I was killed by an NPC in the final moments before launch at the beacon. Unfortunately I was carrying rares (Hutton Mugs & Centauri Mega Gin) and if there was any warning it was lost in the sea of text rapidly scrolling up the comms panel. I suddenly realised I was being shot at and not knowing whether it was an NPC or commander, I tried to log out, but the 15 seconds counter gave plenty of time to get me killed. I was in Fleetcom PG so before hitting rebuy the logs were checked as I'd missed the death screen for any names.

Back at Jameson Memorial, I set off again in my anaconda (thankfully with 98% insurance :) ) and aimed for the first POI. All was going well until I continued on to The View, and immediately broke my promise of not landing on any high-g planets.... but this one looked so beautiful, and I carefully went in for a landing. My hull went down to 55% but as I had repair limpets I wasn't too concerned, intending to repair my hull once I was airborne again and could change firegroups. After a quick ride around in an SRV I returned to the ship and became increasingly concerned at all the sparks still flying from it, deciding to get off the planet and repair.

Once off the ground I started the repair process as I was moving out of mass lock. I then noticed someone comment about it being a bad idea to have 5D thrusters on their anaconda on a 3g planet, and quickly checked to see what mine were.....6D, OK... wait it looks like they are disabled.... (if I'd stopped for a second I'd have realised they couldn't have been!) clicked to re-enable.... no they were enabled <expletive> .... OK re-enable again - phew! Seconds later I realised I had been rapidly descending after disabling the thrusters, and smashed into the planet! OOOPS!

This time I knew it was my own stupid fault and hit the rebuy, returning to Jameson Memorial once again. I took off again straightaway and beelined for the third POI, Cycladia and after watching the fast-moving asteroids for a while, moved to a safe distance before logging out for the night. Hoping this is third time lucky!!

At least I took a screenshot :)

Also killed in Pallaeni in the PG, also probably because I was carrying rares. I re-visited all the rares again before starting over, then almost died again on the high G planet, (seems to be a pattern here), without even landing because I got caght in the gravity well and eventually worked out I had to dive towards the planet to get enough speed to enter SC. By that time my hull and modules were mush due to overheating for so long, so I limped back to Lave station for repairs.

I think as an experienced explorer I was very blase about the whole thing. Now I consider every step before taking it. Arrived at WP2 with 100% on everything except paint.

lol brilliant read......not so brilliant for you though.

i tell you what, i was on my way to land at The View, i got the orbital heads up appear and then at the last minute i changed my mind and pulled back on the controller. Reading about your experiences landing there i'm glad i didn't.

I might go on my second account later and have a go landing and if i make it i will go down in my DW2 commander.

Lost my crewmate May Trujillo a deadly pilot from Valhalla. Hope she sits at the table with her God's now and drinks beer out of thargoid skulls...

It is Henkka77's fault, btw!!!

I was prepared to make the journey with my Python. Went to pallaeni, and landed next to Henkka77's Corvette. Got jealous and said to me, "screw this 12Ly range, get yours out of the garage and catch up your pilot!"

So I did.
Back at Pallaeni I dropped into the bacon and went afk to do some family business.

OK, this one wasn't Henkkas fault:
I forgot the mug I kept in my cargo.... :)
Came back to my computer just to see the explosion of my Corvette. (shot by a npc, btw)

Without a pilot now I switched back to the Python :D
So obvious this is also valid for exploration:
never change a running system ;)

Dropping your ship into bacon could simultaneously be the best and worst idea ever.

MMMMMM Bacon (said in a homer simpson druling voice)

Were bacon flavoured ships what attracted the sharks?

Nowhere near death or anything but....
Very first system after the OC launch, bit too excited on chat and failed to observe heat as the FSD charged. So a couple of percent off a few modules. No AFMU. Ship runs cool pretty cool (ices up when throttled down), so no excuses.

No deaths yet, but I did wipe my backside with a small moon while trying to land too quickly. It was a very low g moon at that ><. Fortunately, I'm packing everything but the kitchen sink (and refinery) in my Conda so I could easily repair the 13% hull damage.

I have to admit it's thanks to you guys I didn't die. Went to land on the View and knew it was heavy, knew it would be hard, didn't have the actual practice to do it perfectly yet. Luckily all I did was lose all my shields and take 1% hull damage. I'm pretty sure I would have gone splat if not for all your wonderful stories here. :)

Out of curiosity regards the view...
Did you glide in like normal or do the "safe to disengage"?

I only noticed the latter on the weekend with my alt doing passenger missions. Expected a space beacon but arrived a few km above the surface of a planet..... Didn't know it was a thing. Imagine the shock...... Now I'm thinking on a 3g world that shock could be disaster.

I ignored it and glided "old school". Somehow my analog mini stick "stuck" at a very convenient 2m/s so all I had to do was shuffle back and forth to get a blue spot. Easy :) (and total fluke. First time a deadzone adjustment ever worked in my favour ; ))

Actually glided in and the safe notice popped up and I hit it by instinct and that's when I lost my shields now that i think of it...

I had never seen that before on approaching a planet, is this something new? I wasn't sure what to do, disengaged and was alarmed to see how close I was. I think I would have preferred the normal glide!

Dropped out of Witchspace at WP2 with my unarmed Phantom and have been murdered within 5 seconds by a ganker wing of 4. I simply forgot to switch to Solo / Mobius (FleetComm request didn't go through still, after the 3rd try). Lost all my discovieres - my bad for beeing in the wrong mode of course.

Was not in PG yet at lauch - started in open - got killed twice by a ganker. Yesterday I reached Omega Sector, still in open, got ganked when I came out of jump (with my ASP). I relogged at the asteroid base and saw that I could join PG. I made a note and took screenshots of the chat with the last ganker and promised him that I will haunt him down when I am back in the bubble at the end of DW2 and make the rest of his pathetic virtual lif in space to a hell.
