I just play the game, and that gives me all the stuff I need. I engineered
piles of ships. But there are always people who want something now, and those will always find some grindy, exploity and terribly unfun way to do so. And they'll then complain and whine about how they are not having fun. So whatever. If people want to spend their lives force-quiting a program, rebooting, re-scooping and quitting again:
have fun. Nobody is forcing you to do so however, so if you do at least dont blame others for wasting your time.
Especially in light of the fact that gal-map is broken on PS4 (after zooming in/out certain systems simply cannot be selected via controls, only via entering name in textbox, so using state checkboxes is nearly useless) I find the "real" way of finding HGE candidate systems grindy and unfun. It basically amounts to performing 3rd party tool searches on my adjacent laptop and jumping around.
So I instead choose whatever is the most efficient way to get mats I need for parts of the game I do find fun.
My earlier response was due to this notion folks who play this way somehow ruin the game for others. The current HGE situation emerged long before any exploits were widely known, so the notion was simply a disingenuous way for someone to irrationally express derision and anger towards folks who play like I do. No FDev developer is saying to him/herself "oh people are using exploits, better nerf something besides the exploit". They either fix the exploit, or don't care/are unaware/have higher priorities.
I have a fair understanding of BGS - I started as a BGS/Powerplay CMDR. I know (in the online sense) several very experienced BGS/PP CMDRs quite well and respect their knowledge of the game. Despite the "noob" claim I'm quite capable of learning it to that extent myself; I design and implement software for a living and have 1000+ hours played (I'm aware many posters here have much much more, but it doesn't take tens of thousands of hours to learn the BGS, even as opaque as it is).
But I decided it wasn't fun, and not the way I wanted to play, so I don't bother. I just min/max BGS stuff so I can proceed with other gameplay.
I'm free to express my opinion on the design of BGS, especially since I do so without commenting on the personality or ethical worth of those who disagree with me, unlike typical responses to my opinion.
