Anthem

Had a chance this evening to play it... apart from it using 16 of the 32 cores at 80%, and maxing out the GPU for whatever reason unknown, thus having an amazing space heater. The game is fairly nice - visually. Not exactly my feel for a TPS/FPS type of game however.

How does the finished game fare compared to the demo a few weeks ago? Lots of frame drops still?
I liked it! Won't buy it now but certainly down the line. :)

It runs really smooth (Ryzen 1600X+Vega56 on Ultra). Sometimes when I start the game, it stutters for a few seconds, but before I get to the Javelin and start a mission it's fine.

It still has some issues. For example in one mission my "Interact" key stopped working (luckily I had teammates to activate stuff) and the sound stopped working once (had to restart the game). Hopefully the day one patch resolves these small things. Other than that, I'm having a blast. Flying and shooting feels really great (not like in demo) and now that I know they aren't going to pull out MTX shananigans, I can really enjoy the game, almost unconditionally.

If you're into coop loot'n'shooters, do pick it up when you feel like it.

I reckon I won't get bored of this for at least a couple of weeks.

I got bored of Warframe (MR26) and it has 10x times more content/frames than Anthem. I got bored in 2 hours of Anthem's demo.
Also it seems like in the next patch, screen shake and other stuff will have toggles/sliders.

I must admit that after playing Anthem going back in Warframe felt like 2019 vs 2009, visually speaking.

It seems like it might be a success financially and it got a lot of exposure on twitch.
I have hope for this project, in a few years it might be a good game.

I think that is the part of the point.
Warframe sucked noodles when it came out and then gradually improved. Anthem is already kind of awesome and if they can keep the content coming for the end-game and re-playing it has a bright future ahead.

I started playing in June 2013 and stopped about a year later.

So you remember that when Warframe first came out it was just a simulator of running through blurry corridors without textures. (and without content other than enemies):D
Anthem will do fine if they are allowed to support the game for at least a couple of years, they are more than capable of keeping the fun ball rolling.

And yes, btw. I agree Warframe is a horrible grind once you've passed the friendly starting bit. :)
Anthem, on the other hand, seems quite alright in that regard. The missions are well-narrated and keep you going (well, me, anyway), crafting is not grind-heavy at all. In fact, playing on hard difficulty, I have enough resources just from dismantling the tonnes of gear and guns I loot. I have yet to venture to Free play in need of "grinding some mats".
We'll see how it goes. I love it, so far.

(oh and that last bit - that was meant as a joke, of course. A slight poke at Warframe where you can literally buy everything, while people are bashing Anthem on MTXs for having six cosmetic items in the store. :D)

Well, Warframe is free, they have to make money somehow.
You can also make ingame currency (Platinum) by selling stuff you can farm (Prime parts) so you can literally get everything without spending money.
I spent a few thousands platinum in Warframe but not for gear since it's fairly easy to get, but for cosmetics.

The only thing you can't buy (from the game store) is Rivens / the perfect Riven roll.
In Anthem it might be the same on the endgame content with the perfect roll of stats/secondaries on crafted gear.

Most of Warframe content came in time, Plains, Fortuna, many warframes.
For starters Anthem is fine, if they follow up with more content, more javelins, it will be a win.
They shouldn't wait like 6 months or 1 year for that tho, getting out 1-2 javelins every 2-3 months should be the case.

@Brett C, i think the game is pretty well optimized, i didn't see a game using so well my CPU/GPU in a while.

Looter shooters can be real fun at times and is the perfect way to kill off a slow Sunday. :)
I recently got into The Division again. I'm not overly enjoyed with coop but Dark Zone is too tough to solo.

What I didn't like about Anthem is how the game practically forces you to play coop. Even solo expeditions are with other players...

But yeah, I'll get it on sale. :)

I would love a singleplayer campaign, too, of course. But believe me as this comes from a VERY singleplayer and story oriented guy, Anthem is very unobtrusive in its "forced coop" way.
The Free Roam is exactly what it says on the tin - Free roam. It's just that there are three other people somewhere around the map, also doing their thing. And the map is big, it's not like you are stepping on one another's toes. The Free Roam works similar to Destiny and to certain extent, Division, too. You're simply running around, gathering mats, finding secrets and loot, solving puzzles, and random events happen and and believe me, sometimes you're actually glad another lancer was passing by and decided to help. :D

Missions of all types are always coop But I only have good experiences, so far. Naturally that may change on 22nd after the army of trolls marches in. :D
On the other hand - the ignore function is there and if you use it, unlike in Elite, you're never gonna hear or see that person ever again and a troll can't really screw you over in any way. The worst possible outcome is that you end up doing the mission in three instead of four people and earn more XP. :)

If you're social kind and and up in a clan there is a good chance you get mods and stuff thrown at you, which can seriously lessen the grind in Warframe. But is not vanilla and everyones cuppa, I know.

I hear they kept the loot levels / amounts from the demo? That is nice. Looked like you can make some progress early.

But the grind is there in these games, ye. Having played Warframe and ED I'm not really keen on another one round of grinding really.

Nice to see EA doesn't want to bleed everyone dry from the get go, keep us updated guys, I was sadly kidnapped by the allure of the coming FFXIV update so I'm back being the warrior of light.. sorry Anthem :D But I might pick it up because the flying around at least seemed like a lot of fun.

As for the Warframe stuff, the only problem with comparing mtxs between these two is.. that for the price of Anthem (the collector's edition) with two 75% off platinum daily rewards I could buy around 9k plat. With that, you would be set for life in warframe. So let's not go there ;)

Im jetlagging right now because I had nice weekend with the EA ceo on his personal yacht in the carribean blowing coke and hookers. Got to put that sweet origin premier money to good use.

Pff, what is he poor or something. CEO of a properly devilishly greedy publishing company should have a pool big enough to sail his yacht on.
