For those who say that space legs are pointless...

Spacelegs. Yawn. Millionth thread. Let it go.

Why? Because you appear to be a completely unimaginative individual?

Don't care for space legs? Then don't use 'em. Remain transfixed in your cockpit chair as a paraplegic wunderkind Cmder pilot :)

Whatever you do, allow the rest of us to dream. You're not the only player in the ED universe you know. So your opinion is not exactly monolithic.....

Isn't Doom technically 'space legs' and virtually every other game that has been released since Doom has been FPS in space.

Nothing about the Elite franchise screams Doom or Arma to me. Seems like development could be better spent on the space-sim genre which is far more limited in alternatives.

Personally I'd be happy with some EVA type stuff or ability to explore the ship interiors would be good but for FPS mazes and "scream at your mates, capture the thing, press the button" squad type gameplay I'll go elsewhere for (probably not Starcitizen I'm afraid)

As somebody who has been following SC for about 300 years (when it started pre-alpha...or Alpha...or Sub-Alpha...or whatever they call it now) and has dropped about a $1000 on it, I can honestly say the FPS aspect is pretty lackluster/disappointing. It's clunky, movement seems weird, etc..

Tl;DR - You ain't missing much.

I've been reading these threads for a couple of years and I can't tell what it is that people want. Some of them it's clearly Elder Scrolls IV, others something on a spectrum between The Sims and Second Life. Some want all the Welding Simulator action of early-era Space Engineers, in which case, I hope they also give us the rifle so I can shoot my own face off.

Which more or less guarantees that the end result is going to be a bitter disappointment to quite a lot of people. Which isn't news either.

Sadly it's not that simple.

I, for one, hate car racing games, but I'm literally forced to drive the SRV now and then, because I need those goddamn raw materials if I want to enjoy flying my virtual spaceship.

Well same here. Forza Horizon or whatever iteration it's reinvented itself to date give me hives.

But since you DON'T want to drive, then the space legs will manually take you to the raw mats. Albeit after a very long space walk on a desloate planet/asteroid. But at least you lowered the probability of muscle atrophy and potential hemorrhoids from being permanently bound to your pilot's seat.... :D

Or if that IS your thing, then exercise the option to stick with the traditional game play as is. DON'T exercise your ability to leave your seat. Just fly around and find planetary bodies that allow you to mine them from the ship instead.

The point is the player now has choices and alteratives. Which could open potential additional game play opportunities to engage the environment i.e. their unoccupied space craft being detected, raided for goods/modules and/or destroyed by NPCs or other players....

... and won't add any gameplay.
Please forgive me. This is a clip of a streamer playing Star Citi*****. It is a beautifully wicked example of what space legs could be.

what happens to that guy? is he on drugs or something?

anyway, about the video, i just saw some counter-strike type gameplay in a halo aesthetics, is this what i should be impressed about?

I just want to walk around inside my ship..... but our ships do not have gravity. So if it amounts to only being able to walk around a station or on a planet but not inside the ship itself I could just play NMS for that (and I don't even like NMS). Unless we are getting some zero-G floating around inside our ships after unstrapping from the pilot seat so we can explore the full interior of all the cool ships I don't even want it.

You banner picture looks like your cmdr lady has a serious space cocaine habit..

Oh yeah, I hope it's NEVER the latter. Basically they should start with the basics - EVA as an alternate means for repairs. In ship moving about (hopefully with also practical purposes, like repairing internals without an auto-repair module). In station moving about both as an alternate means to access menu items and for other mission-based gameplay. Being able to get out and interact with the small outposts that we can't currently dock at, but land next to, and so on, again, for mission based reasons. Combat possible, but pretty much the same way combat exists for SRVs right now.

But after that? I'm not sure. Just not Battlefield/COD/Doom nonsense, that's all I know for sure.

Theres really only 3 ways this can all go.

1. ED gets space legs. yay
2.Star citizen gets finished. yay
3. a new IP comes along that is better than ed or sc. yay

in conclusion:
one day there will be a game better than any game out today. yay
until then, I love ED. yay

I'd love space legs. I'd love the ability to walk around our own ships, I'd love to walk around stations. I'd love to walk about alien ruins. But I kinda get that the most of the attached gameplay is actually already covered by SUVs. We've explored inside alien bases, explored ruins and scavenged artifacts, snuck about human bases and hacked forcefields.... and so on. The one new type of gameplay that spacelegs might be useful for is exploring spacehulks, searching through abandoned ships. So while I want spacelegs, I concede that other things (atmospheric landings) should likely come first.

someone in this thread said, millionth thread, forget about it, if a million threads exist, that means the people who play the game want space legs. someone doesnt know how to follow logic.

as in Bethesda's Starfield IP? After F76 went live, I'd never trust Howard to produce a decent NEW title ever again. aka a title that was NOT the brainchild of someone else who is no longer with Bethesda aka Chris Avellone (Founder of Fallout) and Julian Le Fay (aka Aedric God Julianos aka Founder of the Father Scrolls & TES Universe).

Howard literally had a gold mine handed to him by ZoS on a silver platter starting with Morrowind and FO3. Yet as the prime caretaker of these 2 classic franchises, he's allowed the game play quality to suffer and devolve to where they are today.

Nope. I'll bet on #1 and especially #2 happening (i.e. Squadron 42 come 2020) before I'd ever trust lying Todd with developing a single player title ever again. lmao.

No specific ip in mind when i say this. I dont care who makes it. Proof is in the gameplay. If i like it more than ed, its my new game.
