My magic thrusters? Oh mate give it a rest, you really don't have a clue. Passed Stonehenge a few weeks back, beautiful area.
No, no, honest, you've got me on board. It's "mostly physically correctly simulated".
You just have to believe.

Space molasses.
Combined with space madness it seems.
Actually its the ether. The Michelson-Morley experiment turned out completely differently in the Elite universe.Space molasses.
There is method to my space madness.

This also explains why our commanders arent crushed by inertial forces in flight. The cockpit and bridge areas are filled with condensed ether, to get regular ether you just add the specified volume of anti ether.

At which point does the speed cap break physical laws?
There's no reason for a limited speed, assuming flight assist is off.
The reasoning that the thrusters are programmed to stay within a limit doesn't fly, because after shutting off the thrusters while descending towards a planet, a ship should keep gaining speed at a constant rate until impact, yet it is still staying limited.
You keep harping on about the thrusters working without power or when they're destroyed, yet the only situation in which they do this is when you have FAon with unpowered or destroyed thrusters and they'll only stop your ship. No, I really do get it. Your magic thrusters are "realistic". Because if you could have magic thrusters on a starship that work without power and can't be destroyed then that would be realistic, so it's realistic when you have them in a game that isn't anything like reality.
Gameplay and balance reasons. The same question could be raised about 3km-4km max range of weaponry, whereas in real life Isaac Newton is the most deadly mother....lover in the universe and no projectile (or beam, in case of laser weaponry) would stop unless hitting other body.
At the point where Superman can fly because birds can also fly.
Or, the point at which the equipment which actually produces the thrust to enforce your speed cap is literal fantasy.
Take your pick, not much between these two explanations.
I've understood it, there's no need to keep repeating yourself. Your explanation for the flight model is that it's a mostly realistic simulation of physics, except for the bit which isn't, which is between 1% and 49% of it.
