CQC Real men PvP in CQC, only carebears PvP in the main game

"Take a risk": Where is the risk? I neither die because people can't aim with fixed weapons against my SR Condor and if I die I lose nothing.

Sometimes when four people are trying to shoot me down, I just fly out of bounds as far as I can go.

The risk is that they realize this and turn back before they explode too, but usually the match ends with twice as many deaths as kills.

engagements that are decided by who fires first

~4.1 KDR just by trying to be the last one in the line of people shooting the ones in front of them in the !

Go eat at McDonalds, or Goetia Monads?

Talk is cheap.

Since I still can't reliably find any matches, this will have to do. CMDR's assets censored for SFWness.

CQC without power ups, and use of your own ships would be interesting.

The power ups kinda ruin it for me a little. I know it's part of the game, to make it more arcadey and draw people to certain parts of the map for power ups, but I guess, for me, the power up thing is something I left back in Halo.

I managed to get quite a few matches in when CQC was new and people actually played it in my timezone (hence my sig on this forum). I maintained a high KDR and WR, but just found it not as fun or deep as main game PvP as far as mechanics and skill testing goes.

I get that there are people who enjoy it, and that's their right. My issue is when people try to make the claim that it's somehow a replacement for main game PvP, and/or a better test of skill. CQC severely cuts down on the skills you are able to gain with regard to the main game, but introduces others such as map knowledge that aren't a thing in the main game anywhere.

Oh i agree, its a different skill set.

For me though, its a lot more exciting and entertaining. Main game battles between experts are snoozefests to watch and I can't imagine particularly enjoying them if i git gud and partaked. They simply take far too long. In the time it takes for n open play PvP battle you can have multiple rounds in CQC.

Plus its easy to grab a cig between rounds with CQC... not so easy with a protracted open PvP battle. Although that might be an argument in its favour :p

You put in even more depilatory work than I thought.

Nice ratio. Mine is less than 1 at the moment, still learning though. I'd be happy to reach 1. I'm not a great PvPer, even in PvP games that I play a lot. Just don't have the hand eye coordination and reactions of some. Regardless, its still fun.

I recall really liking capture the flag, but I'm not sure if it's even real any more, since I haven't been able to get in a CTF match since the original CQC/1.4 beta.

Could just be a figment of my imagination at this point.

Yeah, i'd prefer CQC without the power ups as well. Too gimicky. Having said that, its cool when you grab them ;)

CQC with your own ships? Hmmm.... on those maps? It would be dominated by vultures and couriers methinks. Large ships would stand no chance, a lot of medium ships would struggle badly. I suppose different maps could work, like a regular asteroid field, although big ships could still have troubles there trying to weave about inside the field. Could be funny, Cutters would get shredded :D

I think it might be ok in you were not allowed to use engineering and you didn't use your own ships exactly. You just entered ship screen where you could take whatever ship and equipment you wanted. I'd be highly tempted to go full on troll though and fit mine launchers on all hardpoints :D

At least that way everyone is on an equal footing, which is an important factor for me in a PvP game. I hate PvP games which allow certain people to gain advantages. CQC has it a little bit, with its unlocks, but the main unlocks (ships) come early and the equipment unlocks... well, i have some dislike of it a bit, but it is a bit trade-offy.

I used to play TF2 until i saw that you could gain a distinct advantage through some of the items you could buy. Yeah, you can get lucky and unlock them without purchases, but its very much luck of the draw and still puts new players at a real disadvantage.

Regarding the using own ships, another issue is TTK. One thing i love about CQC is its fast pace, and even then, some people can still make it through a round without dying (i've done it myself miraculously). If people could take their own ships, especially engineered, i could see some matches ending without a single kill.

I haven't tried the team modes. Not sure if there are enough people playing for that and nothing worse being in a game where you have unbalanced sides, the matchmaker isn't particularly clever from what i've seen.

Real men are out hunting real moose with real guns, cooking the meat over a real fire with real wood cut with a real axe swung by their real muscles, and then eating that cooked meat with a really big hunting knife.
Guns? Cooking the meat?

Bunch of girls.

Ziggy one of the girls Stardust

Low quality bait

That said, I'll still dunk on people just the same in CQC lol. I'd rather not, though. The lack of customization, watered down handling, and gimballed everything is pretty lame.

You're better off meeting up in open and battling it out in vanilla Eagles. You get a better variety of parts, and they're so cheap, anyone can throw one together in a few minutes to be ready to scrap.

Even with the level field, don't expect to be taking out seasoned PvP pilots with ease. There is more to PvP than having a quality ship-- you still gotta apply it correctly lol.

Nobody would though. Even reading this thread, the PvP in Main Game types want to do CQC with their own (engineered through the roof, meta) ships. Mention combat on an equal footing and we get enough salt to grit the roads round Cambridge Science Park for the rest of this winter and next.

Suppose it depends on who you know. I have run into some people who are shy about getting into unengineered Eagles to fight, but most of the folks I run into on the Xbox side are down. Even got a few rookies and on the fence tyes into PVP that way.

A vast majority of the CQC modules require a fair amount of play time to unlock, which is difficult because of lack of interest/matchmaking issues. In Open, you have immediate access to everything, assuming you have a handful of credits.

Suppose all you really need to unlock in CQC are the rapid cannons, which you get early on. Set pips to 4-0-2, and hold the fire button until your target dies in a couple seconds lol.

I do like the fast pace, and I'd love to see no power ups, as mentioned before. A choice between gimbal and fixed for weapons (with the various pros/cons) would also be cool.

I like the idea of maps that allow for larger ships - one of the things I did enjoy in my Halo days were the various different map sizes. The battles in open space always kinda bugged me, as I tend to prefer to fight around asteroid fields. I like having cover to help make up for my lack of fixed weapon accuracy.

I still find CQC fun, so long as a game can be found.

As for engineering, I still think the best mods were the original overcharged/cool/efficient (and whatever else I forgot about) weapons from the 2.x Betas (as in - before launch of the game). They had their pros/cons, but never really gave you a distinct advantage, just an improvement that could be of benefit if you knew how to take advantage of it. The power leapfrog that is the current engineering has kinda killed it for me.
