Elite Achievement during DW2

I'm wondering how many commanders out there have achieved Elite Explorer status during (not before) the DW2 campaign thus far?

As for me, I started at Pallaeni a newly minted Pioneer and became Elite on 3305-02-12 06:50 UTC at Polo Harbour, and quite frankly this is a proud moment for me!

But as great of an achievement as this is for me, that is not the only reason why I'm on this voyage. I'm an Explorer. An elite Explorer. Beagle Point is still weeks away. There's over half the galaxy in between.

I will see it all.

I will return with tales to tell.

And when one day the black finally claims me forever, I will remain unconquered, my journey a story to inspire the next generation to face and defeat that which takes me.

See you in the black. o7

I made Elite back on DW1, having started a fair way into the rank and not achieving it until returning to the Bubble (despite a stop at Colonia on the way back). I've more than doubled my money so far on DW2.

I started an Alt-account just recently, and have done nothing but some trading and a few missions, and he already ranked up in Exploration just for returning some missing Black Boxes.

Elite Exploration rank, I'm sorry to say, is not really an achievement anymore.

But congrats on achieving yours, Cmdr, and may you fly safe and see the many wonders this galaxy has to offer! It really is a fantastic aspect of the game!

Congrats! I'm sure quite a few commanders on this trip will be hitting that milestone.

It's a little late for me though. ;) :D

Yeah kinda agree, the only two Elites that still really require a lot of effort to get are Combat and CQC. Although I have the feeling that Combat willl get nerfed in the next series of updates.

Yeah, they never increased the requirements to match up to the increased payouts, so nowadays I'd have hit Elite on my first big excursion before making it to Colonia, never mind on my way back from Sag A* like it took me.

I graduated to Elite at Polo Harbour too. Long way since 3300. Reminds me, I need to update this sig.

Excursions are no longer required. I made Elite by mapping a few ELWs in the bubble.

Yeah, since Chapter Four, Elite in exploration and trade comes quick. Something like 8-10 hours? Starting from scratch, that is.
Some numbers to put to how quick Elite in exploration is now. You get the rank at about 300-320 million Cr in scan profits, provided you didn't do any missions or any other activity that raises your rank. (Which you almost certainly did - if nothing else, then by SRV driving far from the bubble.) If you were to adjust that to how much it took to get Elite before, it would have been 600 million Cr. Now, doing the same adjustment to today's payouts means that if it weren't made easier throughout the updates, Elite should be at 2 billion Cr. (Rounded down a few hundred million, for the sake of being easier to remember.)

Keep going, and you'll get there eventually!

Originally, when we needed 600M Cr (ish) to get elite some payouts were (first discovery, approx):
ELW = 90k
WW terra = up to 96k
HMC terra = up to 65k

Now ELW is 35 times more valuable
WW terra 33
HMC terra 31

So even taking the lowest rounded down we have to multiply 600M by 30 to keep the original difficulty, time & grind factor of Elite Explorer achievement : 18B CR to get to Elite :)
As you said, currently it takes 320M to become Elite. That makes it nearly 60 times easier than the early days.

The above was all in good jest, tongue in cheek and factually correct...

p.s. I got mine before DW1 doing 3 deep space missions, one involving farming Neutron stars.

I don't remember for sure if the original prices for ELWs were 90k, as I don't have the figures from launch, but back at the time, the Elite rank requirement was around 155 million. This was later doubled when payouts were increased seriously in 2.3, but 600 million Cr was never needed to get to Elite. (Unless you wanted to do it via passenger missions only, I guess.)

The best kind :D

Sept 2015 and before, and yes I vaguely remember 162M Cr(near your 155) !!! So 4 times less hence now it is only 15 times easier to get to Elite Explorer :)

Cool, thanks for digging that up! I'll need to look at ranks again too, looks like I might need to revise my estimate then.

Hm. According to the old Lave wiki and this reddit post, it would have been around 45k Cr for a first discovery, in 2015. March. I think your numbers were after the first buff, but got to dig some more then.

Update: yep, the 1.2.03 update (Wings!) was the one that buffed them, on 2015. March 12.

I did, on my way to waypoint 1.

Due to the new payouts, my CMDR has made more from exploration in the last 10k light years than the previous 500k.

Let's not forget that getting the LYR bonus is still possible. To quote Allitnil, about an expedition to find at least 10 ELWs in every region:

Found 147 new ELWs and mapped a further 151 of my previous finds. With the LY-R bonus, it netted over 16.5 billion credits and my highest paying system is now 86.8 mil (!). Took me just a month to earn 50% of the exploration credits I had made over the previous 4 years. Madness.
Granted, that's a lot of playtime.

Congratulations sleoj and all others who got it during the exploration! I got my Elite Explorer Rank during some short range explorations around WP5 last weekend.
Maybe it's not much, because a lot of people have it already, but many things in life are celebrated even though they've been reached by billions before.

I came fairly close to Elite at Polo Harbour, hopefully will make it by the next station. :)

Im at Poineer 66% and it creeping up slowly.

I think my biggest issue was i had my Phantom jumping at 66ly a go and when i was travelling to the POI's i wasn't getting many jumps, also the jumps were all discovered so i was not getting any firsts.

I have changed that now after yet another change of ship (started with an AspX at 68ly jump, then to the Phantom at 66ly jump and now in a Krait Mk 2 with 52ly jump (wanted the Mk 2 to get fighters)), and reducing my jump range to hit more systems also detouring 1000ly up, down, left or right then going to the POI.

fingers crossed i will hit Elite at WP7 when i hand my data in.
