How did you die - Tell your story

I was interdicted on my way to Omega Mining, but it was not the cleverest idea for ganker to compete with Imperial Clipper in speed and maneuverability, so I got away easily.

However I made a terrible mistake: I landed in the vicinity of the WP2 basecamp in FleetCom, but it was too early, so I decided to wait offline. An then I misclicked "Open" when loading the game. Big mistake :) Had no chance of using my superior speed to escape and was destroyed while still standing on the ground.

Will now have to rush back to the Bubble to replace lost hutton mug :)

I should. Probably get more attraction that way too. It would be even more fun if I had it engineered for speed only, and buzzing around in a wasp-paint. :D
I would think that that would have been done before... but I dunno...
In any case, it's a damned fine idea.

Does this count? :)

created a new account right before the event. Got lucky enough to get into the main expedition roster.
Through creative missions and mining I was able to secure a 55LY Cutter kitted out for exploration.

I proceeded to leave the station...

and some NPC type 6 decided to jam his way out of the station just as I was passing through the mail slot.

My ship got hooked on something somewhere and I couldn't move. My shields and hull started to drop surprisingly quickly.

T Plus 30 seconds from mission launch....
12 Million credit rebuy.

Killed by another commander at the first waypoint. Ferdelance v my unarmed asp x. it didn’t last long. Oh well, I’ll play in mobius from now on and complete my journey to BP.

Well the launch of the next way-point is only a few hours behind us and we are 2 commanders down already. i'm pretty sure there has been more but not seen this post to tell their tale.

List updated.

Count me as one of the commanders to lose a ship on this section of the trip. This one was totally my own dumb fault.

So I skipped the Eagle Nebula entirely since I had gone over there during the mining time to see what was over there so I left from Omega straight to NGC6629. Found a few ELW and Water worlds on the 50 jump trip from there to Rohini. Caught some pretty pictures and was generally in a good laid back mood... which of course you all know is my problem.

I'm playing in the DW2 Private group on Xbox and until now have never had an issue so I jump into Rohini and said Hi on the system chat. I then proceeded, like an idiot, to cruise about the system like a tourist instead of going straight to a base to sell and log all my cool discoveries. I went over to the cargo megaship and started to scan it for logs and such. I was then jumped by a Thomas character and killed. Not sure if NPC or player just know I died and it's my own damn fault for not paying attention to mass lock areas and ships around me. Dur...

ouch, i bet you just closed your eyes and gave out a big sigh shaking your head.

Well we all know now that there are ELW and WW out there direct from Omega to Rohini. Go get them commanders.

Pretty much exactly what I did. Since it was before work I then got up and went to shower and such and nicked myself shaving I was so out of it. :p

I saw you chatting away last night on the squadron chat about this.

On the day of the launch to WP3 I was a bit bored so decided to get to the launch site early. Followed Geo Site 5 then just hit boost a few times to do the last 8km quickly. Got distracted by one of the kids and slammed into the surface. All cargo gone.
Like Shnyrik I've just gone back to the bubble to restock on alcohol, cigars and mugs. Halfway back to WP2.

Once was in the same situation in Maya in times of that meta-alloy boom. During one of the first flights on a newly bought iCutter with something like 750 tons of mission meta-alloys glide dropped me about a hundred kilometers from the settlement. So, I thought, I have a few spare minutes, why not to pour some tea? Naturally, I was distracted in process -- and then BANG, slammed into a mountain. That was a bit frustrating :)

That must have been some other unlucky colleague, for yesterday I didn't have much free time ;)

I'm now in the Bubble grinding for G5 materials for my shield upgrade, will depart towards WP3 closer to the weekend and will, probably, swap ship for something more sturdy.

lol First world problems lol

True,.and I have another... I have not died but I did submit my comp to a service. It keeps rebooting during Elite and I've had quite a discussion with FD support. Super cool guys but couldn't help. Now I found out I'm not the only one with such a problem and that in some way ASUS G752s are faulty. THIS is a first-world problem! :D

If anyone will notice my absence at WP3, please don't cry. I'll catch up. ;)

What ship/shield setup will you be brining? Do you need any guidance?

What ship/shield setup will you be brining?

Well, I've decided to finally find some use for those nice greeny prisms that have been gathering dust in my storage.

As for the ship itself, it's not an easy decision. I was pretty satisfied with the combination of
Clipper's speed and 50+Lys jump range, I even managed to escape (or I'd rather say "evade") a pair of interdictions using it's SC maneuverability, but when they finally got me it was almost a oneshot, which is kind of sad.

To have more chances of surviving a single attack I can tune my Clipper to have about 575Mj shield (which is good for Clipper with it's strange shield multiplayer and which is about 4 times more than I have now), or I am very tempted to tune Cutter with it's large 2000Mj to have almost the same jump range.

The latter is naturally better in terms of surviving a fight, and the only thing that stops me from making an immediate decision is that I'm afraid that for five months of the journey I'll hurt my hand and rub a hole in my table with a mouse while trying to make it turn :)

I know the obvious part about "take paper ship and play in solo" -- yes, it's the most convenient way for explorer to stay alive, which I use, of course, but I believe, that in an event as big as DW2 is it takes away part of the fun and roleplay. So this is, probably, not the last time I write to this thread ;)

Mine was a combination of carelessness and alcohol.

I was exploring around the Omega area while waiting for the next WP to be announced.
Came across an interesting looking planet and decided to go down for a look around.
I had supped a few drinks before this session and failed to check the gravity before attempting landing. Got to the end of the glide and found myself dropping towards the ground at a great rate, I then panicked trying to recover and made a very pretty fireball as I smashed into the ground.
Turns out it was only 2.5 G or so which I've done before, so the rule is - Don't drink and fly!
At least I could rebuy my ship at Omega mining so I didn't have to go all the way back to the start of the expedition.... being a bit more careful now.... it's getting to be a long way back!
