[Video] Griefing : is there a problem?!

To the griefer’s themselves, I’d like to know why do you do it?
Is it because;-
1) you know that the other player will be hurt at the lost game time / progress and that makes you feel better?
2) highlight a point or protest to Frontier about the game you don’t like?
3) Is it jealousy that certain events are not about you so you’re going to spoil it for the rest of the player base or try and make it about you?
4) Why do you complain at being blocked at other commanders in solo or private groups when you don’t seem to get that if you spoil other people’s enjoyment of the game they either a) stop playing the game or b) not want to play in a game with you?
5) just because you can?

Or maybe because its more entertaining, the same as people go out in the wild and shoot deer,

its more fun than shooting a cardboard cutout of deer in the shooting range. also wild deer have the chance of over reacting on "/r/deer" or "wildlife . frontear . com / forums" and providing a bonus form of entertainment

yes, lets not go down that road out. I have had to state before, because people do not think before they type... I have language issue, in fact, i construct sentences backward in my head and then then try to make them understandable to normal people... I'm trying, always learning, but don't appreciate begin mocked.

stick to attacking the argument and not the person, ty :)

I'm not mocking you.
The whole point of that book is exactly what you're describing.

You brought it up as well, so it should be up for discussion.

oh, didn't know nat played in open :p

but to answer 1) Yoga pants, you may even get that reference, even though its a light hearted thread, it relates to some of the reason why this happens, and its not really about the game, but the person and personality that the griefer are upset by, and have to lash out.

What in the world are you talking about now?

Who do you think is "lashing out"?

ALL PVPERS ARE BAD!!!!111!!

The main problem with PvPers who attack non PvPers is that 99.9% of them completely fail Wheaton's Law. I have no idea if it's because they are like that in reality or not but once in a game they seem to lose all ability to pass that aforementioned law. Funny thing is some get a bit upset and salty when confronted about their behaviour....weird as the words they read are "just pixels".

edited (in bold) for clarification! :)

Almost all CGs are PvP related. If you're hauling cargo/nuking NPCs for a particular Power/Faction or some other result, you're a target for enemy CMDR's. The current CG is a PvP event, with Alliance vs Federal objectives, and Imperial pledges have an abundance of legitimate PvP targets.

That sounds great, hopefully Frontier can implement open-only powerplay some day so I can come across these targets

As Overlord of the Galaxy, I possess great influence -- far beyond what most people are even aware of. In fact, even Yamiks himself is secretly loyal to my overlordship, as can clearly be seen from this comms image captured last year, when he implicitly acknowledged my authority to rule, by performing the overlord salute:

secretly... why secretly.. i just like a good RP and dedication!

To Phoenix_Dfire, I'd like to know why do you ask why?

1) Is it going to give you early warning of an impending attack?
2) Does knowing why influence how you build your ship?
3) Are the reasons why going to help you stay calm and not panic?
4) Does having your curiosity satisfied make the high-wake escape quicker?
5) Or are you looking for some way to look down on other players of the game?

1) No
2) Yes
3) I don't panic.
4) No.
5) Not really, but you do want to try and understand why spoiling other people's fun is important to them. I.e you see people playing soccer having a good time, so you HAVE to run over and burst the football.

You don't see any holes in your proposal that "griefers" could use against you? That's amusing.

who says i dont? Not a proposal really (would never happen, its my strawman at best :p). it's just pointing out that the game is safe in that area, yet we are told elite is ment to be dangerous.

I would not wanna see such a change happen, it would spoil the game in so many ways (but level the playing field). if there was such a change, the game would be truly dangerous, and we may see the greifers who say 'it's just a game' getting upset that it's to hard... or that someone got them selves killed in a big ship just to make them bankrupt.

My point is.. its so easy to be high and mighty, say how people need to get good, learnt to outfit (i agree they should) but they would not be half a if the game was just as dangerous for greifer.

The maths...

-player with some cash plays plays in open knowing if they die in there 100 mill a rated ship, they pay 7mill (i think) but the attacker now has 100 Mill added to their total fine.
-Now maybe a few more commander get into a fight with the same greifer, start to add up...
-Then the news gets out and people are hunting down this player with a big 'total fine' knowing that, if they fail to kill them, the fine goes up, but if they win, they may bankrupt the greifer....

And then we may see grifers crying harassment. Just an interesting idea :)
