Am I ever going to hear station greetings again?

I've also run into this a couple of times. Last time was a couple of weeks ago. I did a clean reinstall of my nvidia drivers but opted not to install the nvidia audio driver since I don't need it.

What happened was that the center channel for my audio output was ignored like what a couple of posters above have said, resulting in my not hearing any station communications. If I opened my computer's audio properties and switched it to stereo, then back to surround, everything would sound correct in Elite. I could do this before loading Elite or while in game. BUT, I'd have to do this every time I played.

I ended up just reinstalling the nvidia audio driver and the issue hasn't come up again.

I'll have to try that out (stereo/surround).
Drivers are new, it's been a problem for me across multiple driver installations.

I made bug reports since 2.4 about the missing friendly atc greetings when you're allied to a station.
Since 3.3 those are back and I realy enjoy them, so nope, no missing atc greeting, quite the opposite actually.
Strange that some hear them and some don't.

Not only do stations greet me, but there's this one particular Imperial Space Traffic Controller with a sexy voice who has been flirting with me lately. I accidentally overshot the landing pad when she invited me to the bar for drinks!

Careful! I think i know her. But she spiked my drink, the next morning i woke up and had to walk back to my ship all naked...

What speakers do you use please?

If you use any special effect like "spatial" it can mess with output.

Some speakers are pseudo 5.1 which can also mess with output.

You have a sound card? Update drivers. Make sure there are no special effects on in that too.

She said the same to me mate, got me 3 sheets to the wind then when we got back to her place her brother sucker-punched me from behind the door and nicked my wallet. :(

They're Cambridge speakers. Old, but sound good.
3 RCA connectors (FRONT/REAR/shared SUB & CTR) connecting the sub to the sound card (integrated to mobo), then individual outputs from the sub to the satellite speakers.
Not running any special effects AFAIK, will verify.

Is the Cambridge speakers white? And the satellites little cubes? If so I had the same kit a while back, nice speakers.

Anyhoooo I think this is a surround issue where you are loosing a channel, that being the one carrying the voices for ATC amongst other things.

Check all connections check settings in the MB sound software check no spatial or equivalent buttons on speakers (can't rem)

Check windows is not conflicting with the mb sound software.

Make sure all drivers up to date.

Black speakers, but yes, little cubes for the satellites, fair sized sub.
