I hope DW2 gets ganked all the way to Beagle Point.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe ...
NPC Beluga Pirates that maneuver like a Viper...
Been ganked by flickering shadows...
All those moments will be lost in time
Like elephant butt leather, and disappearing stars.
Time to die

Only the very finest elephant butt leather is used in the pride of Falcon de Lacy...

That happened long ago and its only gotten worse over the years. Whilst I think the DW2 seems like a cool sort of thing what I do find rather pathetic is the entitlement certain players have when it comes to the way they play and the way this is backed up by Braben. Identifying as an 'explorer' doesn't (or shouldn't) mean they are a better class of player and nor should it come with any extra privileges even if Frontier acts as if its the case.

Sounds like it annoys you...

Sorry to hear this.

I don't have a strong opinion either way, but so far as I do have one it is that exploration in the deep should be a risky endeavour and, on a trip like DW2, just getting back alive a big achievement. I'm doing DW2 ATM but that doesn't mean I wanted a bus tour of the galaxy. :)

As to the killing of ships in private groups where contrary to the rules, well what can I say? The offenders should be criticised, particularly given their catch cry is often "git gud or use solo or private". Seems they don't even believe what they are saying.

I just started DW2 and I'm already disillusioned with it. Exploration was safe enough when I couldn't fit an AFMU on my 14.2ly jump range ship that wasn't within 2k jumps of any way to repair or rearm, and the only way to refuel was with my own scoop.

Now I've got a ship that can fix itself, rearm itself, and has no limit to it's endurance other than the integrity provided by an armored/double braced PP. Civilization has spread to the extent that I have to be on the far side of the galaxy to ever be more than 10k from a large landing pad. I could probably be dropped off anywhere in the galaxy with any of my fuel scoop equipped ships and make it safely back with no canopy, just set course for the nearest inhabited system and synthesize life support the whole trip!

Unless I deliberately fly a lemon or make a comical string of mistakes, there is no danger, and recklessness is barely ever punished.

everything else aside i fully agree with this. I am a PvEr player but i do prefer my "E" to have teeth. I really do not know why it all changed but back in the design stages a huge trip to for instance SagA was going to be something which took a concerted effort between groups of explorers selling their data to share, and a significant time investment, instead, 24hrs into gamma players were there. Such a shame./...

and since then, as you say, with synthesis, jumponium etc etc it has just got simpler still.

In what way does identifying as an 'explorer' mean a better class player?

In my experience, the more 'explorer badges' on a persons signature (or referencing to the First Great Expedition) the more "I'm a better class of person than you" their posts content will be.

Particularly in a thread involving PvP, hardpoints mounted with weapons, or thargoids

Or people using weapons on thargoids.

I see. That was probably direct to me. Oh, well, I'll remove my badges then. :/

Didn't know that was the impression people got from it.

Your badges don't determine the content of your post - what you say does! If someone makes a judgement about you based on your badges and not what you typed, then they're probably not worth your concern.

Maybe not. I just don't see myself as a better class, rather the opposite. It feels better to have it gone.
