On Improving The Safety of Commanders In Game

What about having the ship close by, but not in the jump location, and if the capital ship allowed having fighters on-board, everyone jumps in the fighters and go to meeting place, clean the place out first or let the reavers have their barrel-shooting nerves satisfied, and then when that's done and empty (hopefully), have the jump. Wait for the capital and pick up their explorer. I don't know. Just brain storming a little for fun. :)

Honestly, I have no idea... except a few stray thoughts about the differences between an explorer base-ship and a heavily engineered pvp death star...

How do you differentiate the 1000 armed fleet defense Condas from the sleeper agents?

LOL, that reminds me of a very fun incident at an exploration-CG. Since I was in Open I flew around in my "exploration"-DBS. Some CMDRs from Iridium Wing where very, very clear that they consider me as a potential thread to explorers and made a polite request that I leave the system (or…).
I handed in my data and left the system (to collect more data). Ah, good times.

Actually, I care more about the well being and safety of my NPC crew then myself sometimes... I really wish that my Crew could also use escape pods, instead of dying. This has been a bone of contention for me since the release of NPC crews...

I planned ahead for this event. Saw the initial announcement when it was first being organized and thought how cool it would be to be a part of it. So I checked out the various builds there were posted and decided on a DBX. I built my ship to make the journey and then joined the player group. I participated in the discord channel trying to glean as much information as I could.

The only thing that tossed a wrench in the machine for me was the 10 month commitment. After mulling over real life requirements that 10 month thing pretty much put my DW2 dreams on the back burner. So, I decided not to go and not log in to the player group so I wouldn't take up a slot for those that are on the expedition and might need it. It's probably not an issue but I don't want even the slightest possibility of causing problems.

But, back to OP's suggestion of planning ahead.. yeah, probably a very good idea. Wanting to see the world (Elite) thru rose colored glasses can be dangerous.

Just thought Id share my exploration build. I think it gets good range, has all the bits and gadgets one would really ever need, and decent health/teeth.

It can take down NPCs, and if a ganker interdicts me, I am betting I would at least be able to survive the encounter.

Edit: not saying its a masterpiece or anything, but it IS possible to make an exploration ship with teeth

I just got kicked from the Fleetcomm discord.

It's a shame because I was never anything but pleasant to the explorers in there.

The mods/organizers there are so petty.

I'm such a dunce. Trying to get to grips with the reasoning in blaming the leadeship.

While the fact of the matter is, there is no reasoning. A buddy was thrown out of discord by the organisers, and this is just a feeble attempt at a smear campaign. I won't be getting my answers, because there are none.

Leadership decided to have everyone jump from a single system. As thousands and thousands of players signed up there wasn’t anyone considering perhaps this wasn’t a good idea? Maybe spread things out? Encourage folks to jump from anywhere but that system?

Sure, it seems their primary responsibility was to the Private Group but the folks in Open Play were there because of the Distant Worlds 2 event. If it’s me, I’m absolutely taking responsibility for that.

Lack of foresight. Plain and simple. Next time don’t pile all the fish into a barrel.

Furthermore, I’ve seen Iridian Wing comment that there was ‘little, if any’ preparation the week before the event AND that their ‘defense force’ was primarily for role play scenarios. That’s pretty damning.

But in the end it goes back to what Oubs picked up on - the defeatist attitude has got to stop or we’re just going to keep seeing more and more events get suckered punched like this.

In a general sense you are very much doing it right!

Taking responsibility - yes, that would be a good start for those who gank and think that blowing up explorers who want to meet up with other explorers is a good idea.

And we are not seeing more and more - we are seeing the same for years.

And it’s not obvious at this point none of us can control what gankers and griefers do?

What can you control? What can you do to protect yourself and your fellow Commanders?

I wonder if the other two expeditions that launched this month had issues... I'm guessing that since they were not so hyped they probably left with minimal problems other than the server's crashing when DW2 launched.

But being prepared doesn't change the "griefers" or gankers.
Being prepared and planing ahead doesn't help those who don't know how such events in Open mode usually end.
Being prepared doesn't prevent others from getting annoyed with Open Mode.
Offering the advice of just not play in Open Mode has no positive result on Open Mode. It's just accepting defeat, that Open Mode is the realm of gankers and "griefers".

What I can do to protect myself and others I know? Simple, not participate in such events in Open. And that is the sad part of it, in my opinion. It looks like that those who organizing such events don't even bother to plan for anything in Open mode anymore.

I refuse to believe events in Open can’t be done. Will they be perfect? No, but they can be better that what we’ve got now.

And yes, I understand DW2 was not an Open mode event. DW3 could be. :)

And here are the facts.

There was one CMDR in the PG causing trouble. If all CMDRs had arrived in PGs, there would have been a lot of bored gankers out there. It's the CMDRs own decision to arrive in Open. This has nothing to do with leadership. You wouldn't have taken responsibility because you can't force CMDRs not to go into Open. Aren't you guys always banging on about players taking responsibility when in Open? Then be consistent now.

You wouldn't have caved in to some gankiewankies either. The departure point has significance. Spreading it out would have been a win for the gankiewankies. As you can read from many who participated in the private groups, they experienced nothing untoward. It's not lack of foresight, it was pretty clear the pillocks would be there in Open.

Lastly, there is no defeatist attitude. Spreading the departure around would be the defeatist attitude. DWE2 will merely go on despite a lot of people who are spiteful and want it to fail. It won't fail. The fact 11,000 CMDRs have signed up makes it a success already.

I signed up for DWE2, and had I tagged along as a participant I would have been very cross if the organisers had spread out or moved the departure point.

DWE2 organisers did a fantastic job with DWE2. This is a feeble smear campaign because someone was kicked out of discord by the organisers. Someone who prides himself of being the bad guy. Being a bad guy has consequences. I personally would have had no problems with him participating, but it's understandable others did. He made his own bed, now he can lie in it.

You should make a thread blaming the organisers for something. :)
