Day 64 of a broken background sim

Main issue for understanding is to know inputs versus expected outcome. [...] We don't know the different outcome that we have if they are a bug or working as intended (tm).
FD policy to keep us in the dark from the start is like shooting them in their own foot when they are a lot of bugs...

We need to understand what the metrics are, what gives what amount of that metric, in terms of mission types, scenario wins and straightforward bond transactions (with minimum and maximum effect).

Agreed.
If they still held to their original position of "BGS is for Background, you are not supposed to play it so we will keep it black box", then they would behaving consistently.
However, that position is no longer valid. They have accepted that playing the BGS is a valid form of game play, and have introduced things to support it.

So tell us how you expect it to work, and we can report things that are broken, and suggest improvements.

Yes, yes and yes! FDev fix the bugs that are apparent. But please, please, just tell us the rules of the game. What sinister dungeon master, when asked what the rules are, would reply "Figure it out yourself as you play. And BTW some of the rules are also broken and don't work as intended right now."

We need fixes yes, but we need BGS transparency, either in game, or in the form of an official guide. As others note above, the two go together.

At this pace we'll never get an official useless response, you guys aren't even trying and I am inclined to believe the BGS isn't actually that broken. If this would be about a serious issue, like fixing an exploit that hardly affects anyone, we would've reached the required 60 pages in minutes. I'd say that less than 2.8% of the BGS are seriously broken.

So you're saying it's time to break out the memes?

I'll say it: maintenance mode. Certain folks don't want to hear it as it's like the devil talking to them. But there's only one answer why there's little attention given to this game by the dev's. And it's not that they are "busy working on new, great, exciting, fantastic Elite game stuff" that they don't bother replying to the forums. They've pulled all their talented (?) folks away already, and the silence has become pretty normal here same as other titles that have peaked and gone into... maintenance mode.

Now, for those cowboys/gals that are quick on the draw here and want to defend this silent behavior, please answer this: is this what you expect from a company that's trying to get your business? Silence? Really?

What do the "maintenance mode" believers think the next DLC is going to be?

Oboy a completely unprovable post made of foil! I like that it's shiny side out to reflect away any dissent. If you didn't have literally years of posts exactly like this you might even be given some credence. As it is, this is the only credence I can give you:

True. The only thing we can do is pointing out which parts work or under which circumstances they work (assuming everything else isn't working). Problem is, we can't do that either because people will hit you with the White Knight hammer as soon as you even mention the absence of bugs in certain cirumstances.

Yeah, but it takes quite a large suspension of disbelief to even assume the absence of BGS bugs now.

I havent played in a couple of months. I burned myself out leading up to 3.3. Then 3.3 content wasnt really enough to keep me interested at the moment. I'll be back, but when that is. We will see. Glad to see the usual FDEV shenanigans are still going strong.

I don't find it surprising, the BGS is not very popular on the grand scheme of things.

I like doing the bgs despite the fact that FD dropped a pmf into the middle of my little empire.
I still own 2 of the 3 large orbital stations in that small area. Sealing them off from expanding into them.
OH and BTW. I'm on pc they were on xbox. So much for the open only crowd. :)

TBH, the BGS crowd have been pretty forgiving of the plethora of bugs in the BGS. If PvP had been a tenth as buggy as the BGS, there would be 300 threads about it already.

I dunno, I only saw a couple of whiny threads about the recent mass-lock bug.

And the 4 people who don't like the FSS didn't manage to bait a response with their hundred-or-so pages either. It's almost as if baiting devs with derogatory memes and serial-whining doesn't work...

I'd say the BGS affects everyone, even if you don't 'play' it. The BGS is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together.

Stellar forge binds the galaxy together. BGS is partly RNG overlay intended to paint galaxy alive. Unlike stellar forge, which is constrained by physical properties, BGS doesn’t have to be consistent with other parts of itself. Doesn’t have to be precise. Merely there to generate localised “events” (states) players may react to. (provoking outbreak, so that pharma isolators may be pharmed.) There is little use beyond that.

Not sure if you missed the quote.
