Crew Are Only Paid When Active

Title says it all. Inactive crew shouldn't be paid, and that's not unreasonable. The NPC Crew option is useless beyond a single hire, so why would a secondary, inactive member get a paycheck? Sure, maybe if you've trained a crew from Harmless to Elite so they don't exact so much a percentage kinda makes sense. But those inactive crewmembers still take a cut they don't deserve. We pay for services but if they aren't rendered, what are we paying for?

They get paid because they are still under your command. If you dont want to pay them dismiss them. Its not like its that hard to earn money these days anyways.

That's a fair response. But it feels to me as if they're being paid a retainer. We're talking SLF pilots, so they shouldn't get a cut of trade or exploration revenue. That's like saying Bill Gates' personal driver gets a percentage of everything he makes. At least minimize the type of percentage they gain. Otherwise, FDev coded something that no one uses and was a complete waste of time and money for them.

I think it's fair they get paid whether you're using them or not. You're their employer and they need to eat, whether you have work for them or not. The rate they get paid could certainly use some discussion and the double penalty of them deducting your contribution to combat CGs even when they didn't contribute at all is definitely something that needs to change.

It would be really cool if we could assign the NPC pilot to one of our ships to act as a support vessel, for example as an escort. Them i'll be glad to pay them what they ask....

I have three too, two Deadly and one Harmless, all on permanent contracts. I don't care much about the money (the 20 month veteran of them earned over 350m cr over time), but losing one really hits hard, because of all the time invested. I would happily invest into an escape pod made of Palladium for them if necessary, but it won't happen. Sandro discussed the issue last year and said they will look for a solution where there still is risk, but death is not inevitable "later" and you know what that means :D

O7,
[noob]

I use them to help nerf my profits for verisimilitude but then I see they have well over a couple hundred million of their own and I just can't fathom why they don't have their own thing by now.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but unfortunately one I can't find an answer to, what are the benefits of hiring crew.
- in my instance I want to mine can they do anything useful like control collectors and such like.

How about we get to put our crew on PAID VACATION or PAID SHORE LEAVE.
They get 10k credits to spend Waterskiing/Surfing/Fishing on the Terraformed Water World of their choice, we cannot put them on active duty nor recall them from that weeklong absense.
And during that time, they do not get paid - or killed.

Now you have a risk-reward type thing going on; if something important comes up where you need them during that vacation, you cannot use that crewmember - but if you plan correctly, you don't get to lose a big cut on someone who sits in the cafeteria all day doing nothing.

Didn't want to tell crap, hence was checking first...

3.426.344.023 CR

That's what I paid so far for my crew.
I don't regret a single credit.

Nobody is forced to invest time and credits (meaningless meanwhile anyway) into crew buddies.
On levels Dangerous, Deadly and Elite they are extraordinary strong in some situations. This buff cannot come cheap.

Bottom line. Nope.

You can always hire mostly-harmless crew members and then level them up through bounty hunting. they take 10% less of a cut than crew hired that are already dangerous

There are no stupid questions.
No you can't use them for limpets or anything. Just a pilot sitting in an independent small fighter attacking for you whatever it needs.
Just think of an additional weapon firing on your target from a complete different angle and distance.

I use mine predominantly in combat zones where they really shine when you are cleaning one in solo.

You can't hire a Dangerous SLF pilot. Max is Expert level. Mine take together 25% and I consider it peanuts. Couldn't care less.

Looks like AOC got her Green Deal passed! Paychecks for everyone :D

Just be glad you're not stuck piloting a train instead of a dirty spaceship, though good luck finding a farting cow to haul if you're looking to reenact the "Safe" episode of Firefly.

Lost in translation...
Honestly, I didn't understand a single word. WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

The problem I see is that they are useless out of combat. They don't drive the second SRV or whatever.
In this game money is easy to come by, I would prefer them to be more useful and possibly a way to use all three at the same time (faster scanning, improved turret fire, internal damage control...).
