Oculus : how do I see my HOTAS or KB ?

I have paid for VA, but that can't type comms messages can it ?

Of course it can if you merge a dictating profile with your ED one. Although, why bother with text when you can use voice comms? But if you absolutely have to use text (can't imagine why) you could add a 200 word vocabulary to your ED profile and that should get you through most conversations.

I see your points guys, but I have 20 functions mapped to my joystick(not including the joystick itself) and about 11 to my throttle(again not including throttle) .

What I am trying to say is that I am old and smell of wee :D so I do need to look at my HOTAS sometimes, to see where the buttons are(also I have ID stickers on them :)

I think you have to understand better the Controll screen. Same buttons and Axis can be used multiple times. exaple I use stick axis for flight and galaxy map, but I have a stick that has 8 buttons and I use only 4 of them plus thumb8way stick.
Also the buttons for deploying weapons and secondary weapon are used to move left and right on the system/destination window.
My suggestion, don't follow other people mapping, do yours.:p

One thing I've noticed is since using the rift, I need fewer buttons because just looking to the left or right provokes a menu to pop up which contains all the commands, and frees up (for me) one of my hats. Because those menus are so accessible (along with targets which you can acquire just by looking at) I haven't bothered to map any specifc keys or buttons. You just don't need them! So far, anyway.

I'm super impressed by the rift and elite. Flying round space in 3d and looking round the cockpit truly is a whole new level of immersion, and it feels like the game was built with OR in mind and then adapted to work with monitors for those who don't have the 'proper tech', yet.

Yep, ED, OR & VA = pretty amazing gaming experience.

I've just been doing slow flybys of the capital ship at the distress signal and the feeling of scale is incredible. My most amazing all time gaming experience of all time, mate. :D

If you need to look at your peripherals to remember your bindings you may want to reconsider how you do your layout.

Not as a judgement of how you play, but of practicality. It's always been my experience that if the controls don't feel intuitive enough that you can memorize them in a few hours and no longer need to visually confirm the position of your hand or the location of the key/button you're looking for, that there is a better and more natural layout for you.

Exactly - this doesn't only apply to control schemes - I mean come on - how hard is it to know where things are on your own desktop?

I am very happy for you, now back on topic , ok guys I see what you're saying but I have no extra buttons on my X52pro as all are assigned, and i DO NEED to use the keyboard, I guess I am fooooked ?

TrackIR suddenly looks very inviting !

Also use an X52 pro; I used the MadCatz s/w to assign cycle weapons on the dial slides on the throttle, and on the second dial set up cycle subsystems.

Swap the up/down buttons on the flight stick base with the slider on the throttle, and you then have 6 toggles free for things like Jump + SC, cargo hatch, landing gear etc.

I've also set up the modes once, though they got nuked/replaced.

I don't need to use any keys on the keyboard now - strongly recommend going down this route :)

I suppose you could assign individual key presses to the spoken letters/numbers/punctuation and simply use a command like "Text Comms" and speak each letter/number/punctuation to be typed as text and send with a "Send" command.
Seems like a long winded way to chat but maybe useful in other ways too.

I will see what OR will come out with and as you said, if OR is that good then we might have to live with it :(

If you know Military words for spelling "ALPHA"BRAVO"CHARLIE"

You can add this MilitaryAlphabet to your profile.

I tried single letters but giving longer word help VA to get the command better. always if you have VA.

Plus add also commands for SPACE,BACKSPACE and separation sign "-" that are not in the profile.:D

I might be missing something ( I don't have VA) but surely you can use comms and VA to say whole words instead of the very tedious method of spelling a word letter by letter, sort of defeats the object of VA in the first place?

Yeah you can do that or you could just program VA to open a channel when you say 'open a channel' and actually talk to people. .

The spelling is and option, the search bar in the Galaxy map I use it only 0,001% of the entire session also because the search engine is really useless and lame, Plus now using the Mouse has throttle I don't have the keyboard near me. ;)

PS: I don't play on a desk, but sitting on a couch:D

no, at least not version 1 :(

Yeah, but the Samsung VR kit uses the S4s camera to achieve that- of course it's not an option as it lacks positional tracking, but it will certainly be implemented at some point - not that I would need or use it.

It's a nice option for people using VR in unfamiliar locations, but imho it's unnecessary.

Playing on a couch and not having a keyboard is a different issue, but in case someone plays on his own desk and has trouble doing anything he'd need to do he could do without wearing the rift, I'd consult a neurologist as his proprioception is apparently dysfunctional.
