading through lots and lots and lots of muck almost everyone has some useful feedback to contribute somewhere.
For me, life's too short and some people really get to me.
I don't engage here with any profundity because the cost:effect has a low optimal trajectory.
I've almost never had someone be rude to me on here, so most people on my ignore list rubbed me the wrong way by how they replied to others and not because of their opinions. Some are broken records. Some are empty cans with one stone. You get an impressive amount of entitlement and this game was doomed from the start not to be able to reach it's potential on either end, like a movie that can't decide if it's for kids or adults becomes neither. I'm impressed they're holding it together as well as they are.

I read about this in another thread:

Notoriety 10 - relentless pursuit from 5 ATR on this CMDR wherever he goes // loss of engineering on all modules at rebuy.
Notoriety 9 - relentless pursuit from 4 ATR on this CMDR wherever he goes // loss of engineering on 1 random module at rebuy.
Notoriety 8 - relentless pursuit from 3 ATR on this CMDR wherever he goes
Notoriety 7 - relentless pursuit from 2 ATR on this CMDR wherever he goes
Notoriety 6 - relentless pursuit from 1 ATR on this CMDR wherever he goes

Caveat - Killing NPCs does not bump Notoriety above 5. Notoriety 6 and above should only come from murder of another CMDR.

I disagree with stripping commanders from their engineered assets.
C&P already charges heavy for crimes, but the big problem is that C&P is conceptually wrong.

Bounties must be on the CMDR, not the ships!

Maybe the bounty should be the insurance cost of the destroyed ship, such that the bounty increases considerably with each kill.

I agree that ATR should be sent after the criminal.
And the victim should pay the full insurance for his own ship. That's why there is insurance anyway.

You can still get murdered anywhere. If anything ATR just encouraged ganking using excessive force and you'll see fewer plucky underdog pvpers trying to down Corvettes in reverb couriers etc, because ATR punishes prolonged engagements. As Frontier basically said themselves, the C&P system was to solve cop-murder as a BGS manipulation tool, which was seen as a problem by some groups. It does next-to-nothing as regards protecting weaker players.

This "hellmode" idea is, I'm sorry, stupid. Given how much of a grind engineering still is, removing mods for something that is literally advertised as part of the game is insane on principle. Moreover end-game players and skilled PvPers don't die unless they basically choose to, regardless of the circumstances - so once again it wouldn't actually help discourage ganking in any practical sense.

Go back to the drawing board.

Great, more intellectual diarrhea from the care bear brigade. "Let's make the meanies play the RIGHT way by ruining their favorite activities!" Get a grip guys. It's a shooty shooty spaceship game. The balance is broken but punishing the players for frontiers screw up is the most backwards solution imaginable.

How do you clean notoriety?
I was under the impression you had to wait it out.

Correct. I should have said, I deal with it when it happens. I engage in PvP activities. Sometimes a CMDR has his crimes turned on, gets killed and I get credited for the kill. In that case, I stop what I'm doing and swap ships and do something else for a couple of hours.

You are absolutely right. Go ahead and be bullies. It's your right, after all. We all create our own hells anyway.

Fly mean, darling.
